A
post on Polygon discusses a serious bug in Pillars of Eternity,
though visiting the links they provide to
the thread about the issue and
Obsidian's reply bring up pages saying they are currently experiencing
"scheduled downtime," so they may be busy fixing this at this very moment. In
any event, here's an outline of the problem so you can avoid falling victim to
it: Pillars of Eternity, the crowdfunded throwback to the great Infinity
Engine role-playing games of yesteryear, has a game-breaking bug that developer
Obsidian is working to fix. Meantime: Do not double-click items to equip them to
your character. Drag them to a slot in the inventory screen.
Double-clicking, for some reason, removes all passive, racial and permanent
buffs — forever. While players may reload an old save and proceed just fine,
obviously that forsakes any progress between that save and triggering the bug.
The bug is described at length in this thread on Obsidian's official forums. In
this reply, an Obsidian developer says that they do have a fix for the bug and
that they're "trying to make it retroactive, so it will fix any save games that
have this problem."
If the bug strikes party members, removing them from the party and then adding
them back seems to fix the problem. Others report that though passive buffs do
not show up, they appear to still be present and working.
BioWare Blog
announces the open source release of Orbit, "a modern Java framework that
makes it easier to build and maintain distributed, secure, and scalable online
services." That's pretty self-explanatory (we're nodding, knowingly), but here's
more, just in case: Beginning today, we will be making Orbit open source
on GitHub under a BSD license. We have been leveraging open source technology
internally for quite some time, and we think the time is now right for us to
give back and engage with the community in a more meaningful way.
The last-generation of Orbit powered some of the key technology behind the
Dragon Age Keep and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Our plans for the next-generation
framework are even more ambitious.
Orbit is still early in development, and as such, we’re excited about the
opportunity that open and collaborative development presents. We’re looking
forward to working with people across the community to make it even better. If
you’re building online services in Java, we’d love to hear your feedback.
This initiative is the result of a lot of effort from people across BioWare and
EA, and as our first open source project, we think Orbit will be an exciting and
interesting challenge.
A new official trailer
from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege shows off the new "operator" system in
Ubisoft's upcoming continuation of the tactical shooter series. Word is: "Today,
Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will include a brand-new
operator system. Operators are specialists from the world’s top Special Forces
units and masters in their respective fields. Each has their own unique
expertise which adds a new tactical layer to the Siege experience and pushes
team play even further. Players will put together these operators to create
their best CTU (counter-terrorism unit) composition and defeat the opposing
team." Those interested in a closer look at this system may be interested in a
livestream on Twitch today at 2:00 pm
EDT. Continue here to read the full story.
Here's a new trailer
from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare showing more of the Exo Zombies infection
from the Ascendance DLC that will come to the Xbox edition of the military
shooter sequel tomorrow, and to other platforms. "Watch gameplay from Exo
Zombies Infection, part two of the Exo Zombies co-op experience. After being
overrun at the Atlas research facility, our four heroes must fight for survival
at a Burgertown franchise." Also, Burgertown has issued a statement steadfastly
denying accusations that they use zombie meat in their burgers. Continue here to read the full story.
Steam has word that
DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Last Round for Windows is unlocking in a few hours, offer a
PC edition of this fighting game. Unfortunately this will be missing a few key
features, as
noted in this thread (thanks
Eurogamer). The good news is the PC edition will support up to 4K resolution
with antialiasing. The bad news is that this apparently uses the engine from the
last-gen edition, producing visual effects "equivalent to PS3 version," and that
this is launching without multiplayer support, as word is: "Currently the game
only supports offline play. Online gameplay is planned to be added at a later
date. Details will be announced on the website when they are available."
The Roberts Space
Industries website reveals that crowdfunding of Star Citizen has now
passed the $77 million mark.
GameSpot notes this includes a million dollars raised in a five-day period,
and it looks like this includes well over $600K collected on Saturday, which
seems to be the result of a new
a new ship for the game going on sale. Here's word on this $250.00 ship
package: We are offering this pledge ship to help fund Star Citizen’s
development. All of these ships will be available for in-game credits in the
final universe, and they are not required to start the game. Additionally, all
decorative ‘flare’ items will also be available to acquire in the finished game
world. The goal is to make additional ships available that give players a
different experience rather than a particular advantage when the persistent
universe launches.
The Vanguard is being offered for the first time as a limited concept sale. This
means that the ship design meets our specifications, but it is not yet ready to
display in your Hangar or to fight in Arena Commander. The sale includes
Lifetime Insurance on the ship hull and a pair of decorative items for your
Hangar. A future patch will add a Vanguard poster and then once the in-game
model is finished you will also be given an in-game Vanguard mini ship model! In
the future, the ship price will increase and the offer will not include Life
Time Insurance or these extras.
GfK Chart-Track is back with their U.K. sales charts, offering
this list of the 30 bestselling PC games for the week ending March 28th.
Pillars of Eternity makes its debut at number nine while Football Manager
2015 kicks Battlefield Hardline out of the number one spot. On the
all platforms chart, Hardline retains the top spot while Bloodborne
debuts at number two and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection joins the
chart at number three. Word is: ‘Battlefield Hardline’ fends off a strong
challenge from Sony’s new PS4 exclusive ‘Bloodborne’ to hold on to the No1 spot
for a second week.
‘Battlefield 4’ may have had a slightly better launch week, but its successor
has a better second week with sales only dropping by 43%. ‘Bloodborne’ misses
out on No1 by 22,500 units, almost making it 4 new IP All Formats No1 debuts in
the first quarter of the year. ‘Borderlands: The Handsome Collection’ continues
the trend of relaunching old-gen titles as deluxe remastered games on PS4 and
Xbox One, entering the chart at No3. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-11%) drops one place
to No4 remaining ahead of ‘FIFA 15’ (+0%) which is a non-mover at No5.
Sales of ‘Dying Light’ (-26%) are growing dimmer as it slips 2 places to No6.
‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (+43%) and ‘Far Cry 4’ (+233%) both benefit
from retailer promotions this week as CoD rises one place to No7 and Far Cry ten
places to No8. ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (+7%) holds on to No9, but the
Playstation version (+9%) is not so lucky, dropping out of the Top 10 for the
first time since week 7, slipping from No10 to No13. A small price drop gives
‘The Order: 1886’ (+112%) a slight kick, pushing it back into the Top10 at No10.
The only other new entry to make the Top 40 this week is ‘Ride’ from PQube and
Milestone, debuting at No25 on PS3, PS4 and PC.
Well this should be interesting... our Monday night co-op crew is going to take
a crack at the Heroes of the Storm beta tonight. None of us has any real
prior MOBA experience, and we're all old geezers, so we're not necessarily a
perfect fit with the community. A couple of us checked this out a bit over the
weekend, and got our first taste of that "toxic" behavior so often associated
with the genre. It was actually pretty funny... at one point one of our
teammates asked one of us how many fingers he was missing. Badoom-bah!
