Studio Wildcard announces the release of the ARK Dev Kit, a version of the
Unreal Engine 4 Editor specifically streamlined for the creation of
modifications for ARK:
Survival Evolved, their early access action/adventure. There are details
on the editor on the Ark
website, and
the announcement has additional news on a new "survival of the fittest" mod
which shows the power of the toolkit by adding a new game mode, as well as a
modding contest with a grand prize of $15,000 and an Alienware PC. Here's more:
To showcase the depth of the ARK Dev Kit, the Studio Wildcard team
created the competitive ‘Survival of the Fittest’ (SoTF) total conversion mod,
which is now available to download via Steam Workshop. Each SotF battle takes
place on a modified version of the ARK island, with the objective being to
eliminate all other survivors before they eliminate you! The map is surrounded
by a dome-shaped force field that shrinks as the match progresses, and leveling,
gathering, taming and building happen at a quicker rate. As the contestants
enter this arena, not only do they need to look out for the dangers from the
creatures and the other survivors, but also randomized ‘Evolution Events.’ These
events take place every 30 minutes and have major impact on the gameplay, from
freak weather occurrences, to dinosaurs dropping from the sky, extra supply
drops, day-to-night shifts, player location reveals, and more. Best of all, the
full source content for the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ mode is available within
the ARK Dev Kit, so aspiring mod creators can see how this game-changing “Total
Conversion” has been put together, and build on it or make their own!
DRAGO Entertainment announces that
Otherland will enter
Early Access on Steam on
August 26th and will be officially launched early next year. This will finally
offer the chance to check out this Unreal engine MMORPG based on the works of
author Tad Williams that was announced in
2008. The project has not been in development that entire time, however, as it
was purchased a couple of years ago from defunct developer RealU, and DRAGO says
it has been revamped along the way, even though it was never publicly vamped in
the first place. In their explanation of why they are going the Early Access
route, they promise this will be more polished than many such releases: Despite
being in Early Access, Otherland is one of the most advanced titles on the
service, a far cry from the Pre-Alpha Versions often put up for sale. Most of
the unique features – starting with the eDNA System that allows users to
"collect and clone" items and even NPCs up to the Housing and PVP systems – have
been fully implemented already. Other features, such as the extensive Clan Land
and Clan War Features are far along in development and will be added soon.
Further content updates such as new worlds filled with quests, additional
battlegrounds and minigames are planned for the upcoming months; all of these
features will be taking community feedback into account. Revenues derived from
Early Access will flow right back into development, allowing for additional time
to balance, optimize and polish the game before the intended Release in early
2016. "After two closed beta tests we decided against the traditional Open Beta
phase and instead opted to go Early Access on Steam because it allows us to
better involve the community in the polishing process", commented Lucjan
Mikociak, CEO of DRAGO Entertainment. "We have come a long way since taking on
the project nearly two years ago, and as a small independent developer we love
to communicate with our community and appreciate their feedback and ideas, as we
are determined to make sure that Otherland will not officially launch until it
is ready."

army is represented." They also offer images of a few new British Forces models

Diablo III website has
more on the changes coming to Diablo III in the upcoming version 2.3.0 patch for
Blizzard's action/RPG sequel. This previews new loot, including three new sets,
two reworked older sets, as well as new and updated legendary items for both the
main game and the upcoming season 4. Here's a bit on sets: We’ve added
three new sets and updated two old ones! In Patch 2.3.0, you’ll be able to adorn
your Crusader in the Seeker of the Light set, and unleash limitless Blessed
Hammers upon your enemies after descending upon them with Falling Sword. The
gods strike through your Monk’s Seven Sided Strike with Uliana’s Stratagem while
turning your enemies into living weapons with Exploding Palm. The Spirit of
Arachyr will let your Witch Doctor unleash the frightening potential of Hex and
Corpse Spiders as they ensnare and poison those who stand before you.
Some of the older sets have been updated as well! For instance, you can revisit
the Witch Doctor’s Helltooth Harness set to subjugate your foes with
debilitating necrosis, or wield the unbridled power of Archon when your Wizard
dons Vyr’s Amazing Arcana.

Kalypso Media announces a big anniversary sale on their titles is underway
through the Kalypso Launcher
as well as
Steam and the Mac App
Store where their games are up to 75% off. They celebrate the news by also
releasing a new playable demo
on Steam for Crookz -
The Big Heist, their 1970s heist game which is due for release later this
month. They note there's still time to get in on the game's preorder discount,
and there's an opportunity to compound this if you own other Kalypso titles,
which, bringing this all full circle, are currently on sale. Here's how this
works: To make this anniversary extra special, a free demo of our
upcoming tactical heist game, Crookz – The Big Heist, is now available
exclusively on Steam.
Steam users can test their heisting skills across the first four missions of the
game for free before the title launches globally on 25th August. Those who want
to go for “the big score” can take advantage of the Steam pre-purchase offer
here and receive 15% off
their pre-purchase, along with two bonus DLC items and the original digital
soundtrack.
To make the score even sweeter, Steam users can receive another 10% off their
pre-purchase (stackable, not compounded) if they already have Tropico 4, Tropico
5, Dungeons, Dungeons 2 or Omerta – City of Gangsters in their Steam library*.
Master tacticians may notice that the required Steam titles are discounted
during the Anniversary Sale and if planned right, the total saving would be a
steal.
Indie developer and publisher Psyonix announces the release of the Supersonic
Fury DLC for Rocket League, their motorized sports game. This follows
the patch to pave
the way for the new pack, and here's word on what this adds: "Dubbed "Supersonic
Fury," the new DLC introduces two new exclusive vehicles, "Dominus" the muscle
car and "Takumi" the Japanese street racer, plus several new Decals, Paint
Types, Rocket Boosts, Wheels, PlayStation® Trophies, and Steam Achievements."
The Witcher website announces
the release of the Modkit to support creating new and modified content for
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the RPG sequel. There's
an interview GameSpot with an unnamed employee of CD Projekt RED discussing
the news and the game's mod support. Here's the news: Released today, the
Modkit enables Witcher community to modify several aspects of the game to their
own liking. Thanks to texture import and export, gamers can now modify the looks
and feel of in-game objects, while the possibility of substituting meshes allows
to insert new models in the game world in place of existing ones. Finally,
access to script files opens up an entirely new array or modification options to
many in-game aspects, so modders can fire up their imagination and fiddle with
item statistics and much more. In order to download the Modkit, head on over to
nexusmods.com, the
official home of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt mods where you can download the
extractor itself as well as some of the exisiting mods. Don’t forget to check
our forums
for the Modkit documentation. We simply cannot wait to see all the fantastic
creations from the modding community. Should you have any additional questions
regarding the capabilities of the kit, make sure to check out
GameSpot's Q&A.
Preseason tackle football is underway, and the Giants play their first game
tonight against the Bengals. This will be a conflict for me, as this is opposite
the Mets game. The significance is that I can't remember the last time I had to
put even the slightest thought into deciding which team to watch, as the start
of preseason football is traditionally an opportunity for me to lament the Mets
already being long out of contention, so I am not complaining in the slightest.
