Archived News:
UbiBlog has an update
from the Rainbow Six Siege development team announcing a delay to the
upcoming installment in the tactical shooter series. The game was
expected in October, but now they
say its worldwide release is coming on December 1st, saying the extra time will
allow them to make adjustments and improvements based on feedback as well as
their own internal testing. A closed beta will precede the release, and this is
currently expected to begin on September 24th. Here's more on the setback: This
wasn’t an easy decision, but based on the feedback we’ve received, and based on
our own internal tests, we felt there are adjustments and improvements we can
make, including improving the co-op experience across all game modes, weapon and
gadget balancing, as well as menu and interface navigation. We’re taking a
little more time to make these changes, and we think it’s the right call.
The closed beta for Rainbow Six Siege will still start on September 24, 2015 as
planned, and the additional time will allow us to further test things like
infrastructure and matchmaking. That extra testing and added polish will make
for a higher-quality experience at launch.
UbiBlog
announces the release of Zombi for Windows, PS4, and Xbox One,
offering other platforms a crack at the zombies from the 2012 game known as
ZombiU for WiiU. The news is accompanied by
this launch trailer,
and here's word: The back alleys of London can be dark and spooky even at
the best of times, but when you add the threat of tough, flesh-hungry zombies
lurking around every corner, they become downright nightmarish. With only a few
bullets and a cricket bat for protection, how long can you last against the
undead hordes of Zombi? And perhaps more importantly, will you be able to wrest
your stuff back from your own zombified remains after one bite too many? You can
discover the answers by downloading Zombi, available today for PlayStation 4,
Xbox One and PC.
An updated port of 2012’s ZombiU, Zombi trades the Wii U’s second-screen
controls for improved performance, as well as two new melee weapons – a
longer-range shovel and a more damaging nail bat – that can give those who find
them an edge in combat. Zombi’s flashlight has also undergone a few changes,
giving you the option to focus it into a stronger, wider beam at a greater cost
to its batteries – which now take 30 seconds of darkness to fully recharge.
Even with the changes, however, Zombi works hard to retain the claustrophobia
and tension of the original. The mini-map may be on screen now, but juggling
your inventory is just as stressful as it was on Wii U; the contents of your bag
now obscure your view without pausing the game, forcing you to rely on hearing
and peripheral vision to sense any approaching shamblers. And when your
character dies, permadeath means you’ll start as a new survivor with minimal
gear – unless, of course, you want to try finding and fighting your former self
for the contents of your bug-out bag.
Zombi is available for $19.99 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. For more details on the
changes from ZombiU to Zombi, be sure to check out our
interview with Producer Hélène Henry. Continue here to read the full story.

After
reporting layoffs at IllFonic stating the studio's work on the Star Marine
FPS module for Star Citizen is nearly done, a
follow-up on GamesIndustry.biz has word from the developer that this is not
because the module is almost complete, but that they are taking development
in-house. Here's the statement on the situation: "In the early days of
Star Citizen's development, we were still quite small and needed the assistance
from several external studios to help us build Star Citizen's core functionality
in a timely fashion," a Cloud Imperium representative told GamesIndustry.biz.
"IllFonic, who had previous CryEngine experience, was one of the developers that
we tapped, specifically for help on the FPS game systems and mechanics that
would be inside Star Citizen."
"As Cloud Imperium Games and Foundry 42 in Europe have continued to grow, we've
begun pulling in some of those external projects to reside with our internal
teams. This has always been our plan and Global Production Head Erin Roberts is
currently undergoing a review of all our projects in order to streamline Star
Citizen so the project is more dependent on our internal development teams."
"In the case of IllFonic and Star Marine, this 'winding down' and
'transitioning' has been in progress as IllFonic's part in FPS is coming to a
close. And with the increased responsibilities for Star Marine development now
sitting in Frankfurt and Manchester, we can assure our backers that they'll be
able to play Star Marine in the very near future."

this clip which seems
to have remained online all along, showing the version of the game some
derisively dubbed "Call of Doom." Continue here to read the full story.
Nordic Games announces Aquanox Deep Descent, a planned continuation of
the Aquanox series of underwater shooters in development at Digital Arrow. They
also note that the pre-production version of the game incorporates "assets and
research" from an unreleased THQ underwater action game called Deep Six. This
was actually unveiled last year,
as this trailer from
September offers n early look. They have taken
to
Kickstarter to raise $75,000 to develop this. Here's word: “Reaching
the main funding goal of the Kickstarter campaign will allow us to create a new
Aquanox game of the size and complexity it deserves, for gamers around the
globe. At the same time, it also allows us to make its future players an
integral part in development decisions surrounding the game at its earliest
stages,” comments Norbert Varga, project lead at Digital Arrow.
“We’ve had long discussions with Digital Arrow about the scope of the game and
the transition to Unreal Engine 4. Based on our positive previous experience
with Kickstarter (The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 together with the developer KING
ART), we firmly believe it is the right platform to help us achieve our joint
vision for the future of Aquanox”, adds Martin Kreuch, producer at Nordic
Games.

5 Lives Studios announces an August 28th release date for Satellite Reign, the
open-world cyberpunk strategy game that harkens back to the glory days of
Syndicate Wars. The news is celebrated in
this new trailer, and
a post on Steam warns that some localizations may be delayed after that, and

Satellite Reign is now less than two weeks from leaving Early Access, taking it
into full release. Creating this title has been an amazing, unforgettable

draw nearer is both exciting and nerve-racking, but we're optimistic that people
will enjoy what we've created. Continue here to read the full story.

It hit 90 degrees again in the area for the third straight day yesterday, making
for an official heat wave. This was as uncomfortable as it sounds, as the east
coast is not known for that "dry heat" you sometimes hear about. However, this
actually inspires me to offer some gratitude about the weather, as this turns
out to be our first heat wave since the summer of 2013. This explains why the
air conditioner remained in the basement all last summer, and why we haven't had
to run it much this year either. As I say, this inspires gratitude, and I
certainly have sympathies for those living where the summer is not as pleasant
(not to mention our friends down under who are in the heart of winter right
now).
