Steam News announces
a free weekend is now underway for
Etherium, though they
are underselling what is actually a free full week of play in the real-time
strategy game, as it runs from now until the middle of Sunday. Here's word: Etherium
is a real-time strategy game set in a science-fiction universe, where three
factions battle it out for a mysterious and rare resource known as ‘Etherium’.
Manage your resources, develop your base, and take command of infantry, tanks,
aircraft, and gigantic colossi of war to battle not only your foes, but weather
anomalies and mysterious secondary factions in richly strategic and original RTS
gameplay. In the single player Conquest mode, develop your technological
capabilities and expand your colonies over the furthest sectors of space,
assembling a formidable armada.
A new version of Survivor Squad: Gauntlets is now available
on Steam, updating the
top-down strategy shooter with several changes, including the addition of Steam
Workshop support. Word is this "lets players create their own Sprites, Items and
Sounds to use in their Gauntlets and share them with the Community or build
Packs that others can download and use in their Gauntlets." They have also
released a playable demo for the game, though they offer no details on its
contents. They celebrate the news with a sale on the game, which is 30% off for
the next week.
- Zombie Party is now available
on Steam through
Early Access, offering a top-down action/RPG shooter with throwback
graphics…

This video offers an
announcement of Five Nights at Freddy's 4, the next installment in the
pizza-fuelled jump-scare series (thanks
Eurogamer). The word was apparently passed along to the YouTube streamers
who are so integral to the game's success, hence a hypercaffeinated three minute video to cover a one-paragraph statement. Here's
the announcement itself for those in a hurry: I'm going to release Five
Nights at Freddy's 4 on August 8th for the 1-year anniversary of Five Nights at
Freddy's. To keep the Halloween date special however, I'll be working on a free
update with extra content to release October 31st. I also plan on having a
trailer ready for next weekend. Continue here to read the full story.
EA announces that
Jade Raymond has joined EA to open a new studio in Montreal, Canada called
Motive. Patrick Söderlund states "Motive will be a creative-driven team,
incubating entirely new IP, and developing stunning action experiences for our
players," though in a separate blog
post Raymond reveals their first project is to work closely with
BioWare Montreal on Mass Effect: Andromeda says they "will work
in close quarters with the BioWare team" (apologies for originally erroneously
interpreting this as saying they were working on the game). She also reveals another of her
responsibilities will be to oversee Visceral Games, currently working on a Star
Wars game. She says: "Getting back to what I love about making games, creating a
new studio, working alongside world-class developers, ideating new IP and being
a part of Star Wars...this is going to be fun!" Raymond announced she was
leaving Ubisoft last October, where
she helped launch the Assassin's Creed and Watch_Dogs series and
established their Ubisoft Toronto studio.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata died of complications related to cancer on
Saturday at the age of 55,
Nintendo reports today. He had returned to work shortly after having a
growth removed from his bile duct last June, but his condition declined rapidly
over the past few days. The death leaves uncertainty about succession, and word
is the company's next CEO will be faced with the challenge of completing
Nintendo's belated entrance into the mobile market. Condolences to Iwata-san's
family, friends, and many fans. A
post on Kotaku (thanks nin) has industry reactions to the news.
This trailer shows
off two game tie-ins for Heroes Reborn, the upcoming reboot of the superhero TV
series. They bust out their caps lock to announce HEROES REBORN: Enigma for
mobiles and HEROES REBORN: Gemini for Windows, OS X, and Consoles. The clip
offers a look at both games, which are introduced in this announcement:
Imperative Entertainment released the first trailer for HEROES REBORN:
Gemini (console/PC/Mac) and HEROES REBORN: Enigma (smartphone/tablet) -- two
games connected with the upcoming "HEROES REBORN" TV series. The trailer gives a
glimpse into the dark world of the "HEROES" universe as well as the incredible
powers fans and players can expect to wield in the game.
The trailer was shown this afternoon during the "HEROES REBORN" panel at San
Diego Comic-Con.
