A Dead
Island 2 tweet announces the zombie sequel is delayed until next year
(thanks
Shacknews), with Deep Silver providing
this explanation: We
have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel
that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell
us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with,
co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game
that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.
And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.
We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t
reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to
delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.
Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to
share at a later stage.
We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead
Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play
as a result.

A
post on reddit warns Dark Souls II players they are risking a
"softban" in From Software's action/RPG if they use DS2Fix64, an injector recently recommended
on Kotaku that fixes a number of bugs in the game (thanks Richard). They
explain the consequences of a softban: A softban isn't exactly what it
might sound like. If you're softbanned, it means your character can't connect to
players that aren't softbanned (i.e., most of the playerbase). This effectively
shoves you into a "cheaters only" online experience intended to prevent
legitimate players from having to play with people who might be cheating to gain
an unfair advantage.
Symptoms include seeing no or very few summon signs on the ground, even in
places where they are normally numerous, and long queue times in arena-based
PVP.
Unfortunately, there's plenty of things that can get you put on this blacklist
that aren't "cheating" - such as DS2Fix or graphical mods.

Firefly now offers Space Colony: Steam Edition
on Steam, an enhanced
version of their sci-fi real-team strategy game. Here's
a trailer and here's
the deal: In Space Colony players are blasted half way across the galaxy
with limited resources, a mega corporation looking over their shoulder and a
ragtag crew expecting a pay cheque. There’s an off-world settlement to build and
hostile alien threats to neutralise, but neglect the crew and the colony is
doomed. Each colonist has a mind of their own, so keeping them safe, happy and
alive is no easy feat. Nurture them and they’ll team up to protect the company’s
interests, forget to pay them and all hell breaks loose!
Choosing from more than 100 different buildings, it’s up to the player to design
and build a colony that meets the needs of their crew. So before spending every
last credit on iron extraction and lucrative space chicken production remember
that without laser defences, a sauna and a half-decent restaurant nobody is
going to want to work for you. Continue here to read the full story.
Julien Risse's
LinkedIn profile is pretty tame, but according to
Videogamer this is because the Ubisoft programmer's résumé has been cleaned
up following the discovery of a reference to Watch Dogs 2. Ubisoft has
already made comments
indicating they are interested in a sequel to their open-world driving game, but
this has not been officially announced, and Videogamer says Ubisoft declined
their request for response to this report.
Steam has introduced a new system allowing game developers to ban individual
users (thanks
VG247). Here's how this works: Banned by Game Developer (Game Ban)
Because nobody likes playing with cheaters.
Playing games should be fun. In order to ensure the best possible online
multiplayer experience, Valve allows developers to implement their own systems
that detect and permanently ban any disruptive players, such as those using
cheats.
Game developers inform Valve when a disruptive player has been detected in their
game, and Valve applies the game ban to the account. The game developer is
solely responsible for the decision to apply a game ban. Valve only enforces the
game ban as instructed by the game developer.
For more information about a game ban in a specific game, please contact the
developer of that game.

Steam now offers the
official release of Guns, Gore & Cannoli, a cartoon-styled,
side-scrolling shooter for Windows and OS X where you play a mobster trying to
get out of the roaring 20s alive. A look at all this action can be found in
this recent trailer,
and here's word on the release: Inspired by classic 80’s side-scrolling
shooters, Crazy Monkey Studios' over-the-top action sidescroller takes a 1920’s
Tommy gun turf war and throws in zombie lowlifes, Italian pastries and even
flamethrowers, making this game an offer you really can’t refuse.
Putting you in the loafers of hardened mobster Vinnie Cannoli, the game sees you
shooting, scrapping and eating your way through Thugtown, leaving a bloody trail
of undead, wiseguys and a whole lotta Tommy Gun shells in your wake as you take
back your territory across beautifully hand-drawn cityscapes.
Not a fan of getting your hands dirty alone? Take up your rightful place as don,
form a crew of thugs and paste the stuffing out of zombies for hours of local
four player mobster mayhem! Continue here to read the full story.
Slitherine announces the release of
Order of Battle: Pacific,
offering what they call a "deep and challenging strategic experience in a WW2
Theater of Operations that is rarely covered." The game is now available through
the official website, and
they promise all who purchase a Steam key once the game is released there.
A new trailer shows
off the game, and here's more of what to expect: Today players have the
chance to join both factions and command their naval, air and land units with
the release of Order of Battle: Pacific! Developer The Artistocrats
have managed to deliver an approachable and fast-paced wargame which,
thanks to its dynamic supply system, will be able to satisfy any strategy
enthusiast. Planning and properly executing an amphibious landing supported by
naval artillery and bombers could easily become a brain-teaser when the
enemy cuts your supply lines depleting the efficiency and morale of your assault
units!
Driven by two massive and dynamic campaigns, and a set of scenarios for
cooperative and versus multiplayer games either local or by Internet, Order of
Battle: Pacific offers a deep and challenging strategic experience in a WW2
Theater of Operations that is rarely covered. Only commanders able to select
the right units from among the 500 available and plan several moves ahead of
his opponent will have a chance to survive in the bloody waters of the Pacific
Ocean. Continue here to read the full story.
Phantasmal: City of Darkness is now available for Windows as an Early Access
title on Steam, offering
a first-person survival/horror game inspired by classics of the genre as well as
the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Developer Eyemobi says the game's use of procedural
generation ensures no two playthroughs will be alike, and they provide
this trailer to
emphasize the point. Inspired by old-school survival horror classics,
Phantasmal features an intricate, randomly generated world, guaranteeing that no
two experiences will ever be the same allowing for infinite replayability.
Players are challenged to be stealthy, resourceful, and quick witted in lieu of
direct combat, or else the creatures of Phantasmal will begin to diminish the
player character's sanity.
The game has strong Lovecraftian influences and is set in the infamous Kowloon
Walled City in the 90s, before its destruction. Continue here to read the full story.
