Gone Gold - Pillars of Eternity

Developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Paradox Interactive announce that Pillars of Eternity is gold, having completed development, and the crowd-funded RPG is set for its scheduled release on March 26th, leaving a little over a week to take advantage of the preorder bonuses for three different editions of the game. Here's word:

Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox Interactive today announced that Pillars of Eternity, the fan-funded modern take on a classic role-playing game (RPG) set in an original world created by some of the best minds in RPG development, has reached “Gold Master” (GM) status, and is now ready for its release on March 26, 2015. Pillars of Eternity, originally called “Project Eternity” the 10th most funded Kickstarter ever and second most funded video game , has been in development for two and a half years, and is now ready to complete its journey, arriving on Windows, Mac, and Linux PC next week. The game will release globally, with backers receiving their digital copies as well.

“Seeing Pillars of Eternity through has been an incredible journey for all of us at a deeply personal level,” said Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. “When we took our idea to Kickstarter, our fans got behind us more than we ever thought. It’s been a blast to match their enthusiasm, see them cheer us on, and have them help to keep us on course every step of the way. It's crazy to think that more than two years have come and gone, but time flies that way when you are creating something as important as Pillars of Eternity has become to us.”

“We knew, when we joined forces with Obsidian, that both the studio and the game were a perfect match for us,” said Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “A core tenet at Paradox is staying closely connected to one’s players and community, and we’ve watched Obsidian do exactly that. From the handling of their crowd-funding to their open dialogue with fans on their forums, Obsidian has been dedicated to fulfilling their promises to players, and we’ve been glad for the chance to help them do it. We’re looking forward to working together with Obsidian for a long time to come.”

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, featuring an original world and unique game system, Pillars of Eternity ushers in a renaissance for a much beloved style of role playing game. Funded via Kickstarter in late 2012, raising over $4 million through both backer pledges on Kickstarter and PayPal. Pillars of Eternity has been a project of passion for both the development team and the loyal fans who made it possible.

Pillars of Eternity is scheduled to launch next week, on March 26, 2015, and the game can still be pre-ordered until that time. Pre-orders also include two special in-game items: a Giant Miniature Space Piglet companion who will accompany players through the world of Eora, and the Gaun’s Pledge ring, which provides powerful support to heroes in times of peril. Pillars of Eternity can be pre-ordered by visiting http://buy.pillarsofeternity.com.

Dungeons 2 Demons Trailer

Here's a new trailer from Dungeons 2 revealing the demons faction in the upcoming strategy sequel. Additionally, they plan on showing off more of the game on Thursday on a livestream on Twitch that will get underway at noon EDT. Here's word on demons:

The malevolent Horde of The Dungeon Lord is a threat to be feared, but what they have for brawn they sadly lack in brains. Take control of The Demons and use their devastating magic to rid The Overworld of the troublesome humans forevermore. The Demons are the second playable faction in Dungeons 2, offering a different style of gameplay and featuring their own unique dungeon rooms, traps and creatures to control. While The Horde faction has powerful brutes bred for war, The Demons utilize more magic based abilities. Use the corrosive acid of the Chaos Weaver to damage enemies over time and protect your army with The Shield of Emptiness spell. Or give your demons a self-esteem boost in the Room of Admiration and alleviate worker boredom by torturing poor souls with The Succubi.

Pillars of Eternity Expansion Revealed

Obsidian revealed plans for an expansion for Pillars of Eternity during a Reddit AMA last night for the RPG, which is due for release next week. “We are looking at doing an expansion that’s about the same size (area wise) of Tales of the Sword Coast," wrote Obsidian's Adam Brennecke, as reported on VG247. "I won’t reveal much about it since it’s early in development, but we’ve already have a small team working on areas and environments while the rest of the team focus on shipping the game. We will announcing more things about it over the next few months." On a related note, here's a trailer we missed when it was first posted a couple of weeks ago that shows off a panel discussion of Pillars of Eternity at PAX East. The clip runs just over 49 minutes, and offers beta gameplay footage along with the discussion from the developers. Word is: "Gameplay and presentation of Pillars of Eternity (Beta Version). From Pax East 03/07/15, with Chris Avellone, Adam Brennecke, Tim Cain, Josh Sawyer, Brandon Adler and Shane Defreest." Thanks nin. Continue here to read the full story.

Publisher EA and developer Visceral Games announce the release of Battlefield Hardline in North America for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, offering a law enforcement variant on the military shooter series. "Our goal with Battlefield Hardline was to create the most complete first-person shooter this year by building upon the unrivaled multiplayer franchise DICE created and adding a memorable single player experience with storylines and characters that fans will care about just like they would their favorite TV show," said Steve Papoutsis, General Manager of Visceral Games and Executive Producer of Battlefield Hardline. "We’ve added a new level of strategy, speed and storytelling to one of the greatest franchises in the history of videogames. We’re incredibly excited for players to get their hands on it." Here's more on the game:

Joe Montana Football 16 Revealed

NFL hall of fame quarterback Joe Montana tweets about plans to revive Joe Montana Football, the tackle football simulation that had its heyday back when Joe Cool was establishing himself as the greatest clutch QB of all time. His brief tweet (not that there are lengthy tweets) also reveals what engine this will use, saying: "It just got Unreal @unrealengine #joemontanafootball16." A post on Heavy.com discusses the implications of this, noting that EA's license probably means this won't use actual NFL players (presuming SEGA will continue as publisher), and the screenshot with Joe Cool's tweet shows him and other players wearing non-NFL uniforms. They do say it's possible this will include some former players, however, and the speculation is we will learn more about all this at E3.

Blade Kitten: Episode 2 Released

Blade Kitten: Episode 2 is now available on Steam, following a brief four-year-plus wait for this DLC for Blade Kitten, which may have grown into a full blade cat by now. Here is the 100% true explanation: "Historians may well remember that the first part of Blade Kitten was released in 2010, developing a cult following, while the second episode was thought to be lost forever. Thankfully, skilled digital archaeologists have braved frozen tundras, treacherous caverns and booby-trapped contracts to bring this game to light for the first time."

Out of the Blue

Happy St. Paddy's Day! I have some corned beef to try and cook up a traditional dinner for this, though I basically cannot eat cooked cabbage (it makes me gag uncontrollably), so I'm going to work on a non-traditional variant for this like cole slaw. Anyway, the first thing that comes to most minds on this holiday is drink, not food, so please enjoy yourself responsibly out there, as amateur drinking festivities are fraught with danger. Be safe, have fun, and Erin go Bragh!
