image that's also found on the SHADOW

another tweet to tease an upcoming continuation of the first-person shooter

Further incentive to back
the
Kickstarter for The Bards Tale IV comes from inXile Entertainment, as they
promise all who back the project at the $20.00 level or above free copies of the
first three games in the series. The campaign to fund a new installment in the
RPG series is cruising along as it is, having achieved well over 90% of its
$1.25 million goal with 30 days remaining. Here's word on the offer:
Today inXile Entertainment is proud to announce that the original The
Bard’s Tale, The Bard’s Tale II: The Destiny Knight and The Bard’s Tale III:
Thief of Fate will be given FREE to all backers of the currently ongoing The
Bard’s Tale IV Kickstarter for any pledges to tier $20 or higher.
The original trilogy will be released to backers after the Kickstarter has
successfully funded as emulated versions of the classic games. However, inXile
Entertainment also has an agreement in place with the original The Bard’s Tale
III programmer Rebecca “Burger” Heineman to work on updated versions of the
three games based on their Apple IIGS versions, to run natively on modern
Windows and Mac PCs. Once she delivers on the enhanced versions, they too will
be given free to backers.
“It’s pretty amazing to see how far the graphics have come since these first
games and it’s fun to think that people will still be playing these classics
decades after release. These games made my career so it’s only fitting that we
are doing another game.” said Brian Fargo, CEO. “Of course playing them will not
be necessary to understand the new title, but we wanted to give our backers the
opportunity to and are always happy to give our supporters some free extra
value!”

Dice Insights - Is Stress Driving Tech Pros From Video Games? Thanks
Slashdot via Ant.
“The oft-used practice of quickly building up development teams and then
laying off the majority when the project is complete isn’t conducive to a
positive quality of life for individual game developers,” Kate Edwards,
executive director of the IGDA, admitted, “even if the overall industry
continues to see growth.”
Faced with what many perceive as draconian working conditions, many
developers are taking their skills and leaving video games for another
technology sector. As Edwards noted, “People who opt to leave the game
industry have a lot of options where their skills can be utilized.
Programmers and software engineers easily find jobs at a wide range of
IT-related companies.”
There's a special annex in technology hell for the dreaded "known issue." You
know, those wonderful moments when we encounter an bug, and find out that other
users have been reporting the same problem for years, but never enough of them
to actually inspire the company responsible to address the cause. Yesterday in
adding an album I accidentally pointed iTunes (a piece of software that
qualifies as an annex of tech hell in and of itself) towards my full music
library, rather than the subset I keep on my phone, which led to iTunes
complaining there was not enough room on my phone for all of it. That was all it
took to trigger an issue that has plagued users for years, as the phone
allocated the space for the update, and then orphaned that data, leaving the
music library empty and the phone thinking it was full. No amount of manipulation
of the phone or where iTunes was looking for music would clear this up, and
there are numerous posts spanning years from other users frustrated by this
problem. This has never inspired a response or a solution from Apple, but one
post pointed the way to a third-party program called
iMazing (formerly DiskAid) which finally saved
me by allowing the deletion of the corrupted music files. This was a relief, as
the next solution I was going to attempt was to see if
smashing the phone with a sledgehammer would help, which may have involved
paying royalties to Gallagher.
Oh yeah, and Cutter asked if I was worried I was going to "jinx" the Mets by
talking about their relative success.
But
what are the chances that would immediately happen?
