Indie developer Psyonix announces plans for OS X and SteamOS editions of
Rocket League, saying these ports of the motorized sports game should arrive
by the end of this year. "We're extremely excited about SteamOS and Mac," said
Dave Hagewood, Founder and President of Psyonix. "Our PC players have already
proven how much passion they have for our game, and this is a great opportunity
for us to bring Rocket League to an even wider audience inside the Steam
family." They celebrate the news with a 10% off sale
on Steam, and of course
the SteamOS and OS X editions will be part of that purchase when released.
Here's more on the plan, which includes a free copy of the game with Steam
Hardware preorders: Rocket League, the popular and critically-acclaimed
sports-action title from independent game developer, Psyonix, is one of the top
games of the summer. Having sold more than 1 million copies via Steam since its
release last month, Rocket League is now officially heading to the SteamOS and
Mac platforms later this year. To prepare for the SteamOS launch, Psyonix and
Valve are immediately offering Rocket League for free to those who pre-order (or
have pre-ordered) any of the Steam Hardware devices (Steam Controller, Steam
Link, or Steam Machine).
Rocket League brings players a high-powered hybrid of arcade-style soccer and
vehicular mayhem. Offering easy-to-understand controls and fluid physics-driven
gameplay, Rocket League boasts more than 10 billion possible garage
customizations and multiple match settings. As one of the best-selling titles of
the year, Rocket League is already one of the top titles featured in multiple
eSports leagues throughout the world and has been one of the most watched games
on YouTube and Twitch throughout the summer.

A post on Battle.net
has more follow-up on placement
matches in Heroes of the Storm following a
recent comment
from Blizzard saying they would investigate complaints of irregularities. They
describe reasons they feel this may not have worked so well at the top and
bottom ends of the scale, but it sounds like the ways they plan to improve this
will apply to the beginning of the MOBA's first season. Here's a bit:
With our
most recent patch, we reset everyone’s Hero and Team League rankings and
implemented a placement system, which requires that all players complete a
minimum of 20 ranked games before they are placed into the ranking system.
After reviewing internal data, we’ve found that the majority of players are
being ranked much more accurately. However, we have identified some cases where
this was not always true. Specifically, we want to make improvements to the top
and bottom ends of the ranking spectrum. In addition, we’ve seen a lot of
discussion and feedback about the new system over the past few days, and we’d
like to clear up some things about placement matches, ranks, and our plans
moving forward.
Though it was just announced a few days
ago, Devolver Digital now announces September 24th is the release date for
Fistful of Gun, the upcoming top-down western shooter from developer
Farmergnome. They offer a
new trailer from the game, and say more it will be on display this weekend
for attendees of PAX Prime. Here's the news: Lawless developer
Farmergnome and misfit publisher Devolver Digital have announced that
nine-player co-op western A Fistful of Gun is set to launch on PC via Steam,
GOG, and Humble on September 24 [fistfulofgun.com]. Gamers that are quick on the
draw can pre-order A Fistful of Gun now and save 25% off a single $12.99 shot.
Originally roaming the open range of the internet as a freeware project, A
Fistful of Gun has sauntered back into town as an epic tale of vengeance set
against a brilliantly colorful American frontier full of dangerous cutthroats.
Select one of 11 unique playable gunslingers and seek revenge as a lone wolf or
with up to eight other bandits in local and online co-op. Master the specialized
controls of each character, collect gold from fallen foes to purchase upgrades,
and imbibe a bit of liquid courage and unleash a tornado of lead across the
dusty plains.
“I’m not legally allowed to promote a drinking game that involves a shot of
tequila each time another player gets the drunk power-up during A Fistful of Gun
co-op games but that would be pretty solid,” said Devolver Digital CFO Fork
Parker. Continue here to read the full story.
Calvino Noir is now available
on Steam. offering the
Windows and OS X editions of this noir stealth platformer that's also now
available for PS4 and iOS. A new
release
trailer shows off the game's atmosphere, and the announcement lays out what
to expect: Today aptly named developer Calvino Noir Limited launched its
first title, Calvino Noir, a mysterious stealth game inspired by the classics of
film noir, for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PC via Steam and
iOS devices. Calvino Noir takes players on an unforgettable journey through the
underworld of 1930s Europe with stylistic side-scrolling gameplay, a dark and
foreboding visual style presented in shades of grey, and multiple paths and
characters to explore.
Calvino Noir is the brainchild of game director Dan Walters, who approached the
project with multiple goals. First, designing architecture authentic to the era
with locales that provide thoughtful and exhilarating gameplay moments. Whether
hiding in the shadows or sneaking across rooftops, players have to be keenly
aware of their surroundings and take advantage of what the world offers.
Next came creating a stealth mechanic that allows for multiple playable
characters, each delivering a unique twist on how problems can be solved. The
game's three protagonists vary in their mindsets and how they approach
situations, offering players new ways to tackle problems; everything from brute
force to shadowy deception is in play. Puzzles often have multiple solutions, so
exploration is imperative to outsmarting the enemy.
The final goal was creating a striking film noir atmosphere complete with a
fully voiced narrative to bring that feeling to life. Calvino Noir transports
players to a dark and surreal world on the verge of revolution through places
littered with scum and villainy. The game's seven levels, spread across three
distinct acts, progressively reveal the more sinister overarching story at play.
Calvino Noir is available today worldwide on PlayStation®4 through the
PlayStation®Store and PC via Steam for $24.49 / £14.99 / €17.99 (entire game)
and in three acts on iOS for $3.99 / £2.99 / €3.99 (per act/episode). It is
rated T (Teen) by the ESRB. To keep up with the latest news, please visit

