Grand Theft Auto V Modding Clarified

Rockstar Games answers some questions about Grand Theft Auto V. Several topics of interest are covered, including a clarification of the sort of modifications that will get players in trouble, which focuses on GTA Online:

We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV. Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.

Telepath Tactics Demos

Sinister Design announces the release of playable demos for Telepath Tactics, offering the chance to sample their recently released tactical RPG on Windows, OS X, or Linux. Word is: "This demo gives you the first handful of battles and cut scenes from the main campaign, plus a local multiplayer 1-v-1 you can play against the computer on the Little Lava Cave map using 5 of the game’s 23 base character classes."

Victory Command Closed Beta

PlayGrid Games and Petroglyph are now accepting signups for closed beta testing of Victory Command, their upcoming RTS/MOBA. They say: "Get into the action early! Gamers can now sign up for chance to enter the Closed Beta at www.victory-command.com before it opens to the public. To command a wide range of modern, upgradeable warfare vehicles and heavily equipped troops across a variety of maps to dominate friends and foes alike." Here's word on the game:

Producer and publisher PlayGrid Games has teamed with globally renowned development studio Petroglyph to create Victory Command, a fast-action, military MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). Victory Command expands the competitive battlefield beyond the standard three-lane MOBA formula with RTS (real-time strategy) controls and tactics in an open-field battle arena that gives players the chance to engage enemies with larger scale strategies such as flanking, ambushing, and trapping.

In Victory Command players simultaneously command multiple units of armoured, recon, and infantry combat units to engage in 5v5 team combat. They begin their military career with basic companies to command, and then improve their troops and arsenal by earning experience points in combat. Combining the cooperation and competition of battle arena games with the strategies and tactics of real-time strategy games, this unique Military MOBA, is full of additional ways to surprise and destroy opponents. Victory Command will be available on Steam Early Access in just a few short weeks.

Wasteland 2 GotY Free Upgrade

A Wasteland 2 Game of the Year Edition is coming late in the summer to offer an enhanced version of inXile's post-apocalyptic RPG sequel. Now inXile announces this will be offered to all owners of the game as a free upgrade:

inXile Entertainment recently announced the Wasteland 2 Game of the Year Edition, an enhanced and expanded update to the original game slated for late summer this year. inXile is now pleased to announce that this upcoming edition will be offered as a free upgrade to all previous crowdfunding backers and any purchasers of the original edition of Wasteland 2. This update will be released for all owners on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms.

Wasteland 2 Game of the Year Edition will include a massive host of improvements for existing fans and new players to enjoy. The game will be updated to Unity 5, the latest version of the Unity game engine, and benefits from improved environment textures, character models, and Physically Based Rendering for more impressive lighting. Thousands of lines of new voice-over have also been recorded to enrich the game's cast of original and unique characters, making this the most immersive version of the Wasteland yet.

The Game of the Year Edition update also provides major enhancements to gameplay. Players will have even more fun customizing their squad of Desert Rangers with new Perks & Quirks, which allow them to customize their squad throughout the game with unique bonuses and trade-offs. The new Precision Strike system lets players target individual body parts on enemies to inflict debilitating effects and gain the edge in combat. With overhauled game balance, item drops, and reworked combat encounters throughout the game, players will need every advantage they can get to master the dangers of the Arizona wastes.

“We wanted to re-affirm our gratitude to our backers and our dedication to RPG fans, as we have been most fortunate to return to our roots,” says Brian Fargo, CEO. “We plan to continue our proud tradition with Bard’s Tale IV, which we’ll crowdfund later this year.”

AU Tax on Digital Purchases Possible

A price jump may be coming to digital purchases in Australia, where gamers are already unhappy that they often pay more for games on Steam than customers in other territories. Player Attack has word that the country is considering what's called a "Netflix tax" on digital media that would tack an additional 10% onto Internet purchases of digital media like Netflix movies and Steam games. This may not happen immediately, but they seem to feel it is inevitable, saying: "Whether or not it makes it in time (the 2015 Federal Budget will be handed down on Tuesday night) is a different question, but it's certainly something being discussed in great detail. Maybe rather than a question of 'if' such a tax will be imposed, it's more a question of 'when' - and 'how much'."

Mortal Kombat X Patch Returns; Saved Game Fix Plans

A Steam Community Group Announcement has word that the new patch is once again available for Mortal Kombat X, following news that it was revoked because it was deleting saved games (thanks VG247). They also address the loss of saved games players may have suffered while the misbehaving patch was in the wild, saying impacted players should be hearing from them by tomorrow:

We understand that some PC players lost their save data before we were able to correct an issue with the most recent patch. An updated patch was recently released to add Jason and all of the other patch improvements back into the game and no other players should experience save loss when installing the patch. We are truly sorry if the recent patch did cause you to lose your game save. Affected players should be hearing from us soon with details on how we are addressing the situation.

If you lost your save due to the patch and have not heard from us by Friday May 8th at 12pm EST, please submit a Customer Service help request by visiting support.wbgames.com and selecting “Ask for Help” from the menu at the top. Select “Gameplay Help Request” as your Question Type, “Save Game issue” as your Specific Question, and include your Steam Account Name in your help request description. We will make sure that you are helped out if you were impacted by this issue.

Out of the Blue

Here's the story, of a man named Brady, who was busy with three balls of his own. The deflated game-ball, and the two giant cojones it took to laugh it off when he got caught. There's something particularly irksome about someone who puts himself out there as Captain America, and turns out to be Nick Fury. Extra credit to Robert Kraft for doubling down on his indignation with a "depends on what your definition of 'is' is" refutation of the findings.
