Paradox Interactive reveals White March is the name of the first expansion for
Pillars of Eternity, offering details on Part 1 of the add-on. Here's
an announcement trailer,
and here's the announcement: Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox
Interactive today revealed the name and the first details of an expansion to
Pillars of Eternity, the role-playing game (RPG) funded by over 70 thousand
backers. The expansion, titled “The White March: Part 1,” will extend the story
and experience of Pillars of Eternity, as well as adding a higher level cap, new
multi-class abilities, new companions including the rogue and monk
, a new party based AI system, and much more to the game. The expansion,
originally offered as a pledge add-on during the game’s incredibly successful
crowdfunding campaign, was revealed by Obsidian and Paradox at E3, and will be
coming soon for Windows, Max, and Linux PC.
A trailer for The White March: Part 1 is visible here, with a glimpse of what is
coming next to the world of Eora:
“The response to Pillars of Eternity has been incredible,” said Feargus
Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. “We knew, when we started work on the
game following our crowdfunding campaign, we had the potential to create the
kind of game world we’d want to visit again and again for a very long time. The
White March is just the second step in our own long campaign to bring more and
more of the Pillars of Eternity world to life, but with us always making sure we
live up to the faith our fans have placed in us.”
“Our partnership with Obsidian couldn’t have started on a higher note than with
Pillars of Eternity,” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “It was
clear to us, from the beginning, that Obsidian had a deep connection to their
fans, and with the tremendous success of Pillars of Eternity, there’s no doubt
in our mind that they understand what players want from an RPG. We’re looking
forward to working with their team for a long time to come.”
Pillars of Eternity is an RPG inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate,
Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, featuring an original world and game
system that evokes and improves upon the traditional computer RPG experience.
The first expansion, originally offered to fans as a pledge add-on during a
crowdfunding campaign, will continue the game’s rich story and expand upon its
detailed, original world. Named “The White March: Part 1,” the expansion will
also raise the in-game level cap and let players meet new companions, unlock new
abilities, and meet new challenges in their own unique manner. Continue here to read the full story.

The Battlezone website reveals that
Rebellion has plans for a new game in the Battlezone series after picking up the
IP a
couple of years ago in an Atari fire sale (thanks
Rock,
Paper, Shotgun via nin). The
Official E3 Reveal Trailer
shows off the history of the series that started as a wireframe arcade shooter before
spawning action/strategy hybrids, and highlights the original game's VR
legacy. The new game will support VR, as the announcement notes the PS4 version
will support the Project Morpheus headset. This is currently planned for PC and
PS4, with other platform announcements will follow. Here's word: Independent
UK developer Rebellion reveals its stunning reboot of Battlezone at the E3 show
floor. Designed for the next generation of virtual reality devices, Battlezone
(working title) delivers intense first-person tank warfare across gorgeous neon
landscapes, combining the instant adrenaline of the arcade with a deeper
tactical challenge. Powered by Rebellion's next-gen Asura engine, Battlezone is
confirmed for Sony's Project Morpheus on PlayStation 4 and for PC. Other
platforms are to be confirmed.
Battlezone is a bold homage to Atari's classic 1980 arcade game, widely regarded
as the forefather of virtual reality gaming with its distinctive periscope
display. 35 years on, Rebellion directors Jason and Chris Kingsley are thrilled
to reignite the beloved series for a new generation of players:
"When the original Battlezone came out in 1980 - long before we were developing
games - Chris and I were among the many who made up its loyal arcade following,"
said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. "When we acquired the Battlezone rights two
years ago we almost had to pinch ourselves! It really was a dream come true, so
it's our aim to deliver the same revolutionary thrill of the original for a
whole new generation. We want to use VR to truly capture the imagination of
today's gamers, just as the original Battlezone captured ours." Continue here to read the full story.
The Hitman
website announces HITMAN, a new installment in the assassination series
coming to Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on December 8th. The back to
basics title reflects "the start of a new journey" that developer IO Interactive
insists is not a reboot, but will offer some new twists, including elements of
a connected online experience. Here's word on that: "Imagine a target appearing
for every player in the world, for a limited time only… let’s say 48 hours.
Where your one shot counts. And when that target is gone, it is gone forever. A
shared experience where we imagine the HITMAN community will come together every
time a new mission or new location appears. For $60 you’ll get full access to
all of this content – everything we release as part of this story." The plan
includes eventual beta access for preorders on PC and PS4. They offer
an announcement trailer
and promise a gameplay video today at the Square Enix press conference. Here's
word: So what is this new game? Well first off HITMAN is still a creative
stealth action game, featuring the greatest assassin out there, Agent 47. As an
operative of the International Contract Agency, his job is to take out
high-profile targets all over the world, supported by his long-time handler
Diana Burnwood. Each location in the game is a living sandbox, a place where
every NPC has a name and every room matters. We’ve focused on making sure you,
the players, have complete freedom of approach over how, where and when you
decide to take out your target. Creativity from players is fully expected, you
have the power and intelligence of Agent 47 at your fingertips and it is your
choice whether to use brute force or orchestrate a genuine masterpiece of
assassination.
Locations are more detailed, more populated and much larger than ever before,
full of things to experiment with and targets to kill without any checkpoint
systems in there. Contracts mode, which we’ll talk more about later in the year,
returns and really shines in these big sandboxes. We’ve brought back save games,
so you can save your progress anywhere, and we have revamped pretty much every
system in our Glacier engine to enable this HITMAN experience. We promised you
these things a while back and we’re sticking to them because they are important
– and because your feedback is important. In fact, it’s so important we’re
taking things a step further. Continue here to read the full story.
