A
new trailer offers a
game-engine cinematic from
Total War: WARHAMMER, the upcoming
fantasy-themed installment in Creative Assembly's strategy series.
The descriptio0n explains what this shows off, promising a livestream with more
in two weeks:
This release is the first in a series of cinematic trailers
rendered in-engine, that will introduce the Legendary Lords of Total War:
WARHAMMER.
These renowned characters from the Warhammer Fantasy Battles world can be
selected in-game to lead the charge of conquest. Each has a unique range of
special abilities, weapons, armour, mounts and their own distinct narrative
quest chain.
In this trailer we meet Emperor Karl Franz, the revered leader of the Empire, as
he rallies his army of men and deadly imperial artillery in a famed battle
against a ravening horde of ferocious Greenskins.
The Battle of Black Fire Pass is one of Karl Franz’ unique quest battles in
Total War: WARHAMMER, and also formed the basis for this year’s E3 demo. You’ll
be able to watch the battle in its entirety, along with a developer walkthrough
in just two weeks’ time on Thursday 30th July.

Derek Smart - Interstellar Justice.
"Give backers the opportunity to hire an independent forensics
accountant, and an executive producer, to audit the company
records, and give an accurate picture of the financial health of the
company, and it’s ability to complete, and deliver this project in a timely
fashion. I hereby offer to foot the entire costs of this effort. And I will
put up to $1m of my own money, in an escrow account of an
attorney’s choosing, to be used as-needed for this exercise. I will pay this
price to prove that I had every right to seek these answers. So this money
can either go toward a good cause (righting this ship), or to attorneys who
are most likely to burn it all down anyway."
IGN spoke with Randy Pitchford at Develop: Brighton, and the Gearbox boss
revealed plans for a new
Brothers in Arms game, saying the new
installment in the military shooter series "has to be authentic and we have been
working on that." He says: "I feel we have unfinished business there with both
the fiction and the history and I’d like to get into that. I spend a lot of time
thinking about it." Similar to his
recent comments about
looking for assistance with the next Duke Nukem game, Randy says they are
looking for a partner for this one:
"Sadly it takes a lot of resources,
energy and money to do what must be done, so it’s not something I feel I could
completely do alone. I need good partners for it, so we’ve been talking to great
folks but it’s really putting all that together that’s the limiting factor. Once
we put all the partnerships together in terms of publishing, collaborators and
creatives, we can talk about it.
"I feel like I’m on the brink of it, but we’re not quite there yet. Once it
happens development will really take off and then sometime after that - if we
don’t completely kill ourselves - we’ll announce. But we’re in the incubation
phase with the next one there, for sure."
To respond to the steady flood of posts on the
Heroes of the Storm
Forums complaining of matchmaking problems, Blizzard has made
a statement
saying they've added a rule to the Quick Match matchmaker to help separate less
experience players from seasoned veterans. There are a couple of responses in
the thread from the same Blizzard community manager to other questions this has
raised.
One
says they also have some changes in store for ranked Hero League play, but
they have nothing to share right now. They also say they are "definitely hearing
feedback" about requests for new rules to fine-tune Quick Match team composition
based on classes, but they don't sound as concerned about this as they are about
experience imbalances: "We're definitely hearing feedback similar to yours, how
team compositions in Quick Match need improvement. I don't have any new
information to share on this today, though." With apologies to Bill Maher,
here's word on the new rule:
To help address this, we’ve created an
additional rule for matchmaking in Quick Match that will take each player’s
total number of Quick Match games played into account when creating teams. This
rule has already been implemented, and we expect that you, your allies, and even
your opponents, will now be matched more closely in terms of Quick Match
experience.
The new rule will not prevent all instances in which new players can be matched
with veterans. As an example, this can still occur when a party’s members have
mixed levels of Heroes of the Storm experience. Additionally, this change may
result in increased Quick Match queue times as the matchmaker searches for
players with a similar number of games played to your own.
A
new video from
TotalBiscuit has some cynicism about framerates from the cynical Brit,
noting the large number of games on Steam capped at 30 frames-per second,
generally a trickle down from games designed for less-powerful console systems.
This has inspired the creation of
The
Framerate Police, a new Steam group dedicated to eliminating this scourge
from PC gaming, or at least raising awareness of the problem. This is sort of
the reverse of the traditional Steam curation, listing games to avoid due to
this issue, though they also helpfully list workarounds where available to
unlock the framerate, and report on possible problems such unlocks might cause.

There have been a couple of local news reports lately about drownings following
boating accidents. Before the stories even got to it, I knew that the victims
were not wearing life preservers, as I spent a few summers as a camp lifeguard
and swimming & boating instructor, and I know a little about the topic. A proper
personal floatation device will keep a victim afloat and face up even if they
are knocked unconscious, which can happen all too easily when a small boat
capsizes. The bottom line here is that I am a better swimmer than most,
and have forgotten more boating safety rules than most people ever learn, and I
never enter a small boat or canoe without a Type I or Type II life preserver. I
highly recommend this policy to anyone planning any recreational boating.
