Archived News:
Total War Battles: KINGDOM is now available for Windows
on Steam as an open
beta, basically a soft launch for Creative Assembly's free-to-play strategy
game. Not all territories are included at this time, and
this page maintains
a list of regions entitled to play. Here's an
open beta
trailer and here's word on the release, and how this is soon coming to
additional platforms: Set during the chaotic turn of the 10th century, the
world starts to emerge from the Dark Ages divided and at war. Combining intense
battles with army management, kingdom building and devious social plotting,
Total War Battles: KINGDOM offers rich, bite-sized Total War experiences.
Players will find themselves rebuilding a crumbled empire. Through managing the
needs of their own fiefdom, players marshal formidable armies with which to duel
against neighboring kingdoms.
Intended to be the perfect slice of Total War gaming on the go, Total War
Battles: KINGDOM has been in a limited closed beta since it was announced last
year and today goes into a wider Open Beta on PC. This Open Beta signals the
start of the public releases for Total War Battles: KINGDOM, with Mac and tablet
versions coming later this year. With one persistent world, players will be able
to continue their campaign across multiple devices, at home, work or out and
about.
A new official gameplay
trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt shows off more gameplay from CD Projekt RED's
upcoming RPG sequel. Here's word from
GOG.com: "Set in a world where dark, gritty fantasy meets Slavic lore and
story telling - the morally grey universe of The Witcher has always been half of
the series' success. This newest trailer is about introducing you to that
beautiful, but troubled land. You'll get a feel for the absolute scale and
detail of the world that you'll be exploring - the openness, the choices, the
consequences, and the freedom to influence a world that may not even be worth
saving." Continue here to read the full story.
A new trailer posted by

showing off all three characters in action with all sorts of 3D platforming.
There is no audio commentary, just game sounds and music. Thanks Chris via

R.I.P.:
Clint Eastwood on the passing of Geoffrey Lewis. Loved him as Abner in
The Way of the Gun.
The source code for the Call of Duty
website has some further information about the just-revealed Call of
Duty: Black Ops 3 (thanks
DSOGaming). Here's what's not very carefully hidden in the site's meta
description: <meta property="og:description" content="Call of Duty®:
Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed
Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two
most-played games in Call of Duty® history. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
deploys players into a dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops
soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the
technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military
robotics define warfare. With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and
Zombies, providing fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty
ever."/>
An
Obsidian forum post explains how Pillars of Eternity players can choose to
opt-in for beta patches for the just-release RPG, appropriate for those willing
to live with some bugs in their bug fixes (thanks nin). Word is: "We will make a
formal announcement to the community when we are going to put the latest patch
up for beta testing. We are starting this process with the 1.04 patch." Here are
some caveats:
- Right now we are only running this beta on Steam.
The reason is that Steam provides a simple way to get folks into the beta.
If any players know of any games that ran betas on GOG, please let me know
so I can investigate.
- These patches may be unstable. We will be doing
work on the patches and they haven't gone through a full QA cycle so
unexpected things can happen. To be safe, I would avoid using any saved
games that you do not want to get corrupted. If you do want to use those
saved games, it is at your own risk.
- These patches may stay the same over the entire
testing period, but that is unlikely. There might be frequent build changes,
so expect to have to download multiple builds over a testing period.
Steam News announces
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be sold on Steam. Preorders are not yet
available, but feel free to form an Apple Store-style line in front of your
computer. Word is: "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is coming to Steam! Witness the
return of Adam Jensen in the
announcement trailer, and
add it to your Steam
wishlist to stay up-to-date on the latest news."
Gamereactor UK has word from CD Projekt RED on how a speed run might get you
through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in about 25 hours in a translation of
comments to
Gamereactor Deutschland, saying this involves skipping all dialogue and
taking optimal routes. This is in contrast to a
recent report that a full
playthrough of the RPG sequel will take 200+ hours if you chose to accept
all the game's side-quests and extra activities. Thanks

A new live-action
trailer is now online to promote Crookz – The Big Heist, the upcoming crime
game. The clip celebrates the game's 1970s setting with a number of corny 70s
film tropes, including Ron Jeremy. Here's word: "There’s a lot to think about
when trying to pull a huge job – and you’re going to need the experience when it
comes to planning your heists in Crookz – The Big Heist. Watch the team do their
best at working together to plan and take on their biggest job ever in the brand
new short movie based on the theme of Crookz – The Big Heist. Combining the
original announcement trailer (featuring Ron Jeremy) with all new live-action
footage, the movie provides a bit of back story to the central characters of
Crookz – The Big Heist as well as taking viewers through the stages of planning,
forming and then executing a masterful heist. These guys turn petty crime into
the art of Grand Larceny – so take a few tips from the pros." Continue here to read the full story.
A new video developer
diary from Perils of Man features ex-LucasArts' designer Bill Tiller
and 1954: Alcatraz's Gene Mocsy talking about their upcoming adventure game.
Here's word: "How is the adventure genre taken advantage of in this day and age?
What do we know about the curious protagonist, Ana? With puzzles in mind, how
are environments designed? How do history, disaster, risk, drama, and family
come together in this dark epic story? Find out everything there is to know
about the development of Perils of Man in this developer diary video with two of
the co-creating adventure game veterans." Continue here to read the full story.
Here's a trailer from
Act
of Aggression showing off the U.S. faction from the upcoming real-time strategy
game. They say: "The US Army are a tough veteran force taking advantage of heavy
specialization, with some of the strongest individual units in the game. What it
lacks in versatility it more than makes up for in brute force - especially when
it comes to the M1A1 Abrams Tusk, an upgradable battle tank to be reckoned with." Continue here to read the full story.

Football Tactics - Steam Greenlight. "Football Tactics - is a tactical
football manager with turn based matches. Create your own club, and turn it
to a team of the champions!"
Salute to tackle football star Troy Polamalu
on his retirement. That's a no-brainer first ballot hall-of-famer right
there, for both NFLs: The National Football League and the National Follicle
Legends. For me, he is only defensive player since Lawrence Taylor who was
always more interesting to watch upon the snap than whatever was happening on
the offensive side of the ball. I will miss that.
