Archived News:
Star Wars: Battlefront will feature a Speeder racing mode,
Veni Vidi Vici reports seeing in a new article in PlayStation Magazine UK,
also noting a mention of "crash courses" for X-Wing fighters.
Here's part of what they have to say: As stated in the title's September
2015 issue, the speeder bike races are part of Star Wars: Battlefront's trials
modes, which allow players to familiarise themselves with the game's mechanics
before jumping into the main co-op and multiplayer offerings.
Players will be able to participate in these races on their own, with
competition presumably coming from AI bots. It will also be possible for two
players to race each other at the same time, via online and local splitscreen
co-op.
Mojang announces that Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1 is due on
October 13th, and the debut chapter of the adventure game will be titled "The
Order of The Stone." They point the way to the
Telltale Community for more: In Minecraft: Story Mode, playing as
either a male or female hero named ‘Jesse,’ you’ll embark on a perilous
adventure across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond. You
and your friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone: Warrior, Redstone
Engineer, Griefer, and Architect; slayers of the Ender Dragon. While at EnderCon
in hopes of meeting Gabriel the Warrior, Jesse’s friends discover that something
is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and you must set out on a
quest to find The Order of the Stone if you are to save your world from
oblivion.
We’ve been working closely with the people at Mojang to ensure that Minecraft:
Story Mode absolutely feels like a part of the world that Minecraft players
already know and love, with a cinematic story and trademark Telltale
choice-based gameplay. We know how important customization is to the creative
minds who play Minecraft, so we’ve paid special attention to implementing that
in Minecraft: Story Mode too. This is the first Telltale game where YOU get to
choose the appearance of the player character. Not only do you get to play as
either a male or female version of Jesse, you’ll also be able to select from 3
different looks for each.
Battle.net announces
Blizzard has fired off the ban-laser for a new round of account suspensions and
bans for StarCraft II players over Terms of Service violations. Here's word
on the latest round of discipline for their real-time strategy sequel: We
recently issued a new round of account suspensions and bans to StarCraft II
players who were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use for cheating and/or
using hack programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair
competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can
lead to stability and performance issues with the service.
As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for
legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we'll be continuing to keep
watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.
Bethesda.net now offers a
Perception trailer
from Fallout 4, showing off the second element in the venerable SPECIAL system
in the RPG series. They also have
an article on player freedom in the game's open world, offering a
new trailer on
the topic as well as a
video on customization, crafting & modding, though most of this is footage
was shot live back at E3. Here's their accompanying write-up on that last topic:
From building in-game settlements via the Workshop system to creating new
weapons with Bethesda Game Studios’ most advanced crafting system yet, to
designing mods on both PC and console, Fallout 4 is all about customization.
Yes, almost all of this is optional – but now there’s even more reason to
explore the expansive wasteland in search of all kinds of handy components. “You
rip apart the world, and then you can build what you want,” says Game Director
Todd Howard. Watch our new video to find out why duct tape and glue might be
more valuable than grenades in Fallout 4. Continue here to read the full story.

A
Steam Community Group Announcement from Scott Cawthon reveals an RPG called
Five Nights at Freddy's World is the new game
plan recently teased
by the Five Nights at Freddy's creator (thanks
Eurogamer). He says was planning to announce this on Halloween, but grew
concerned his previous teases were creating confusion. Here's word: I
wanted to keep my plans for a new game secret until Halloween, but while my
teasers have created excitement for some people, they have created some
confusion as well, mainly because people don't know if the Five Nights at
Freddy's story is over or not.
It's very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at
Freddy's 5. The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will
not add to it.
That being said, I wanted to use these characters in a new and fun way because
they are so near and dear to my heart, and I was excited to work on a type of
game that I hadn't made in a long time.
The new game that I'm working on will be called FNAF World. It will not be a
horror game, but a role playing game where you create a party using the huge
selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered,
toy, phantom, and nightmare versions. I've been working steadily on characters
and hope to start on enemy models next week.
