UbiBlog
announces closed beta testing for Might & Magic Heroes VII begins
tomorrow for those who have preordered the turn-based strategy sequel. This is
almost identical to an announcement they made
a couple of weeks
ago for a beta test that should be underway right now, so the plan seems to
have suffered an undisclosed setback
as they subsequently announced that testing would be delayed (thanks

Natsume announces Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, saying this will be

Digital Extremes and n-Space announces plans to launch the Linux and OS X
editions of Sword Coast Legends simultaneously with the Windows version
in Q3 of this year, and that the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons RPG will support
cross-platform network play between all three systems. Here's the deal:
“For far too long, passionate and dedicated Mac and Linux RPG gamers have
been left out in the cold, forced to watch from the sidelines as the industry
focused efforts on just a select few platforms. That ends today,” said Dan Tudge,
President of n-Space and Director for Sword Coast Legends. “With Sword Coast
Legends, we are dedicated to delivering exactly the sort of classic, D&D, RPG
gaming experience fans on every platform have been clamoring for. More
importantly, we’re committed to providing the community with the largest
possible pool of adventurers and prospective Dungeon Masters by ensuring that
all gamers can play together regardless of which operating system they use.”
Sword Coast Legends fully supports cross platform network play on any mix of
Windows, Mac and Linux machines. As further proof of the team’s shared
commitment to gamers on all desktop platforms, each Sword Coast Legends Steam
key can be redeemed for the player’s platform of choice.
Steam News announces the
release of a new Steam client, noting one of the new features is integration of
Steam Refunds support. There's more on their new refund policy in
this news update: "We're
releasing a major update to how we handle requests for refunds for purchases on
Steam. You can read through all the details about
refunds on Steam here,
or visit http://help.steampowered.com
if you’re having trouble with a purchase. We hope this will give you more
confidence in trying out titles that you're less certain about." They warn that players abusing the system to get free games may
be refused future refunds, but that they do not consider it abuse to request a
refund for a recently purchased game to repurchase it because it subsequently
went on sale. Here's the general policy: You can request a refund for
nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn't meet the
hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the
title for an hour and just didn't like it
It doesn't matter. Valve will, upon request via
help.steampowered.com, issue a
refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase,
and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details
below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can
ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.
You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You
will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method
you used to make the purchase. If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a
refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the
full amount. (Some payment methods available through Steam in your country may
not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method.

The Fallout website features a test
pattern and a countdown timer ticking off the hours until tomorrow morning,
offering a strong indication that we should expect news related to the RPG
series when it hits zero. There have been recent hints both
large and
small that Fallout 4 is in the
works, and this does nothing to discourage the hopes these have raised. The
timer is currently set to reach zero at 10:00 am EDT tomorrow. Thanks Darren.

An open letter to journalists who don’t give a shit - Tired Old Hack.
Thanks Derek.
"Here’s my take on it. Simply put, if you’re covering a game and you care
so little about the game that you don’t even have the decency to pay
attention to it, then – and pardon my vernacular here – f*ck directly off."
Well the dragnet may not be upon us yet, but I think the Gunnar-man and I are
outlaws. We were walking yesterday, and I will admit he was off the leash.
Somewhere along the way over the winter I learned he had become quite reliable
that way, and I often let him roam free, as he rarely gets more than six feet
from me anyway. This hasn't been a problem before now, but yesterday someone
started yelling at me about how I was running afoul of the local leash law,
which indeed I was, though as I say, he was right with me. The thing is Gunnar
would have been off the leash in that spot anyway, because I let him look for
his girlfriend Elvis in her backyard. Anyway, being in the wrong, I have always
planned on deferring to anyone who objected, but this guy was across the street
nowhere near us, and he started the conversation by saying "You're a real
smartass," which got things off on the wrong foot, to say the least, and I
reacted with anger. This all ended with him taking photos of us to report us to
the police, and the two of us hurling f-bombs at each other in very loud voices
on a very quiet street. Not my proudest moment, but at least it gave me a weird
story to share. I don't even think he lives in the area, but I wonder what will
happen if we run into each other again.
