Gone Gold - Project CARS

Slightly Mad's Andy Tudor tweets that Project CARS is gold, by offering the hex value for gold as a hashtag: "#ffd700." To celebrate the news, here's a new trailer (thanks DSOGaming) showing how hard it is to distinguish the game from real life. Word is: "There is only about a month for the final launch of Project CARS (PC, PS4, Xbox One) and here a new comparison, compared with a real onboard from a BAC Mono at the Silverstone GP circuit. The graphic realism of Project CARS makes you wonder sometimes... which of the two onboard is real?" Continue here to read the full story.

EA Ending BF Heroes and Other F2P Games

EA News announces they are shutting down four free-to-play PC games in 90 days, including Battlefield Heroes:

On the other hand, some of our other PC free-to-play games are not as popular as they once were. So we find ourselves announcing the tough decision today that we are stopping development and winding down support for four PC free-to-play titles: Battlefield Heroes™, Battlefield™ Play4Free, Need for Speed™ World and FIFA World. These games will be live for another 90 days, after which they will go offline.

In more than five years since most of these titles launched, how we play games has changed dramatically. These were pioneering experiences, and we’re humbled that, over the years, so many of you joined us to enjoy the games and the community. While we say farewell to these free-to-play titles in the next few months, we are always exploring new concepts and ways to bring great games to more players around the world.

Space Hulk Ascension Dark Angels Expansion

Steam now offers the Dark Angels expansion for Space Hulk Ascension for Windows, OS X, and Linux, offering a 10% launch discount for the next week. Here's the deal:

Independent developer Full Control today announced that the third expansion for Space Hulk: Ascension is live for Windows PC, Mac and Linux on Steam. The Dark Angels Expansion “Bringer of Sorrow” unlocks the Deathwing of the Dark Angels Chapter and includes a further 20 story missions, and 20 flash missions for players to conquer.|

Featuring over 25 hours of content, Space Hulk: Ascension - Dark Angels continues to add incredible features and value to the turn-based strategy game. Written by Black Library author Graeme Lyon, the story campaign “Bringer of Sorrow” sees the planet Corinthe under attack by Tyranid forces, with a newly emerged Space Hulk that has to be eliminated by the Deathwing.

“I hope players are excited for the strategic options this expansion will afford them”, said Thomas Hentschel Lund, CEO of Full Control. “The Apothecary will give your team some incredible buffs, while the Plasma Cannon is one of the most destructive weapons the Genestealers will have the displeasure of facing!”

Plasma Cannons shoot out huge fireballs of glowing plasma that splash across large areas, causing insane amounts of damage. They can be overcharged for additional splash damage. The Apothecary is a support class that complements players command slot in their squad, and bolsters the resolve of nearby Terminators and supports defensive play styles.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Ascendance for PC This Month

Activision announces an April 30th release date for the PC and PlayStation 4 editions of the Ascension DLC for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Here's a new trailer along with a reminder of what this second pack adds to the military shooter:

Ascendance, the second massive DLC pack for Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare (2014's top-selling console video game in the world, according to the NPD Group and Gfk based on physical game unit sell-through), is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC on April 30. The definitive DLC package, with its four new thrilling maps, the formidable OHM, a 2-in-1 directed energy light machine gun/shotgun, the OHM Werewolf custom variant, and the all-new Exo Grapple ability and playlist delivering a faster way to reach strategic vantage points or a brutal secondary weapon to take down the competition, exclusively on Ascendance maps.

  • Perplex: Get vertical in Sydney as you fight to dominate this five-story modular apartment complex. Take the high ground or blast through the close-quarters interior in this small to medium sized map. Adapt your strategy mid-match when construction drones shift apartment modules, creating new routes and cover positions.
  • Site 244: A spacecraft has crash landed, spilling its mysterious cargo under the shadow of Mt. Rushmore, USA. This medium to large three-lane map allows for any style of gameplay, focusing combat through the space ship's fuselage and around the debris-littered landscape. Use the map-based scorestreak to crack open an alien spore and instantly enhance your perks and exo abilities.
  • Climate: Fight your way through a futuristic man-made utopia in this lush, climate-controlled enclosure. In this small to medium sized circular map, land and water routes channel frenetic combat around the central island structure. Watch your step when the river water changes from an asset into a deadly bubbling obstacle.
  • Chop Shop: Think fast as you make your way through the black market exoskeleton industrial complex and engage in fast-paced shootouts in this medium sized, symmetrical map. Activate the map-based scorestreak to take control of an Advanced Repulsion Turret that radiates a deadly microwave EMP to help lock down key areas.

The exo zombies saga continues in the all-new episode, Infection, as the four Atlas employees, portrayed by the returning celebrity cast of John Malkovich (In the Line of Fire, RED, Burn After Reading), Bill Paxton (Aliens, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow), Rose McGowan (Planet Terror, Scream), and Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Wolf of Wall Street) fight tooth and nail through undead zombie hordes. Located on the outskirts of an Atlas facility, the new exo zombies episode introduces a slew of never-before-seen undead masses, a robust arsenal of new traps and armaments and everyone's favorite fast food joint, Burgertown.

WildStar Off AU Shelves; F2P Coming?

A report on games.on.net says major Australian retailers have been told to pull WildStar from their shelves, fuelling speculation that this is to pave the way for the rerelease of the MMORPG as a free-to-play title, something many gamers have been expecting since it seems to be the fate of most entries in the genre. This is unconfirmed, and the site notes the game is still for sale online down under, and WildStar and time cards to refill subscriptions are also still readily available elsewhere. One of their sources is an EB employee who tells them the game was pulled from shelves "a few weeks ago."

They point the way to where this can be acquired through GOG.com and Steam, also noting that new users can pick up the Age of Wonders III Collection on Steam on sale. Here's word:

Embrace forbidden powers and prepare to reign for eternity, as today Triumph Studios launches the highly anticipated Eternal Lords Expansion!

Eternal Lords is the major, second expansion for Age of Wonders III, marking one year of continuous development since its release. Out of the Blue

Happy Tax Day! Probably not that happy unless you're the IRS, but at least we can be happy it's over. That sentiment applies to my Grand Theft Auto V installation, as starting from scratch did the trick, and I have the game up and running. I wonder if I'll ever tire enough of GTA Online to actually watch play the single-player game? Finally, in the thread last night about Bill Paxton playing Jack Thompson I mentioned that just based on appearance my choice would be Jon Stewart. Here are Google searches for Jack and Jon to see if you disagree.

Links: Thanks Ant and Acleacius.
Play: Golf Is Hard.
Sheriff.
Spy Jet.
Science: Autonomous, swarming UAVs fly into the future. Thanks Slashdot.
Media: Jimmy Kimmel gets the 'Avengers' to play 'Family Feud.'
Runner Prematurely Celebrates. Need to Leon Lett and Lindsey Jacobellis approve.
Sizzler Commercial Circa 1991.
