A new major patch is now available for Terraria, updating the
side-scrolling sandbox to version 1.3 with new content, new features, and
various improvements. An update on
the
Terraria website has all the details: It has been a long road - one
full of sleepless nights and tiring nights, laughter and tears, successes and
setbacks - but the time has finally come for us to turn our labor of love for
the past year or so over to you, our loyal fans. Terraria 1.3 touches on many
aspects of the game - from re-imagined sprites and backgrounds to new features
and - of course - the new content that you crave - that we truly feel it
refreshes and revitalizes the entire Terraria experience. We are confident that
you will enjoy what it has to offer!
Perhaps most exciting to the team are the ways in which Terraria 1.3 streamlines
the multiplayer experience. Gone are the days of port-forwarding and endless IP
sharing for anyone seeking to connect quickly with their friends for an
ore-hunting session or to team of up that tough boss fight. We have always felt
Terraria was best with a buddy (or ten) - so if you haven't yet, now is an
opportune time to try out multiplayer! (Do note that dedicated servers will
still need to use the standalone server software, which you can download
HERE).

Today's scheduled maintenance for Heroes of the Storm in North America
concluded sooner than projected, and Blizzard's MOBA is once again online,
offering the first installment in the Diablo-themed Eternal Conflict update,
including a new map and the playable Butcher character. The
Patch Notes outline all the changes. Here's word on the new map: The
conflict between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells has spilled into the
Nexus, breeding a new Battleground that is equal parts righteous and wicked.
Angels, Demons, and now Heroes clash in ceaseless combat in their struggle for
dominance over the Battlefield of Eternity.
- Battlefield of Eternity is a two-lane Battleground
featuring two massive Immortals that battle endlessly at its center, and
teams must compete to defeat the opposing Immortal.
- Once its foe has been toppled, the victorious
Immortal will be restored to full Health, and proceed to seek out enemy
Structures, attacking down the lane with the most remaining defenses.
- An attacking Immortal will also gain a Shield,
proportionate to the amount of Health it had remaining at the end of the
battle.
- The Immortal will perform ranged attacks, which
each consume a portion of its Shield. Taking damage will also drain the
Immortal’s Shield.
- Once its Shield has been expended, the Immortal
will only attack at melee range.
The WB Games Montréal Jobs Board
has listings for a positions to work on a "new open world IP." This was spotted
by
GameSpot, where they note that the reference to a new IP casts doubt on
assumptions that this studio would continue to develop titles in the Arkham
series for alternating for alternating annual releases with Rocksteady's games.
The details indicate this unannounced game will be a cross-platform title using
the Unreal engine.
The Heroes
of the Storm forums announce that the play test realm is now closed as
they are right now in the midst of launching the new
Eternal Conflict
update for the MOBA. Word is: Once the PTR closes, you will no longer
be able to log in to the test realm until our next PTR phase. Thank you all very
much for taking some time to give the PTR a spin during the past week. Your
feedback and bug reporting have been very helpful.
A
CodeWeavers blog post has post from around E3 announcing plans to bring
DirectX 11 support to their CrossOver software that allows Windows emulation on
Linux and OS X computers, which will probably also eventually find its way into
the open-source WINE (thanks
Linux Today via
PC World via Ant). Here's word on the plan where they talk about the games
shown off at E3: How do these games impact Mac and Linux users? Well,
they don't. That's the rub in all of this. Most of these games are PC only.
However, you might still be able to play these titles on your Mac or Linux
computer when they are released later this year using CrossOver. In the coming
months, CodeWeavers will have support for DirectX 11; better controller support;
and further improvements to overall GPU performance. While these incremental
improvements for game support may seem small (at first), the cumulative
improvements for game support will allow for many of these games to 'just run'
when released. And when more games 'just run' in CrossOver, it won't matter if
you're battling against Thor or Apollo using a PC, a Mac, or a Linux computer.
I was playing online with MrKawfy last night when I stated experiencing
intermittent little Internet hiccups. These didn't last more than a few seconds
at a time, but they came every half-hour or so and caused me to disconnect from
the game and Skype at the same time. This behavior is what was fixed when I had
the Internet doctor make a house call about five
weeks ago, but it's not clear yet if I have another problem that needs
repairing, or if this was just a temporary issue that will clear up by itself.
I'm hoping for the latter, but suspecting the former.
