Runic Games announces Hob, an upcoming exploration game for PC and
consoles said to be "presented without text or dialogue." This does not yet
carry a release date, but they say they plan to show it off next week at PAX
Prime. Here's word: Runic Games, Inc. (“Runic Games”), a specialized
developer of PC-based entertainment software in the United States, announced
their new project today. “Hob” is the new title from Runic Games, a new,
original intellectual property for PC and console.
Hob is set on a beautiful and dangerous unknown world, with buzzing life above
and the whirrs of mysterious machinery below. The more players delve into the
world’s design, the more they uncover a planet in peril. Players must learn to
survive, understand their true purpose through acquiring skills, and ultimately
transform the nature of the world itself.
Hob is presented without text or dialogue. Narrative is revealed as players
explore and interact with their mysterious planet, and the strange life forms
that inhabit it. The third title from developer Runic Games, Hob is being
developed for PC and console, featuring smooth controller gameplay,
multi-layered puzzles, and striking visuals.
“Hob represents a major departure from our ARPG roots. We are confident our fans
will love this unique and wonderful adventure. We can’t wait for people to see
it!” comments CEO Max Schaefer.
Players will get their first hands-on look at Hob during PAX Prime in Seattle,
which runs from August 28 through August 31, where Runic Games will be
exhibiting at booth #6602. The official Hob website, hobgame.com, is also live
today with screenshots, concept art, and the first teaser trailer. Gaming news
outlet Polygon has the exclusive first interview with developers.
GOG.com announces the release of the promised new DLC for The Witcher
III: Wild Hunt, which adds a new Game+ mode to the RPG sequel. Here's word:
Starting today, you never ever have to say goodbye to Geralt of Rivia and
the gang, and a whole new world of high-level loot and enemies awaits to truly
bring out The Witcher in you. If you feel like you strolled through the game for
the story before, this is your chance to turn up the difficulty, stock up on
potions, memorise your signs, plan your attacks, and really feel the constant
pressure of a monster hunter's daily "routine". If you can call it that.
With last week's update introducing Mod Support for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt -
the possibilities for your next playthrough are just about endless.
PC Games Hardware has a report in their native German on compatibility
issues present in SafeDisc that prevent games using this form of copy protection
from running under Windows 10 (thanks
Rock, Paper, Shotgun). The most recent version of SafeDisc is from 2006, and
it is no longer in use, but it is still present in the many games that made use
of it during its heyday, so this will present problems for those looking to play
older games (such as Grand Theft Auto III and Battlefield 1942).
Here's a crude machine translation of an update to the German article: In
the meantime our request by Rovi Corporation (formerly Macrovision) was
answered. The SafeDisc copy protection is no longer supported accordingly for
several years, to the driver was no longer working for a long time accordingly.
At the latest in Windows 8 Microsoft would have to the existing software have
simply migrated. Whether the 10 no longer easily possible with Windows, or
whether one has just saved, is not known to us.
Blizzard offers a
reminder that the next patch for Heroes of the Storm (possibly coming
tomorrow) will include rewards for players who also own Diablo III,
as the Diablo hero will be a free reward and a Malthael's Phantom mount will be a
Season 4 incentive. Here's the deal: Immediately following the next Heroes
patch, any player with a Diablo III license on their Battle.net account will
receive the Diablo Hero in Heroes of the Storm for free. Simply log in to Heroes
of the Storm to claim the Lord of Terror and start unleashing hell on your foes.
Don’t wait though— this offer ends at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 8!
The cross-universe rewards don’t end there. Diablo III players who reach level
12 in Heroes of the Storm will also receive a unique pennant and portrait frame
in Diablo III for PC and Mac. In addition, reaching level 70 with a Seasonal
Hero in Season 4 and beyond gives you the shadowy Malthael’s Phantom mount in
Heroes of the Storm!
Here's a new trailer
from Tales from the Borderlands, celebrating tomorrow's release of Escape
Plan Bravo, the fourth chapter in Telltale's episodic adventure series. Here's
word: "In this penultimate episode of the season, captured by Vallory and her
goons, Rhys and Fiona are forced to continue the search for the Vault beacon -
at gunpoint. The beacon is on the Hyperion moon base - Helios - while our heroes
are on Pandora... so there's the pesky cold void of death known as 'space' to
overcome. Even with assistance from a familiar face, and with a worryingly
helpful Handsome Jack hitching a ride in Rhys' head, getting on board the
ominous 'H' is going to take every drop of guile, and quite possibly all the
spunk you've got. Sacrifices will be made - can you make the tough choices
needed to succeed?" Continue here to read the full story.
M4 Tank Brigade is now available
on Steam Early Access,
offering the chance to command a platoon of tanks in World War II combat in
single-player play or online multiplayer.
