The teaser countdown from Boss Key
Productions now points to this website, revealing
LawBreakers, the free-to-play first-person shooter in the works at this new studio from former Epic design
director Cliff Bleszinski. This includes an
official LawBreakers
announce trailer describing your role in a militant police force set to
protect a gravity-challenged post-apocalyptic utopia that sprang up after "clandestine government
testing" broke the moon ("the shattering" that was part of the tease). However
there is
a note that they've added the ability to register on their forums as LAW,
BREAKERS, or NEUTRAL, and
the announcement makes it clear you can also play as a criminal. Here's
first word on the game codenamed Project Bluestreak: LawBreakers is a competitive team-based FPS set in an alternate future in which
the world has been divided into two factions following a huge cataclysmic event
known as ‘The Shattering’ that changed gravity forever. Afterward, the world
recovered and ushered in a new age technological advancements providing gravity
manipulation and supplement use that grants near-superhuman abilities. Now, the
new technology rages and two forces fight for control; a peacekeeping
organization charged with upholding the law, and a highly-organized crime
syndicate bent on breaking it. Players will be asked to choose a side – it’s LAW
versus BREAKERS. Continue here to read the full story.
Night Dive Studios is preparing
HD PC remasters of the first two Turok games, presumably after finding DNA from
the dinosaur hunting shooters in an amber-trapped mosquito. They don't have a
release date yet, but express their enthusiasm for the project: Night Dive
Studios, a company specializing in the restoration of classic PC game titles, is
pleased to announce that it will restore and publish modernized versions of two
classic game titles: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.
Originally developed for PC in 1997 and Nintendo 64 in 1999, both titles will be
re-mastered for today’s modern computers with enhanced graphics and other
improvements. The games will be made available for sale exclusively through
Steam, the Humble Bundle store, GOG (Good Old Games), GamersGate, Greenman
Gaming, and via the Night Dive Studios website.
Stephen Kick, CEO and Founder of Night Dive Studios, explains, “When Turok:
Dinosaur Hunter was first released it was nothing short of revolutionary. To
that point, no game had ever offered the combination of graphics and an open
world environment that Turok featured. We are very excited to have the
opportunity to bring this great franchise back to life and to be able to share
these great titles with today’s gaming audience.”
Hammerfall Publishing announces a new release date for Warhammer 40,000:
Regicide, saying the Warhammer 40K Windows strategy game is now due out of
Early Access on September
8th. The official release of the game
was expected today, so we
inquired if there was an explanation for the setback, and not unexpectedly, the
answer was for a few extra days of polish and testing.

UbiBlog
has the news that the Windows edition of Assassin's Creed Syndicate on
November 19th after previously being expected on October 23rd for all platforms.
Word is they tried really hard to head this off from the beginning, but it
happened anyway: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will be
releasing on PC worldwide on November 19, less than a month after the PS4 and
Xbox One versions of the game. But why is it coming out after the console
versions? Sam Kovalev, Studio Production Manager at Ubisoft Kiev, tells us the
development team is dedicated to ensuring PC players get the most stable,
optimized version of the game on day one.
“We have introduced several new improvements to our production pipeline and
validation process, which allowed us to focus on polishing, stabilizing and
optimizing the PC version very early on in the project,” says Kovalev. “This has
been one of the top priorities for the production team this year.”
But even with these new processes in place and everything running on schedule,
the team still wants to let Assassin’s Creed Syndicate cook for a little while
longer before releasing it on PC, so as to give players the optimal experience.
“The additional four weeks are for us to really bear down and finalize all of
the polish and optimization, to make sure the game and all of its systems are
stable when it launches, so it runs smoothly for all players starting on day
one,” explains Kovalev.
The team in Kiev is working to accommodate the myriad PC setups as they optimize
the game. Kovalev tells us that PC requirements are still being finalized, and
said that there will be no locks on the game as far as framerate and resolution
goes. The recommended system requirements will target 1080p and 30 FPS.

expansive: Techland announced today that a free demo of its
critically-acclaimed zombie game Dying Light is now globally available to

You can download the demo from the PlayStation Store, the Xbox One Store or

“With the demand for Dying Light still high after more than half a year on the
market, we wondered what else we could do to help players decide which game to
buy – says producer Tymon Smektała. – Then we thought: demoes were pretty much a
standard in the previous generation, but suddenly they’ve become few and far
between. So we decided to use some of our resources to release a demo now and
let everyone experience our game first-hand.”

