Archived News:
This trailer
purportedly shows footage from Division 9, a co-op zombie shooter
cancelled years ago by Irrational Games (thanks
DSOGaming). This was actually posted in 2010 the day after we
learned about the project, and it seems to be part of Game Informer's
coverage at the time that went unnoticed. The clip begins with the Irrational Games logo, and the
following introduction: "Hey, this is Ken Levine, Creative Director at
Irrational Games, and we've got this little video here of a game that we never
actually shipped called Division 9. It sort of predated the zombie games that
you're seeing now, and I think of all the games at the studio that we wish we
had done, this is the one. So check it out, we never made it, but we kind of
wish we did." Continue here to read the full story.

The Team Fortress 2
website announces the launch of a beta Maps Workshop for the multiplayer
shooter. Here's how this works: Are you great at making fun, addictive
TF2 maps? Do you have no idea how to make a map, but you like playing on them?
Are you only vaguely aware of what maps are and prefer to just walk in a single
direction until you find what you're looking for? Introducing the Maps Workshop
Beta, a place for all three of you to upload, enjoy or just learn about the
existence of maps!
The Maps Workshop Beta is an in-development one-stop hub where mapmakers can
instantly upload and get feedback on their maps. Simply head over to the in-game
Workshop tool and click on the new Maps button. If you're just in the market to
play new maps, you can now browse the Maps Workshop and up-vote and subscribe to
maps you like—or just connect to a server running a Workshop map and it will
download automatically from the Workshop.
And remember, this is a Beta that we'll be working to improve. The TF2 team is
incredibly appreciative of your feedback.
Wargaming has implemented an all-new Domination gameplay mode in
World of Tanks, their free-to-play
armored combat game (thanks Krovven).
This page has all the details on how this works, along with a new
Domination Mode trailer.
Here's the elevator pitch: "Domination mode tasks you with destroying tanks or
capturing and delivering flags to your base. Friendly fire is off, plus repair
points can heal you and replenish ammo, and if you're destroyed, you can respawn
in a matter of moments." Continue here to read the full story.

The NHL finals get underway tonight, so congrats to the Lightning and Blackhawks
on being the last two teams eligible for Lord Stanley's cup. Naturally I'm
saddened that the Rangers did not secure a return to the finals, as I really
thought this was their year, but it was not meant to be, and the team deserves
its vacation after such a poor effort in the third period of game seven with
everything on the line. I wonder if they will be able to continue to contend
with this group, as Henrik Lundqvist is not getting any younger, and at some
point the window he's provided them will close. Anyway, back to the non-chokers,
hats off to the Blackhawks and Lightning.
