Starbreeze and Lionsgate announce a partnership to create a VR first-person
shooter based on the John Wick movie franchise. They specify this will
come in spring 2016 to the HTC Vive, but add that "Starbreeze will be publishing
the product across multiple VR platforms." Here's word: The companies will
team to create a standalone, first-person shooter game based on the world and
characters of the John Wick films and centered around the infamous Continental
Hotel. In addition, Starbreeze will further integrate the John Wick storyline
into its wildly popular Payday game, which has over nine million players
worldwide, facilitating cross promotion and integration of the two games. John
Wick producer Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures and the movie's production
team will be collaborating closely with the WEVR and Grab teams for the
development of the VR game and experience.

Chris Roberts and Cloud Imperium Games are demonstrating Star Citizen at
Gamescom, showing off multiple players serving as crewmembers on a single ship
in the Arena Module in their upcoming space simulation.
PCGamesN reports on what they saw, saying: "Players can take the controls,
man turrets, and embark on space-walking missions of their own devising." They
also provide a video
so we can see this for ourselves, as it offers 13 minutes of gameplay footage.
They also offer these quotes from project lead Chris Roberts: "You’re not
going to have 50 systems to adventure in, but I think most people are going to
have a lot of fun," Roberts told PCGamesN. "I’m actually expecting people to
make up their own action story arc. So what we’re planning is, we’ll just have
different areas you can fly in and visit and do things in, or have some AI that
will spawn."
"I was thinking of something like what we call freeflight mode," said Roberts.
"And we’ll have some more team-oriented stuff where you could have a combination
of the bigger multi-crew ships and the smaller [ones]. A team battle thing. It
should be pretty good." Continue here to read the full story.
An
update on the Heroes of the Storm website highlights more on new
heroes and mounts coming to Blizzard's MOBA, including
a video with glimpses
of Kharazim and Rexxar in action. In
another update they announce plans to introduce dynamic bundles in the
future, which will offer discounts on bundles where the purchaser already owns
one or more of the included items (in their livestream today they also imply
those who have already made double purchases this way may end up with some sort
of refund or other compensation). Moving along, they
also announce plans to introduce a new placement system for Hero League in
the next patch, and will consequently be resetting everyone's rank (but not MMR).
They are also eliminating the separate Team League, and will simply be queuing
five-player teams separately in Hero League (saying they will never be matched
against smaller groups), but this will no longer require always having the same five
players. Last
but not least, this video
is from today's promised livestream for Heroes and Hearthstone, including a
first look at a support hero based on a StarCraft medic, and word on her and her
unique medivac ultimate ability ( shown
in the video here) has
been
added to this page: "Please state the nature of your medical emergency for
the Medic, a new ranged support Hero from the StarCraft universe that we just
revealed during our live broadcast at gamescom 2015! The Medic is gearing up to
report for duty in the Nexus, and bringing her trusty Medivac with her from the
Koprulu Sector. If you love lending a hand to your allies, and keeping your team
alive through a fight, then the Medic may be a good fit for you." Continue here to read the full story.
Blizzard announces the
third season in Diablo III will conclude on August 23rd, giving participants
some notice if they want to work on their ladder rankings. They also announce a
start date for Season 4, saying this will kick off on August 28th. They offer a
load of information on how this will work, saying: "If you haven't experienced
the end of a Season, there's a lot to know about what happens to your gear,
progress, and characters. Don't fret! We're here to give you a full overview of
what to expect and fill you in on the details of when the current Season will
end and the next one will begin."
The Heavy Gear Assault website
now offers early access for this upcoming e-sports focused mech combat game.
"This new phase of development has really energized our team, and we’re eager to
keep the momentum going full speed," explains John Nguyen, Marketing Director of
Stompy Bot Productions. "Our early supporters have been dying to share their
excitement with the world since it’s been underwraps, and we’re thrilled to see
more players join in and provide vital feedback as we gear up for our full
launch next year." Here's a bit on the game: In Heavy Gear Assault,
players venture to the distant planet Terra Nova and pilot giant, highly
customizable Gears. Featuring a range of dynamic combat, customizations,
gameplay modes and esport features, Heavy Gear Assault offers players a wealth
of gameplay that brings the Heavy Gear universe to life. Various gameplay modes
keep things fresh with advanced dueling in team battles, like the standard
Deathmatch and more strategic Brunes Ball.
Following a modular release strategy, the team behind Heavy Gear Assault plans
to implement all upcoming game features over a series of patches to Early Access
players. With the move, players are now able to share live streams, screenshots,
videos, and openly talk about the game.
Ghost Machine
website now offers downloads of a playable demo for Endless Dead,
Ghost Machine's upcoming twin-stick zombie shooter designed for virtual reality.
This requires a prerelease Oculus Rift headset, though the finished version of
the game will also be playable on HTC Vive headsets as well as desktop PCs. "We
could not be more excited to release this demo of Endless Dead to VR gamers
around the world," says Neal Nellans, CEO of Ghost Machine. "Seeing the growing
support of VR in the games community as a whole shows the promise for developers
who are taking the risk to focus on developing VR native games before the
hardware is commercially available."
The CD
Projekt RED forums announce the release of a new patch for The Witcher III:
Wild Hunt, updating the RPG sequel to version 1.08. Word is this introduces many
quest fixes as well as improvements in the gameplay mechanics. Here are the
patch notes: PERFORMANCE:
Overall improvements to performance, including some issues that may have been
caused by 1.07.
UI:
[Japanese Only][PS4 Only] Fixes an issue where the background text of certain
books would flicker.
Fixes an issue where part of the Kaer Morhen map would not display properly.
GAMEPLAY:
Fixes a rare issue where items would disappear from the stash.
Fixes a very rare issue which would cause Geralt to get stuck when trying to
run.
The interaction pop-up will no longer appear on lootable objects that are empty.
Fixes an occasional glitch in one of the dwarf combat animations.
Heads chopped off during finishers will no longer disappear.
"Players can perform a roll just before landing to significantly reduce the
damage caused by falling.
We've added a tutorial pop-up window explaining this to make it clearer."
In patch 1.07, the level requirements for certain items were scaled up, leaving
some players stuck with only unusable gear. With patch 1.08, we are introducing
the Wolven Hour potion. This potion will be available in everyone's inventory
once they install the patch. It will reduce level requirements on all gear for a
period of one hour. This will give players time to level up or find alternative
equipment using the gear that was available to them in patch 1.05 but became
unusable after patch 1.07. After one hour, the potion's effects will cease and
the requirements for all gear will revert to their original, pre-potion values.
Fixes an issue where players were unable to compare their items with ones sold
by merchants.