Norwegian developer Funcom announces The Park, a horror game set in an amusement
park coming to Windows this October, noting this will be their first
single-player experience since Dreamfall: The Longest Journey in 2006. The
official The Park website is online,
offering some details and
a brief teaser trailer, and while they don't come out and say so,
Rock, Paper, Shotgun has a confirmation from Funcom that this game uses the
same setting as their MMORPG The Secret World. Here's the announcement:
Amusement parks are happy places, filled with the innocent joys of
childhood and the exhilarating rush of hair-raising, but safe adventure.
Balloons, cotton candy and fantastic rides to be dared. Perhaps that is how
Lorraine pictured it too when she brought her son Callum to one... just before
it descended into the most terrifying nightmare of her life.
Funcom is thrilled to announce 'The Park', a unique horror story and the
company's first single-player experience since its award-winning adventure
'Dreamfall: The Longest Journey'. Releasing on the PC in October this year, 'The
Park' puts you in the shoes of a mother whose son goes missing. When night falls
and the lights go out, what follows is a short, but intense horror story set
against the backdrop of an amusement park where a dark and sinister secret is
just waiting to be uncovered.
"It has been very exciting and creatively energizing for us working on a
single-player experience again," says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. "'The Park' is
actually the outcome of what started with a small group of developers
experimenting with new concepts and looking at how we could draw upon the
universes we have built for our massively multiplayer online games and expand
upon them into smaller-scale single-player games. Something special started to
take shape, and 'The Park' ultimately became something we are eager to share
with the rest of the world." Continue here to read the full story.
Battle.net
announces that Infernal Shrines should launch today, offering a new
Diablo-themed map for Heroes of the Storm, their MOBA. They also
announce that the Battlefield of Eternity map that was pulled
due to bugs will return to the map rotation, which will be pared down to
allow more play in the new map (which has
reported issues
of its own). Here's word on how they will create map fatigue in an effort to
prevent map fatigue: We’re planning to make our newest Battleground,
Infernal Shrines, available for play in all game modes starting on Wednesday,
August 26. At that time, we’re also going to temporarily reduce the size of our
normal Battleground pool for one week in order to increase the chances that
you’ll be able to play on Infernal Shrines when you queue for matchmaking. The
six Battlegrounds we’ve selected for this rotation are listed below.
Battleground Rotation: August 26 – September 2
- Infernal Shrines
- Battlefield of Eternity
- Cursed Hollow
- Dragon Shire
- Sky Temple
- Tomb of the Spider Queen
While Blackheart’s Bay, Haunted Mines, and Garden of Terror will not be
available in matchmaking game modes during this time, you can still play on them
using Custom Games. We’ll let you know once Infernal Shrines and the temporary
Battleground Rotation have been enabled.
Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson announces that the Windows and Xbox editions of the
Call of Duty: Black Ops III closed beta launch today, offering a
previously released
trailer and noting that access to this is restricted to those who preorder
the military shooter sequel. A
post by Treyarch (thanks
MP1st) has word for PC gamers on what to expect, including minimum system
specifications: We are super excited to put the Black Ops 3 PC Beta in
your hands more than 2 months before the game launches on November 6.
It’s been said before over the last week, but it bears repeating: the Beta
represents a mere fraction of what you can expect on November 6 when the full
game launches. A Beta affords us the opportunity to test hardware compatibility,
networking, default settings, and other systems – while at the same time,
allowing you to get your hands on the game and provide the kind of feedback that
can make for the best Day One possible.
How can you contribute? Well, there are a few ways:
- Twitter: We’ll have our ear to the @Treyarch Twitter machine and
we’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on everything from gameplay to
bugs.
- Twitter: For technical issues, feel free to Tweet at @ATVIAssist
- Forums: Check for the Black Ops III Beta section
here.
Because you’re a PC player, you know that this is a different animal from
console development. So, there are a few things you should know about the Black
Ops 3 PC Beta…
Final optimizations and final Advanced Graphics features are not included in the
PC Beta; however, you can expect that these will be in the final game. We
typically spend the last couple of months before launch finalizing graphics
features and optimizations on PC. Also, the final optimized drivers from our
hardware partners will also come later. (Because this isn’t your first rodeo,
you know that this is normal.)

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary of the release of Born to Run. I guess
it's a sign that popular music has matured that Bruce Springsteen's magnum opus
can still be relevant today. Compare this to the most popular song 40 years
before the release of BtR in 1975, which was Cheek to Cheek by Fred
Astaire.
