This tweet
and this one
from Ubisoft look like cave paintings as the publisher/developer goes into tease
mode to get our juices flowing for some unannounced project. They also offer
this tweet
with an animated version of one of these images and a
live stream that as of
now is like watching cave paint dry. They will surely get around to telling us
more in due time, but Kotaku will have none of that, saying this is all to tease
a game called Far Cry Primal that's set in the Ice Age, saying they've
learned this "sources familiar with goings-on at Ubisoft." By way of
NeoGAF they say the title has been confirmed by a leak from IGN Turkey.
Sony announces Dead Star,
reports IGN, saying this is an arcade-style shooter coming early next year
to Windows and PlayStation 4 from Armature Studio. They have some screenshots,
and say they will have a hands-on preview later this week. Here's what they have
to say about the game in the meantime: Dead Star feels a lot like a
twin-stick shooter, but it's larger in scale and strategically deeper than the
genre usually shows. The 10v10 multiplayer matches (5v5 is also available) take
place on procedurally generated maps, meaning their shape, buildings, and
hazards will be different each time you play.
The Crew Website has details on the PC closed beta for The Crew: Wild
Hunt, saying this will kick off on October 15th, and they are inviting
everyone who owns the PC edition of The Crew, players who've tried the PC Trial
version, and players who were part of the previous beta tests. In semi-related
news,
UbiBlog has word that Ubisoft has formally acquired Ivory Tower, the studio
that led development of the game. Word is: "The team in Lyon continues to focus
on supporting The Crew, and is excited to deliver even more fun and wild rides
to the community with the release of The Crew Wild Run on November 17th." Here's
more about the closed beta from
a separate announcement: Today, Ubisoft® announced a Windows PC closed
beta for The Crew® Wild Run, the expansion to the action-driving MMO The Crew®,
will start on October 15 and last through October 19.
The closed beta will allow players to participate in “The Summit”, an unofficial
gathering of thousands of drivers and mechanics from around the world, taking
place in iconic locations all around the USA. It’s an event where car culture is
celebrated across a multi-dimensional competition with the widest variety of
vehicles, from heavily tuned cars to agile bikes or more exotic concepts. The
Summit is the largest challenge in a driving game to date, where players will
showcase their talents across a wide range of skillsets and terrains.
During the closed beta players will also have the opportunity to complete PvE
and PvP missions to raise their ranking and unlock new features to customize
their vehicles. FreeDrive activities will also be playable, as well as speed and
skill challenges, stunt competitions with brand new trials created exclusively
to fit new vehicles specificities.
Players will be able to test their skills with dragsters, designed to reach
incredible top speeds, drift cars that demonstrate impressive control,
unstoppable monster trucks that can perform dangerous backflips and insane
jumps, or a range of agile motorcycles from prestigious brands geared to take on
the fastest cars on and off-road.
The beta will also showcase the graphical update that the expansion brings,
creating stunning environments enhanced by new lighting effects and redesigned
areas adapted for all types of vehicles.
The Crew Wild Run expansion will be available for download starting November 17,
as well as in stores in a bundle with the base game called The Crew Wild Run
Edition. Owners of The Crew will also have access to the graphic overhaul in a
free update.

This trailer is a
new "Empire Soldier Action Reel" from Warhammer: End Times Vermintide,
showing another of the playable heroes from the upcoming Warhammer action game.
Here's word: "Independent developer Fatshark today released the third of five
Action Reels, showcasing gameplay from each of the five heroes playable in
Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. The latest Action Reel is the Empire Soldier.
Markus Kruber is a deadly but war weary Empire Soldier. After having recently
lost his regiment to horrifying death-magic, Kruber decided he’d had enough of
army life and the incompetent leadership of nobles. With a newfound desire to
return home to his native Ubersreik, Kruber found employment in the service of
Victor Saltzpyre, a Witch Hunter of the Order. His new job was to assist the
Witch Hunter in the escort of a Bright Wizard prisoner, an assignment which fit
perfectly into Kruber’s plans, since their destination was his hometown." Continue here to read the full story.
Valve and partners announce they have found a way to marry the convenience of
buying games and hardware online through Steam with the convenience of going to the store: GameStop,
GAME UK, EB Games, and Valve today announced dedicated Steam Sections launching
this fall in GameStop (USA), GAME UK, and EB Games (Canada) stores. The section
will feature the Steam Hardware devices launching November 10 (Steam Controller,
Steam Link, and Steam Machines) as well as a variety of Steam prepaid cards.
Through the holiday season, GameStop, GAME UK, and EB Games will be the
exclusive non-digital retailer for the Steam Hardware products in their
respective territories. Steam prepaid cards launched in stores three years ago,
and sales performance for those offerings has been increasing each year.
"GameStop, GAME UK, and EB Games are leading retail destinations for core gamers
and early adopters," said Gabe Newell of Valve. "Creating a 'store within a
store' across North America and the UK is a significant win for getting the
first generation of Steam Hardware products into gamers' hands."

