A new patch is now available for Galactic Civilizations III, updating
Stardock's space strategy sequel to version 1.2.
This forum post has all the
details on the new version, which adds the ability to share custom maps through
the Steam Workshop, the ability to 3D print your spaceships, AI improvements,
and more. The patch is accompanied by a DLC pack which adds new galaxy-wide Mega
Events, and this is free for Galactic Civilizations III Elite Founders and $4.99
for the unwashed masses. Here's word: Players have always been able to design their own ships, and now they can
bring those creations to life using 3D printing. With the single click of a
button players will be taken to a site where their submission will be evaluated,
and if the file conforms to standards players can complete the purchase of their
3D printed model. More details for the process are outlined in-game.
This update also allows players to share the maps they’ve created using Galactic
Civilizations III’s map generator. This user-generated content can add more
replayability as well as allow users to share their creations and game
experiences with their friends.
New DLC provides additional gameplay excitement with the addition of Mega
Events.
“Mega Events,” says Galactic Civilizations III designer Paul Boyer, “are
galactic events that shake up the game. You might be heading toward diplomatic
victory when suddenly a leader is assassinated. Maybe you’re trying for a
conquest victory when the Dread Lords return. Each event is an unexpected
incident that will require your skill and strategy to overcome if you hope to be
victorious. ”

We're getting rain around here this morning, and I don't mean a sprinkling, this
is a serious downpour. This may derail an adventure for the Gunnar-man, but I'm
looking at the bright side, which is that the area needs it, as we haven't
gotten a lot of rain lately at all. It's not like we're close to getting a
drought warning, but the whole
northeast is listed as "abnormally dry," so the deluge is helpful. For a real
drought, here's hoping the southwest gets some relief soon, as that's a pretty
large swath on that map painted with the "exceptional drought" color. Scary.