A new "Meet the Stars"
trailer from Blood Bowl 2 shows off the upcoming sequel that marries
the dark fantasy of NFL football with the violence of Warhammer. The clip shows
off the Star Player system, and here's an explanation of how this works:
The Star Players are the Superstars of Blood Bowl: skilled veteran
players who became true living legends thanks to their prowess in matches. Their
mere presence on the pitch makes the fans and spectators go utterly wild, while
casting fear into the heart of their opponents!
Star Players are incredibly talented, owning to decades of intense Blood Bowl
matches. They boast exceptional stats, higher than that of regular players,
along with extraordinary skills usually not available to normal players. This
deadly combination of stats and skills make them a force to be reckoned with on
the pitch, whether they focus on tricks (agility, secret weapons, or special
skills such has hypnotic gaze or throwing a teammate with the ball), or sheer
strength to beat the opponent team.
Matching their skillset, their hiring fee is also exceptionally high, and they
will only ever join your team for a single match. However, if you can spare the
Gold to afford hiring one (or even two!) of them, they will be worth the hiring
cost, as they might very well turn the tide of the match, all by
themselves.
A new trailer from
Games of Glory introduces the game's upcoming story, which is not always the
focus in a MOBA such as this. Word is that developer Lightbulb Crew plans to add
the persistent universe elements to the game next year, saying players' actions
will "influence both the future development of the game as well as the course of
history for lore and factions." Here's a bit on how this will work: Players
fight, embodying a powerful Clone, for their faction's influence within the
broader universe. Each victory or loss changes things, raising their notoriety
in the eyes of the Synarchy's - the dominant empire in the game's universe -
population.
These dynamic evolutions on the script will shape the game's content and include
announcements of new factions, introductions of new clones, armor and equipment
as well as game mode modifications. Continue here to read the full story.

International 2015. The match concludes with the announcement saying next week
Valve is adding the ability to have up to 24 players in custom games in Valve's

Valve is now
offering refunds for all owners of Journey Of The Light, an indie puzzle game
that was touted as being incredibly challenging upon release. After a user
posted an image with evidence suggesting
the game has only one level, the developer explained this was due to some files
being misnamed, but the fact remains that only one player (developer Lord Kres
himself) has received the achievements for completing any of the game's eight
levels, and he's only completed three. As
MCV notes, the developer promises a hint about other levels in the game's
first Steam Trading Card, but earning that would push the player's game time
past the two hour threshold to qualify for a refund, so now Valve has stepped
in, saying: We have enabled refunds for all owners of Journey of the
Light, regardless of playtime or purchase date. If you wish to receive a refund
for this title, please click the link below and follow the instructions on the
Support Site.

Farewell to Jon Stewart on his departure from The Daily Show. It was a
pretty memorable final episode, as they chose to highlight the incredible array
of talented contributors from over the years. Perhaps the funniest moment was
the contrast to all of their success when they had the comment from the
presumably embittered Craig Kilborn. Comedy gold.