The bad news is that it's unlikely that a demo will be ready for Halloween like
I had hoped, since this game's scope is significantly larger than previous games
in the series. However, I will release a free demo, as promised, as soon as it's
ready!
FNAF World will be released on PC, Android, and iOS. I don't have an estimated
release date yet since the game is still early in development.
I hope you enjoy the new designs of the "adventure" characters, as I call them.
Stay tuned for more updates!
Nordic Games announces they have acquired the rights to create and publish new
games in the Nexus series of space-based real-time strategy games. This hasn't
really been much of a series to this point, as it has only produced one game so
far, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, which was
released in 2005. A
sequel called Nexus 2 was announced in
2011 which resulted in a
Kickstarter the following year, though
this failed to attract the funding they sought. Here's the deal on the
deal: Nordic Games announced today that it has closed an asset purchase
agreement with HD Publishing (formerly known as HD Interactive) to acquire the
intellectual property “Nexus” which had its only release in “Nexus: The Jupiter
Incident” in 2004, which has been published by Vivendi SA (formerly known as
Vivendi Universal) and HD Publishing.
The acquisition itself is being handled by Nordic Games Licensing AB, based in
Karlstad, Sweden, whereas the day-to-day business (sales and distribution,
evaluation of sequels & new content etc.) will be conducted by Nordic Games
GmbH, based in Vienna, Austria.
“We think that Nexus was one of those heavily overlooked, hidden gems in the
niche of Space-RTS.”, comments Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development
Director at Nordic Games. “We hope to start working on a sequel in the near
future.”
EA announces that Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 and the Yuri’s Revenge
expansion for the RTS sequel are now free on Origin as the latest installment in
their On the House program (thanks Ant). There are no strings attached besides
the use of Origin, as those
who act on this offer will have both items permanently added to their libraries.
Here's a refresher on the game, which first launched in 2002: The
world erupts in conflict as Soviet forces invade American soil in Command &
Conquer: Red Alert 2. Time travel has helped to eliminate the German threat, and
now the Soviets are expanding into the West unchecked. You are the Supreme
Commander. Arm yourself to the teeth with top-secret technologies and lead the
Soviet or Allied troops to victory.
Plus, defeat an army of mind-controlled Soviet forces in the expansion Command &
Conquer: Yuri's Revenge.

The
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive blog announces the launch of a new player
animation system for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the teamplay
first-person shooter.
This post
has the complete patch notes for the accompanying update, and here's an
explanation: This week we’re releasing a new player animation system for
CS:GO. For a complete list of changes, click
here.
The new system modernizes the player’s skeleton and hitboxes to better express
at-a-glance exactly what your enemies and teammates are doing. We’ve upgraded
all the existing body animations, and added some new ones like visible weapon
deploys, bomb defusing, and ladder-climbing.
Upgrading classic maps and adjusting weapon balance are just some of the ways
CS:GO is constantly evolving. We expect to continue iterating on animation in
future updates, so jump into a game and let us know what you think!
The
League of Legends website has the reveal of Kindred, a new Champion
coming to the gigantic MOBA. They offer a complete rundown on the characters'
abilities and synergy, and the following overview: We’re almost ready to
breathe life into League’s next champion, a marksman designed for a life in the
jungle. Kindred prowls through camps, marking enemy champions for death and
permanently growing in strength if they’re able to carry out the promised
sentence. But just as Kindred brings death, so can they delay it. Should their
allies meet deadly force, Lamb - one of Kindred’s two spirits - can create a
large blessed zone that, for a few valuable seconds, denies the ever-creeping
and inevitable clutches of death.
I finally had a proper five-man team experience in Heroes of the Storm
the other night, as MrKawfy worked up a few friends to join us for a full squad.
You may recall we tried this with our regular Monday night mutant gaming crew,
but a few of us didn't click with the game, so that was a fail. It's not like
this newer group is headed for the esports scene, we are surely just bronze
level, but we were able to communicate and coordinate as a team, which is so
much easier than trying to do so with strangers who may or may not be on the
same page as you. It really does make it into a whole different game, and we had
a great time. Very much looking forward to trying that again soon.
