Activision announces Call of Duty: Black Ops III will get a
"re-imagined" version of the Nuk3town map, offering this as an incentive to
preorder the upcoming spec-ops shooter sequel. Here's word:
“The Nuketown
maps have a special place in Call of Duty multiplayer history and we can’t wait
to build upon that heritage in Black Ops III,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of
Treyarch. “We carefully adapted the design of the map to make sure that it fit
with our new movement system, but to also make sure that we retained the spirit
and the fun that made fans fall in love with it in the first place.”
The popular map debuted in the original Call of Duty®: Black Ops, and returned
in Call of Duty®: Black Ops II as Nuketown 2025, with an updated look and feel
representing the home of the future. As Nuk3town in Call of Duty: Black Ops III,
this classic, downloadable bonus map once again delivers quick-hitting action
that’s suitable for all game types, but now reimagined for a new generation of
play styles to best fit the new movement system.
A
frequently
retweeted tweet says the physical PC version of
Metal Gear Solid V: The
Phantom Pain does not actually contain the game, but rather a 9 MB stub
Steam installer on an otherwise empty Blu-ray disc. This was found
on Destructoid where they mention a the game will be a 28 GB download,
though they don't say how they arrived at that figure, nor do they indicate why
this tweet is being so widely accepted as fact, though we have no specific
reason to believe it isn't accurate.

A
Steam Community Announcement has word that "the sun sets on
Moonrise,"
as Undead Labs says that the response to the
Early Access and early mobile versions of
Moonrise has lead them to
decide not to release their virtual card game commercially (thanks
Gamer's Hell). Their
first foray into the free-to-play marketplace has garnered "mostly positive"
reviews, but they say that there was a tendency for players to move on pretty
quickly after checking this out, which would not justify the cost of running
online servers. They are going out in style, however, releasing a new patch to
"open the floodgates," and promising to continue to operate the game for the
rest of the year. Here's word:
In light of this, we won’t be commercially
releasing Moonrise. There are some fantastic elements to the game that we’re
extremely proud of, and those might find their way into a future game someday,
but for now we’re going to make some changes to the game that make it a blast to
play for our existing players.
Since we won’t have to worry about whether the game is profitable, we can just
have some fun and open the floodgates. We’re updating the game with new Solari,
wildlands, dungeons, and clothing shops. We’re also increasing rewards in Arena
Mode, making it easier to earn XP and hit upgrade and evolution milestones,
increasing drop rates, decreasing leveling time, and generally making the game
play faster and easier across the board. We’re also giving every player a free
Sunset Pack containing 2,000 gems, 10,000 gold, two Solari Boosters, and a bunch
of essences. Detailed patch notes are here.
This update will be available on Steam today. We’ll keep the servers running for
the rest of the year, ending midnight, December 31.
Steam now offers Early
Access to
WARSHIFT, a space game created by a lone developer that combines
action, RTS, and RPG gameplay. Here's
a trailer offering a
look at how this works, and here's a brief description:
WARSHIFT is an
indie experimental project where Action, RTS and RPG gameplay elements are
combined in one space epic. You can build bases, manage armies, and then come
down to keep the enemies at gunpoint, gain experience in dynamic battles and
customize your main characters and vehicles. This project is being developed by
just one person - Cyril Megem, who is both artist, game designer and programmer
in this project. He worked hard to implement many his and community's innovative
ideas in this game.

I've declared today an official holiday in the BlueTower and Manstovia to
commemorate the birthday of Hudson the wonder dog, as my late, great companion
would have turned 15 years old today. I won't be skipping out on work or
anything, but I will try and find a way to make it special for the Gunnar-man,
as it's always nice to have an excuse to indulge my little buddy. The last data
I can find say that the Airedale Terrier is only the 56th most popular breed in
the U.S., right behind Whippets, so you aren't very likely to come across one,
but if you do see one today, be sure to wish them a happy Hudson Day!
