A
new article on Bethesda.net
attempts to answer the question of "What, exactly, is SnapMap" with a preview of the map editor that's coming
with id's upcoming new DOOM game.
Build It Yourself With
DOOM SnapMap trailer with an E3 presentation of the editor from id's Marty
Stratton. Here's the accompanying word:
What, exactly, is SnapMap? “At its core it’s a very easy to use content-creation
tool that works regardless of what platform you play on,” says id Software
Executive Producer Marty Stratton. Whether you’re an aspiring level-designer or
someone who simply wants to uncover all the best that the community has created,
SnapMap offers endless possibilities to extend the DOOM experience. But don’t
think that “easy to use” means SnapMap is overly simplistic. “You can go to a
level of detail that allows you to create completely custom game modes,”
Stratton promises. With community being such a big part of the DOOM experience,
the team at id Software aims to offer a powerful tool that will allow anyone to
unleash their creativity. “It’s one of the primary goals – to really deliver the
ability to make your own DOOM to everybody,” says Robert Duffy, Chief Technology
Officer, id Software. Watch our new video for even more details about DOOM
SnapMap.

A new trailer from
Blizzard puts the spotlight on Rexxar, a new warrior coming to Heroes of the
Storm, their team brawler/MOBA doing nothing to quell speculation that he
will be released on Tuesday. The clip shows off the half orc/half ogre hunter
and Misha, his faithful bear companion, showing off their various talents and
abilities. There's even an introductory strategy guide for this hero that also
touches on how he can be countered. Continue here to read the full story.
A new in-engine
cinematic trailer from Total War: WARHAMMER introduces Dwarfs and
Underground Battles! Creative Assembly offers the following description for the
clip: Deep beneath the World’s Edge Mountains, in the throne-room of the
Dwarfen capital Karaz-A-Karak, High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer broods.
Poring endlessly over the Dammaz Kron, the Great Book of Grudges, he dreams of
vengeance for the countless betrayals and treacheries against his people. And
sometimes, just sometimes, an opportunity to settle an old score presents
itself…
This spectacular new trailer uses in-engine models and animations to introduce
the sturdy, redoubtable Dwarfs, one of four playable races in Total War:
WARHAMMER.
Great miners and smiths, the Dwarfs craft some of the finest arms and armament
in the Old World. Marching to battle in suits of rugged yet wonderfully ornate
armour, they field a devastating array of black-powder weapons and artillery. In
times of dire need, the gyrocopters of the Everpeak Aircorps stand ready to
right old wrongs, launching skywards to rain explosive hell upon their foes.
In this epic forthcoming game, players will also be able to experience
underground battlefields for the first time in Total War, with all the horrors
of the dark and wonders of the deep they contain… Continue here to read the full story.

HELL'S CLUB. NEW MASHUP AMDSFILMS. Thanks PunkiBastardo.
This month marks the 25th anniversary of the release of The Secret of Monkey
Island, the first installment in LucasArts' fantastic point-and-click
swashbuckling adventure series (thanks
PC Gamer). Ron Gilbert, one of the game's creators, has
a big post on his Grumpy Gamer blog
to commemorate the occasion, offering anecdotes and images of some artifacts
from the game's development like concept sketches and photos of floppy disks
(the newfangled 3½" variety!). He also tosses it out there that he would be
interested in buying the rights to continue the series if Mickey is willing to
sell: I don’t know if I will ever get to make another Monkey Island. I
always envisioned the game as a trilogy and I really hope I do, but I don’t know
if it will ever happen. Monkey Island is now owned by Disney and they haven't
shown any desire to sell me the IP. I don’t know if I could make
Monkey Island 3a
without complete control over what I was making and the only way to do that is
to own it. Disney: Call me.
Maybe someday. Please don’t suggest I do a Kickstarter to get the money, that’s
not possible without Disney first agreeing to sell it and they haven’t done
that.
Following a false
start, an "interim patch" is now available for the Windows edition of Batman: Arkham
Knight, which was so broken upon release, sales of the superhero sequel
were suspended until
things could be sorted out. As the interim tag suggests, there may still be
issues, but this should address a variety of problems. This
Steam Community Group Announcement from WBIE has the details: Good
news - testing for the interim patch has been completed and it is now available
for those who already have Batman: Arkham Knight for PC. As a reminder, below
are some of the major fixes and improvements that will be addressed with this
patch:
Reduced frame rate hitches
Optimizations for system memory and VRAM usage
Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers)
More Comprehensive In-Game Settings
Fixed low resolution texture bugs
Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD)
In addition to the above, we’re continuing to work on the following for future
updates:
Adding support for SLI and Crossfire
Adding support for the latest DLC & Season Pass content
Adding support for additional updates such as Photo Mode
Continued improvements and bug fixing for a Windows 7 specific memory issue that
occurs on configurations with 8GB of system RAM and some NVIDIA GPUs during
extended game play
Continued improvements for Windows 10 specific issues on systems with some AMD
GPUs
As always, we will monitor for any additional issues that come up and will
provide further optimizations and bug fixes along the way.
We would like to thank everyone for their patience and invaluable feedback.
We’ll provide ongoing updates here as they are made available. In the meantime,
please enjoy the game with the latest patch.
InCell is now available for Windows, OS X, and Linux
on Steam, and the
exploration game carries a 15% launch discount. This takes a step beyond the
microscopic setting of Fantastic Voyage by talking place within a single cell,
offering racing and strategy elements. This includes support for VR headsets,
but can also be played with a traditional monitor. Here's
a trailer showing
things off. Continue here to read the full story.

Klepto -- Steam Greenlight. "Klepto is a VR supported sandbox burglary
simulation game featuring a criminal career progression from an amateur
thief to high-tech professional. Players will leverage a variety of tools,
disguises and hacking techniques to “strategically acquire” assets
throughout sandbox neighborhood environments." Also on

Today may be a little quiet (or not, who knows?) since we're on the crest of a
holiday weekend here in the U.S., as Monday is Labor Day here, a totally
non-commie celebration of working for the man. This also marks the unofficial end of
summer, though the season will continue for a few more weeks on the calendar. My
perception is that these rules-of-thumb have been especially accurate in these
parts lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if temperatures suddenly plummet after
Monday. In fact, this has been so pronounced it would only be a small shock to
wake up Tuesday to snow, or at least a yard full of dead leaves.