Expanding on the television story arc of "HEROES REBORN," HEROES REBORN: Gemini
is a next-generation first-person adventure PC/console game that brings players
into the dangerous world of Cassandra, a young woman who is determined to solve
the mysteries of her past while discovering her new powers. The first-person
action-puzzle mobile game, HEROES REBORN: Enigma, follows Dahlia, an evolved
human with incredible powers, as she attempts to escape captivity at a secret
government facility called The Quarry.
HEROES REBORN: Gemini and HEROES REBORN: Enigma feature two different stories
from "HEROES" creator and "HEROES REBORN" Executive Producer Tim Kring. While
the games can be played separately, they share key characters, plot points, and
gameplay dynamics, welcoming newcomers and fans to the "HEROES" universe and
creating a richer experience for those who play both. Continue here to read the full story.
This video
shows off footage of the next installment in the Hitman series. The video is
pretty low-resolution and looks like ass, which is explained by the banner
stretched across the center saying: "UNRELEASABLE SEQUENCE May contain
placeholder assets & material requiring legal clearance." Those willing to put
up with the glitchy appearance of the clip will get to see Agent 47 take out
victims, wear disguises, and set sneak around, so basically it's like watching a previous
installment in the series without your glasses. Thanks
All Games Beta.
Rockstar has responded to performance issues that
were reported after the release
of the new patch with part two of the
ILL-GOTTEN GAINS update for Grand Theft Auto V. They don't offer any
solutions, yet, but
this
post from last week (thanks
reddit via
PCGamesN) says they are looking into things: Question: After updating
GTAV to 1.28 on PC, I’m noticing considerably lower framerate. Is this issue
being looked into?
Answer: We have received reports of lower framerate in GTAV and GTA Online after
Title Update 1.28 on PC, and we are looking into these reports now. If you would

F1 2015 debuts at number two on the
GfK Chart-Track PC Top 30 chart for game sales in the U.K. for the week
ending July 11th, while The Sims 4 retains its stranglehold on the top
spot. The new racing game launches at number one on the
all platforms chart, knocking Batman: Arkham Knight into the number
two spot. Here's their
summary of the new activity: ‘F1 2015’ knocks ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’
off its perch to claim the first All Formats No1 for the Codemasters F1 series
since ‘F1 2010’ in week 38 2010.
Distributed by Namco Bandai, who recently had chart topping success with another
driving game, ‘Project Cars’, launch week sales of ‘F1 2015’ are up by 367%
compared to last year’s F1 title, with it launching on PS4 and Xbox One for the
first time (and not Xbox 360 and PS3). Sales of ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ are down
by 54% in its third week since launch, but it still manages second in the chart
ahead of ‘Lego Jurassic World’ (-28%) which also drops one place, down to No3.
There is not much movement amongst the rest of the Top 10 with ‘The Elder
Scrolls Online’ (-33%) down one place to No4 and ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+5%)
stuck at No5. At No6, ‘The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’ (-18%) stays ahead of the
Minecrafts with both Xbox (+6%) and Playstation (+12%) versions looking solid at
No’s 7 and 8 respectively. Activision round off the Top 10 with ‘Call of Duty:
Advanced Warfare’ (+5%) at No9 and ‘Destiny’ (+7%), up one place to No10.
Retailer summer sales give a selection of titles a small boost with ‘Disney
Infinity 2.0’ (+59%) benefiting in particular, up from No26 to No13.
A new trailer from
Call of Duty: Black Ops III shows off The Giant, a bonus map included in the
Collector's Editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, a recreation of another
zombie map. Word is: "Zombies returns in all of its undead glory with 'The
Giant,' a Nazi research facility featuring the weapon upgrading Pack-A-Punch
Machine. Re-live the chaos of Treyarch's classic 'Der Riese' Zombies map,
picking up the Zombies story with Dempsey, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo where
Origins left off." Continue here to read the full story.
As major league baseball hits the all star break, the annual celebration of the
season hitting the 57% mark (halfway would be so OCD). I have to salute the Mets
for exceeding expectations up to this point, as their 47-42 record is good for
second place. You have to admire that they can win without being able to score
runs, but when you play in a small market like New York and can only afford the
21st highest payroll in the league, you have to be plucky.