This video is a new
developer diary for Just Cause 3, where the developers at Avalanche Studios
discuss the next installment in their over-the-top action series. They also note
this will be another of the games on display this weekend at PAX Prime, and that
there will be a panel discussion of the game as well. Here's more on this diary,
which focuses on the game's destruction: The second entry in the JUST
CAUSE 3 Dev Diary series takes a close look at the destruction that sits at the
heart of the game. In the video, the Avalanche team discuss the dynamic nature
of the technology and the unique scenarios that this gives birth to:
“We’ve been focused purely on the new generation of high-end technology from the
very beginning of development” said Game Director Roland Lesterlin “this huge
amount of extra horsepower allows us to do things that simply weren’t possible
until now”.
The Destruction Dev Diary takes a look at these things in action. Continue here to read the full story.

DRAGO Entertainment announces they now plan to begin Early Access to Otherland
on September 10th. They had previously planned on launching this preliminary
version of their MMORPG yesterday, but
that was as of two weeks ago, and
obviously influenced by the youthful optimism of that bygone era. "After so many years in development, we figured a few more days could not
hurt," comments Lucjan Mikociak, CEO of DRAGO Entertainment, jokingly.
"Seriously, though: we just need a bit more time to ensure a smooth Early Access
launch, especially since we are now providing both US and EU based servers at
launch – a feature requested many times by our growing community." They also
offer a new trailer showing
off key features. Continue here to read the full story.

most recent financial
report from CD Projekt RED, which show favorable results for the Polish
publisher/developer. This includes word that The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

Galaxy, and say they may be in a position to start offering their investors a
dividend. Thanks

