Paradox Interactive announces the release of a new free Learn to Spell
Again... Again update for Magicka 2, the co-op action/adventure sequel. The
update is available
on Steam,
where the game is on sale, and they are also offering a couple of pieces of new
paid content, a
Gates of
Midgård Challenge pack and a
Three
Cardinals Robe Pack.
This trailer offers a look at the free pack, and there are details in
this post. Here's the announcement: Paradox Interactive, a publisher
of games that are often misspelled, today released a free update to Magicka 2
which includes an overhaul of the game’s iconic spellcasting system. Magicka 2,
a game that teaches “with great power comes zero responsibility,” now includes
three additional elements to include in spells, added for free to further
empower friendship-ending team-killing accidents. The new spell system arrives
today on Windows PC, and will appear very soon for the PlayStation®4 computer
entertainment system.
Two of the three elements added to the Magicka 2 spellcasting system make their
triumphant return from the classic repertoire of the original Magicka: Ice,
created by combining Cold and Water, and Steam, created by combining digital
software sales with a convenient interface. These new elements now occupy just
one slot each in a five-element spell, allowing players to finally recombine
Steam and Lightning, or Ice and Lightning, or Lightning and Lightning (which was
available before but is honestly a very nice combination). An all-new element
has been added as well: Poison, created by combining Water and Death, which
generates a cloud of toxic, life-sapping gas. All spell elements are now
lovingly rendered in a new visual effects system also being added to the game
today, also for free, also.
A new trailer – which is also free – is available today to demonstrate how to
handle wizards with toxic behavior: Continue here to read the full story.

This trailer from
For Honor unveils Oni, a hero from the Samurai faction in Ubisoft's upcoming
melee combat game. Here's word: "The Oni is a swift and lethal duelist who slays
his enemies with quickness and mastery. Donning leather and wood armor and
wielding a razor-sharp Japanese katana, the Oni strikes fear into his opponents
and dominates the battlefield with special abilities such as poisoning his
blade, throwing kunai, and unleashing an Arrow Storm. The Oni is a truly
powerful and formidable warrior."
In the past I've expressed my unabashed love for the Rock Band series, so when
Rock Band 4 was announced with the ability to import your existing song library,
I was set to take the plunge and get an Xbox One to play it. Unfortunately,
Harmonix has indicated RB4 may launch without online multiplayer support,
though they are being quite vague and confusing on the topic. Anyway, since all I do in the game is play online with friends,
absence of online multiplayer will cause me
to lose interest. That interview says they could add this with a
post-release patch, but given their history of not being very active at patching
their previous games, and the implication that his project is being developed on
a shoestring budget, I will wait to see if multiplayer support materializes
before making a commitment. They have a history of multiplayer misfires, as Rock Band 1
had no online career mode and Rock Band 3 dropped competitive duel modes
that were part of Rock Band 2, each time (mis)-stating that not many players
wanted them (the odd part of this is that all the videos I've
seen have me convinced Rock Band 4 is a port of Rock Band 2, and if that's
correct, I'm surprised it won't support all the same features). This still seems
up in the air, as
Harmonix's most recent announcement includes a FAQ saying: "We’re always
listening to our fans. We know that online play is important to many of you, and
we we’ll have more to say about our plans in this area in the coming months.
Stay tuned!" That was three months ago and the game is due in three weeks,
so I'm glad I didn't hold my breath (or preorder).

Gary Richrath, Guitarist And Songwriter For REO Speedwagon, Dead At 65.