This trailer offers
a look, and here's a description: "M4 Tank Brigade focuses exclusively on
commanding multiple WWII armored vehicles in real time, with combat that takes
place on 3D battlefields spread over hundreds of square miles. Tank commanders
control their own platoon (four tanks) and up to a full battlegroup of 20
armored vehicles -- coordinating both air and artillery support. In a split
second, players can jump into any vehicle in their command net to turn the tide
of battle." Continue here to read the full story.
A new trailer from
Mad Max shows off Avalanche Studios' upcoming driving action game, offering a
"choose your path" branching function, though none of the choices you make
involve peaceful coexistence. It's also safe to say that none of the action
depicted would be considered under the top. Word is: "The trailer showcases
multipath scenarios that the viewer can choose, such as 'Bring the Chaos' and
'Get Creative,' that highlight options a player will have when navigating the
massive open world." Continue here to read the full story.

IMGN.PRO announces Seven, an upcoming Unreal-engine RPG in development at
Fool's Theory, the studio
recently
formed by former employees of CD Projekt RED. They offer mixed messages about
this, saying that it is inspired by Thief but also that it will "redefine the
genre. Either way, it seems safe to say that John Doe has the upper hand. The
game's gigantic website is online with
information and images, and here's part of what they have to say about the game:
As a lone traveler roaming the world of Empire of Vetrall, you'll be
constantly facing its cruelty and dual nature. The Apocalypse that took place
many centuries ago didn't wipe out all. Humanity or what's left of it, has
slowly recovered, but the shape and condition of this new world is far from what
it used to be. In this new reality Dark Ages are constantly intertwining with
the ancient advanced technology, and it doesn't make it any easier for those who
were lucky or unlucky enough to survive.
Seven is a Thief-inspired, 3D isometric RPG in which players will get a chance
to freely explore the sandbox world of Vetrall Empire. Set in a 'beyond
post-apocalyptic' environment the title will redefine the isometric RPG genre.
The classic gameplay is totally reinvented by the protagonist’s ability of
free-traversing obstacles on any height, both horizontally and vertically,
thanks to his parkour skills. The story created by the minds behind The Witcher
3: Wild Hunt, will be far from black and white. Lots of branching choices and
difficult moral decisions resulting in surprising plot twists, are to be
expected from this upcoming PC RPG fueled by Unreal Engine 4.
The
Terraria Community Forums announce that the OS X and Linux editions
of the sandbox platformer are now available (thanks
MCV). A new version 1.3.0.8 is now available for all platforms, and
cross-platform play between Windows, OS X, and Linux is supported. They have a
listing of known issues with this, and offer thanks to those who helped them get
this out the door, saying: "A quick note of thanks to all of our dedicated Open
Beta testers over the past few weeks - your hard work and patience has
absolutely made for a better and more stable version that everyone can now
enjoy."
Football Manager 2015 kicks The Sims 4 out of the top spot on the
GfK Chart-Track PC Top 30 of the bestselling PC games in the U.K. for the
week ending August 15th. There's a new sheriff on the
all platforms top 40, where LEGO Jurassic World blocks Grand Theft
Auto V out of the number one position. Here's
the summary: With
August proving to be a quiet month for new releases Warner Bros’ ‘Lego Jurassic
World’ (-8%) returns to the top to claim a third No1 crown.
‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-1%) climbs three places to No2. ‘The Elder Scrolls
Online’ (-21%) jumps a spot up to No3 forcing ‘Batman: Arkham Knight (-36%) down
to No4 for the first time since its launch 8 weeks ago. Meanwhile ‘FIFA 15’
(-16%) is also up a place to No5. Last week’s chart topper ‘Rare Replay’ (-71%)
slides to No6 while ‘Battlefield Hardline’ (-23%) is a non-mover holding No7 for
the third successive week.
‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-1%) creeps up to No8 just ahead of ‘Minecraft:
PlayStation Edition’ (4,420 / -4%), which also climbs two places to No9. ‘Dying
Light’ (+23%) continues an impressive week on week sales push with retailer
promotions propelling it back into the Top 10 at No10.
"As I said, I love Dead Island and I think there is a place
for both franchises to strive in the market. As long as someone would be able to
find something that would make them different, that would draw a clear line,
'Okay, here's Dead Island, here's Dying Light', and I think that's doable, then
why not?" --
Techland producer Tymon Smektala on whether they would consider working on Dead
Island 2.
Took the Gunnar-man on a walk to the local famer's market yesterday which turned
out to be ill-advised due to the heat, even though he's sporting his cool new
haircut. We were taking a break in a shady spot when a young girl with her
parents took an interest in our hot dog, eventually working up the nerve to pet
him. Then this little doll, who could not have been more than two, leaned in and
gave him a kiss on the mouth, which was about the cutest thing I've even seen.
After making best friends she gave him another kiss to say goodbye when it was
time to go, though I was too enchanted by it all to get a photo.