An update to the
Chairman's Response to The Escapist on the Roberts Space Industries website
has the latest on Cloud Imperium Games' reaction to
the recent Escapist article
alleging troubles at the developer of Star Citizen, the upcoming
crowd-funded space game. The post has been modified to demand a retraction of the
assertions in the article, threatening legal action if this doesn't happen by
the end of today. They say the site has "violated the most basic rules and
ethics in journalism by failing to properly vet [their] sources and providing
the affected party with an opportunity to refute these ridiculous, highly
slanderous, and easily disproven allegations," and also state this was not a
legitimate piece of journalism, but rather a conspiracy between the author and
"third parties" (who go unnamed, though we have a guess). They reproduce a lengthy letter they sent to the
Escapist, and
here is how this concludes: If we have not received within a reasonable
time your written confirmation (email being sufficient) that you agree to
cooperate and comply with the above demands we will firstly publish this letter
to our website. Based on the generous standards set by you, we believe that 24
hours should be sufficient to hear from you. Furthermore, if we have not
received the aforementioned confirmation from you or your magazine and/or parent
company by EOD Monday, we will turn this matter over to our litigators to
prepare legal action in the US and the UK against the individuals and entities
involved as listed herein.

GfK Chart-Track has their new charts showing the bestselling games in the U.K.
for the week ending October 3rd. Things are pretty quiet on the
PC top 30, where The Sims 4 remains number one, though Diablo III:
Reaper of Souls makes a resurgence to number five. On the
all platforms chart FIFA 16 retains a toehold on the top spot, but
LEGO Dimensions makes a strong debut at number two. Here's the write-up:
FIFA 16 (-74%) remains unchallenged to claim a second All Formats No1
crown this week.
A Tuesday launch for ‘Lego Dimensions’ leads Warner’s new Toys to Life title to
a debut at No2. Despite being the third Interactive Toys launch of 2015 and the
second in two weeks, ‘Lego Dimensions’ debut sees it comfortably surpass week 1
sales of both ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ & ‘Skylanders Superchargers’. In the sector
as a whole it’s the third best launch week, behind both ‘Skylanders Giants’ and
Skylanders Swap Force’. Take 2 also enjoy a strong debut with another Tuesday
release ‘NBA 2K16’ entering the chart this week. Week 1 sales for the franchise
are up by more than 53% over last year’s entry, which makes this week’s No3 the
best week 1 seller in the series to date.
With two new arrivals in the Top 3, ‘Destiny: The Taken King’ (-20%) and ‘Forza
Motorsport 6’ (-32%) are both down two places to No4 and No5. Nintendo’s 3DS
exclusive ‘Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer’ also makes its mark at No6. The
latest entry in the series sees the addition of collectible amiibo cards which
unlock in game content. Outside of the Top 10, Activision’s ‘Tony Hawk Pro
Skater 5’ makes a return to the chart at No12. The latest addition to the series
is developed by Robomodo who took on ‘Tony Hawk Shred’ back in 2010.
So the Major League Baseball regular season concluded yesterday. I'm still
wrapping my mind around the fact that the Mets made the postseason, but my shock
is probably not hard to understand. I also did decently on my NFL pool picks,
and the Giants won, so it was a pretty excellent sports Sunday here in the
BlueTower. At least in the spectating sense.