This video from Frozenbyte
offers a further response to some of the negative feedback aimed at Trine 3:
The Artifacts of Power, expanding on
earlier comments they made about
the length (or lack thereof) of the game. With pained expressions, Kai Tuovinen
and Joel Kinnunen apologize for not communicating in advance that they planned
on splitting the story for Trine 3 (though their previous statement did say they
didn't intend it to be so short), and for not considering creating a shorter
story that would not leave the cliffhanger ending. They beat themselves up
pretty well here, and express repeated regrets over communicating how they were
proceeding early on in development to properly set fan expectations. They
indicate they are still working on a plan to recover from this going forward,
admitting it is now "pretty much do or die" for the developer as they go "back
to the drawing board, completely." Continue here to read the full story.
Headup and Merge announce the launch of Onikira: Demon Killer for PC. Onikira, a
delay from the plan to launch the game within three weeks of last month's announcement. A
trailer from last week
shows off the game's side-scrolling action, and here's the news: Headup Games and Merge Games today announce the release of Onikira: Demon
Killer for PC. Onikira will launch across Steam and other digital stores priced
$13.99, £10.59 or €13.99.
A Contributor's Pack, containing Onikira - Demon Killer; The Onikira Soundtrack;
Digital Artwork from Digital Furnace Games; and a Gift-copy of Onikira - Demon
Killer for a friend is also available priced $19.99, £14.99 or €19.99.
Developed by Irish-based indie, Digital Furnace Games, Onikira: Demon Killer is
an awesome side-scrolling, 2D beat’em-up set in fantasy feudal Japan. As
Yamazaki Jiro, a lone samurai, players battle to prevent the forces of the
Japanese underworld, Yomi, from consuming the land of the living.
Onikira: Demon Killer blends together complex deep fighting mechanics usually
found in traditional 3D beat-em’ups and merges them with classic 2D
platform-game mechanics. Onikira’s expressive fighting system enables players to
engage in whichever way suits them best. Some players will prefer to go toe-to
toe with heavy weapons and mash buttons while others will opt for a ranged game
style, avoiding heavy melee encounters.
Onikira: Demon Killer boasts seven challenging areas and players can express
themselves with over forty uber-cool moves, using four devastating weapons. Each
level is littered with foul demons that players must dispatch back to the
underworld and players must also face two mini-bosses and two epic mega
bosses. Continue here to read the full story.
Developer Games Farm announces they have purchased the rights to Shadows:
Heretic Kingdoms from bankrupt publisher
bitComposer, saying they plan a Book Two for the action/RPG. They are also
gearing up for some "major improvements" to the first game, and will be
releasing all its DLC as a show of thanks for their supporters. There's even
more involved in this, here's word on it all: Commenting on the deal,
Peter Nagy CEO of Games Farm said, “It was our intention from the beginning to
bring only the best gaming experience to players. However, after our long-term
partner bitComposer Entertainment AG filed for insolvency in late 2014, the
future of our games was in severe jeopardy. However, the acquisition of the
publishing and distribution rights now gives us the freedom to develop and
enhance our games and ensures them a bright future, something which our fans
deserve.”
Lead Programmer, Jan Turan added, “We are now committed to ensuring that the
promises made to players are kept and that Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms will
receive major updates and extensions in 2015 and 2016.
Games Farm are working on exciting major improvements to the existing Book 1 and
the game world as a whole, further details for which will be revealed over the
coming weeks and months. However, the first additional content for fans of the
game is the new extended official soundtrack for Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms,
written and composed by Dynamedion, which contains six brand new and additional
tracks to the existing 21, and is available on Steam now.
To thank the community for their ongoing patience and continuing support, Games
Farm has decided to release all existing DLC content (originally available
exclusively in the Deluxe Edition featuring three quests - The Tholean Tablet,
The Owl Amulet, and The Scorpion King) to all players of Shadows: Heretic
Kingdoms. Those who have purchased the Deluxe Edition will receive a prequel to
Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms entitled Kult: Heretic Kingdoms (originally Heretic
Kingdoms: The Inquisition in US)’.
Furthermore, as a token of gratitude to all Early Access players and the players
who have bought Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms to date, Games Farm will give free
access to ‘Kult: Heretic Kingdoms’ along with the original soundtrack from
Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, thus enhancing all existing copies to the Deluxe
Edition.
As the Games Farm celebrate the acquisition of the rights to Shadows: Heretic
Kingdoms, a 50% discount is offered to their entire gaming catalogue, including
the games from the ‘Air Conflicts’ series for a limited period of time. The
Standard Edition of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is available on Steam and GOG for
$9.99 / €9.99, the Deluxe Edition is available on Steam for $13.49 / €13.49. Do
not miss this limited time opportunity!

Apparently yesterday was National Dog Day or something. I didn't notice this in
time to mention it, which is not out of disinterest... as you can probably tell
from some of my posts, every day is a celebration of canine coolness at the
BlueTower. Yesterday was no exception: The Gunnar-man and I went on our
usual big adventure through the neighborhood, and he got to cavort with several
of his dog buddies (though he missed out on his little people, as there are now
some neighborhood children quite enamored of him). It seems a little cheesy to
fall back on that excuse, though, so I think I will pick him up a treat for a
belated dinner celebration as well.
