BANDAI NAMCO announces Supernova will enter closed beta testing on July
23rd, offering more players access to this upcoming MOBA, so those interested in
participating should sign up on the
Supernova website. Word is they will also be releasing the promised reward
for alpha participants: Along with the game going into Closed Beta,
Supernova will be releasing their teased Alpha Reward, the fierce commander,
B.R.O.
Battle Robot Operations was a private company started for the sole purpose of
selling robotic defense units during the Gliesan Civil War. One of their least
popular models was the GTL-360, a mid to close range unit with a powerful, arm
mounted sword. Soon, the company was forced to close, and Battle Robot
Operations units everywhere were discarded for newer, better models. Sometime
later, a discarded GTL-360 unit rebooted itself and awoke on the junkyard moon
of Carrion. Unable to recall anything about its past or its purpose, the robot’s
only clue was a branding of letters on the inside of its arm, which it took to
be its name: B.R.O.
In his search to discover his purpose, B.R.O. found a pre-recorded human
hologram datastem from the Lunacy Ninety Day Workout Program who yelled, “Are
you ready to find the REAL you, bro?!” Ecstatic that the human knew him by name,
B.R.O. became a dedicated disciple of his teacher's program for over 40 years
until he was picked up by a group of scavengers.
Along with the new commander B.R.O., Closed Beta will also include a new
unannounced commander, five new commander skins, two new force skins and new
profile icons.
A
post to the RSI Community Forums from Ben Lesnick addresses the question of
whether Cloud Imperium will offer refunds for other Star Citizen
customers following the
news that they'd refunded the pledge of Derek Smart due to his outspoken
criticism of the space game's crowdfunding. He says: "We refunded Mr. Smart’s package
because he was using Star Citizen as a platform to gain attention as part of a
campaign to promote his ‘Line of Defense’ space game." Smart disputes this to
PC Invasion, saying that he's never posted to their website and calling the post "pure
libel." For those looking to get a refund by getting Smart with them, Lesnick
adds a warning: "that is not to say you can get your money back by simply being
as obnoxious as possible; we’re also able to ban accounts from the forums
without requiring a refund." Here's the post: I believe I can clarify
this. We refunded Mr. Smart’s package because he was using Star Citizen as a
platform to gain attention as part of a campaign to promote his ‘Line of
Defense’ space game. Our ToS (or in this case, the Kickstarter ToS) allows us to
refund troubled users who we would rather not have interacting with the
community. The process lets us entirely disable their accounts, preventing them
from playing the finished game. Think of it as the video game equivalent of a
‘we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone’ sign in a restaurant. We’ve
used this ability a limited number of times in the past, always with the aim of
improving the community (until today, the most famous example being our old
friend jcrg99/Manzes/PonyMillar/he of many other alts.)
I do now want to stress that that is not to say you can get your money back by
simply being as obnoxious as possible; we’re also able to ban accounts from the
forums without requiring a refund. But sometimes we take a look at a user and
decide that they’re so toxic or their intentions are so sinister that we simply
don’t want them associated with Star Citizen.
As for refund requests working the other way: per the ToS, we’re not required to
offer them. We do try and work with backers who are facing hardships, but the
hard truth is that the money is by necessity being spent to develop a game
rather than sitting unused somewhere (that being the significant difference with
Steam; those refunds are taken out of their games’ profits rather than their
development budgets.)
Steam News announces
the release of Guild of
Dungeoneering, offering a look at the virtual card-based game's hand-drawn
style in this
launch
trailer. Here's word: "Guild of Dungeoneering is a turn-based dungeon
crawler with a twist: instead of controlling the hero you build the dungeon
around him. Using cards drawn from your Guild decks you lay down rooms,
monsters, traps and of course loot!" Continue here to read the full story.
Early Access to Hydraulic Empire is now available
on Steam, offering the
chance to play this tower defense game before its official release. Word is:
"Hydraulic Empire is a Tower Defense game with RPG elements focusing on
strategy, interactions between mobs, and persistent upgrades. What we are doing
with Hydraulic Empire is taking the best of what we have experience over the
years, and then we are adding elements that are unique."
There's a new FAQ on the
Star Wars Battlefront website with more details on DICE's upcoming
Star Wars action game. Though split screen multiplayer support is more
applicable to console gaming, there will be some PC gamers disappointed to learn
that this feature will not be part of the Windows edition of the game. They do
not explain why, simply stating: "Split-screen will be available for PlayStation
4 and Xbox One only." They also note that the Y-Wing will not be flyable. Why
ask why? Well, if you did, here's the explanation: "Y-wings are non-player
controlled vehicles. They are a support vehicle that you can call into battle
within certain game modes." Thanks

Jagex announces 10-player raids are coming to RuneScape, their
venerable MMORPG. Participation requires being a
premium RuneScape member,
and while there are no level requirements, they recommend this for participants
at high combat levels with top-end gear. Here's more: The first of
RuneScape's Raids – The Liberation of Mazcab – is now yours to conquer.
To start, join a group of up to 10 players in the Grouping System, and select
'The Liberation of Mazcab'. Then, head north to the magical barrier between the
two goebies, and enter to get started.
You'll venture through an instanced area, using your teamwork and combat skill
to make it to two bosses: the cruel Beastmaster Durzag and the mighty water
elemental Yakamaru. Even reaching them will take teamwork and skill, and it'll
take everything you've got to defeat them.
There are also Raid Feats – special acts of daring for the bravest and craziest
raiders to aspire to. There are five per boss, and completing all of them
unlocks the Daredevil title.
These are some of the most challenging encounters ever seen in RuneScape, so
you're on your own from here. We're really excited to see you get to grips with
them.
Here's a new trailer

of the Storm! Check out his abilities, skins, and playstyle in this hero
spotlight video." Thanks

Smart
Speak - Interstellar Discourse. The previous million word article was
just a preamble. Thanks KXmode.
"From everything that we have uncovered thus far, it is our belief that
the game, Star Citizen, as of this writing, has all the makings of a
crowd-funding failure, and an unmitigated disaster. A disaster which,
if, and when it happens, and everything eventually comes out, is likely to
be the most shocking event in recent gaming memory, which threatens to
eclipse even the 38 Studios collapse of 2012."

Happy Bastille Day! I had an advance reminder of the occasion
yesterday when walking the Gunnar-man, as we passed a house flying the French
flag. Not sure why it was up a day early, but it was a nice touch. Let them eat
cake!
