The
Path of Exile website is
counting down the nine days until the commencement of closed beta testing of
The Awakening, an upcoming expansion for Grinding Gear's action/RPG, and
those interested in testing can sign up
on this page. They don't
actually offer much on the add-on, deferring to various outlets who are covering
the news, so thanks to MisterBenn for pointing to
a
write-up on Gamepedia with lots of details on the add-on and a
first look trailer. He
also did a nice job of highlighting these details:
- New Act 4
- 11 new skills, 9 new boss fights, 90 new unique
items
- Closed Beta opening on April 20 (by application,
starting small and getting extended)
- Passive tree rework
- Ability to socket new Jewels into the passive tree
for special effects in nearby area
- Rework of existing content
- New quality of life additions
- Script-able loot drop filter to completely
customise filter/colour/highlight/border/sound of drop levels

Battle.net announces that
Season 3 is now underway in
Diablo III, offering rewards for starting
from scratch in Blizzard's action/RPG sequel. To help you on your way, they have
also posted a
race to Level
70 guide with tips from Rhykker to help get your power-leveling on track.
Here's word on the new season:
Seasons are an optional, recurring game
mode that offers PC players the opportunity to periodically start fresh,
leveling new Normal or Hardcore heroes from level 1 without any currency,
resources, items, or previously earned Paragon experience. Similar to the
separation between Normal and Hardcore game modes, Seasonal heroes will also
have their own shared stash and Artisan progression. Any currency, materials,
recipes, items, Paragon experience, and Artisan progression earned during a
Season will be rolled over to a player's non-Seasonal profile once the Season
concludes.
Seasons offer unique rewards and new challenges for players, including new
Legendaries, an exclusive Transmogrification set only available to those who
compete in each Season, and Season-only achievements called Conquests. Progress
within a given Season will also be tracked in our new Leaderboard system.

Today is a milestone in the gradual progression of spring, as the especially
tardy change in seasons left a pile of snow on the shady spot of our lawn that
managed to persist through yesterday. Granted, by then this was more of a stripe
than a pile, but now it's finally gone. If I'd thought of it in time, I could
have made a tiny snowman to celebrate the occasion, but I'm celebrating either
way. Happy spring!
