"Disc-based games will be around forever,"
GameStop CEO
Paul Raines tells Fortune. "The market has seen physical music sales down
50% from its peak and physical movie sales down 60% from its peak, but even in a
doomsday scenario, disc-based games will be around for a long time. I see a
complimentary business where we sell discs plus download like the current
console mode. Virtual reality games will also likely follow this model."

Larian Studios announces the
Kickstarter for Divinity: Original Sin 2 has drawn to a successful
conclusion, as the RPG sequel attracted over $2 million in crowd sourced
funding. Here's word on how the campaign played out, and all the goals this
funding level triggered, including the change to help design a character thanks
to GOG.com: Thanks to the support of backers around the world, the
Divinity: Original Sin II Kickstarter campaign has been a resounding success,
quadrupling its initial funding goal and reaching over $2 million to unlock the
final stretch goal; Game Master mode.
Larian Studios has been been humbled and awed by the enthusiasm of its backers
who have given Divinity: Original Sin II the ability to reach far beyond its
original scope.
Some of the highlights the community made possible include:
- Chris Avellone joins as a writer after the
community connects him and Larian Studios.
- Strategist Mode, to put the tactical abilities of
even the most seasoned veterans to the test.
- The Undead as a playable race. Why should the
living have all the fun?
- The Hall of Echoes, a new playable area in the
land of the dead.
- Love & Hate relationships, for even deeper
roleplaying experiences.
- Racial abilities, new skill trees, and dedicated
mod support.
With the latest addition of Game Master mode, you’ll be able to craft your
own dungeons and then control them as your friends play, placing enemies on the
fly, manipulating the environment, and doing everything you can to utterly
annihilate them…or, we suppose you could give them a "fun" experience.
Even with the campaign over, don't forget that GOG.com has invited everyone to
have a say in creating a character for Divinity: Original Sin II. With their
$10,000 pledge GOG.com gets to design a character, but they have
welcomed everyone in the community to participate.

The
Roberts Space Industries website is now selling another virtual ship for Star
Citizen with an eye-popping price tag. The new ship for Cloud Imperium's
upcoming space combat game is the Endeavor-class
research vessel, described as "a fully modular space platform designed to be
adapted for a variety of scientific and medical tasks." The outlay for this is
$900.00 USD, which is 15 times the price of the typical AAA game, and more than
enough to buy a gaming PC. Here's more on the Endeavor: "Initially developed as
a floating laboratory, the MISC Endeavor can be outfitted for everything from
spatial telescopy to use as mobile hospital."
Jotun is now available for Windows, Linux, and OS X
on Steam,
and this indie action/adventure carries a 10% discount for the first week of

was released last week, showing off the game's hand-drawn art style, and here's
word on the game, which is steeped in Norse mythology: Jotun is a
hand-drawn action-exploration game set in Norse mythology. In Jotun, you play
Thora, a Viking warrior who died an inglorious death and must prove herself to
the Gods to enter Valhalla. In Jotun, you explore vast regions of Norse
Purgatory to find runes that unleash the jotun, giant Norse elementals. Fight
them using only your two-handed axe, your skills and the blessings of the
Gods! Continue here to read the full story.
UbiBlog now offers a new
London Stories trailer
for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the upcoming installment in the stealthy
action/adventure series. Here's word on the gameplay and interview footage this
includes: While the Templar Order has been amassing power in London, the
Assassins have been hiding in the shadows, avoiding straying too far into
Templar territory. But not any longer. Twin Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye have
disobeyed the Council and made their way to London with the sole purpose of
stealing the city back from the new Templar Grand Master Crawford Starrick and
his lieutenants. They will have to take London back piece by piece and industry
by industry as they fight to weaken Starrick’s control. While Jacob Frye has
landed on a more direct path, choosing to strike at the heart of the Order with
his Rooks, Evie is on the hunt for a mysterious Piece of Eden that she hopes to
keep out of Templar hands. I spoke with Senior Producer Jeff Skalski about the
twins’ journey, Starrick and his order, and some of the other characters you’ll
meet in London. Continue here to read the full story.
I mentioned I've recently gotten to play some Heroes of the Storm in a five-man
premade team, which has been a lot of fun. Our fearless leader SquidAlley just
posted a funny video
of him committing a little Murky-on-Murky violence, and Murky antics are always
fun. There's also a bonus of a funny Void Prison moment at the end of the game,
the second match in a row where the final VP had comedy value. As Murky would
say, mrmm rmmrm!
