Archived News:
Titanfall 2 is official, and the multiplayer shooter sequel is coming to
Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4,
reports IGN after confirming the news with Respawn's Vince Zampella. They
get his thoughts on how things should change, as he expresses admiration for how
Evolve added free new multiplayer maps for all users, which shows in the recent
decision to make
Titanfall's DLC free. Here's word: I guess EA announced a sequel, so I
could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or… yeah. So we're
working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the
main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too.
Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform.

The
Bethesda Blog offers two new trailers with PAX East gameplay walkthroughs
for Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Word is: "Last week Pete Hines and I had
the pleasure of debuting Wolfenstein: The Old Blood — live in Boston from the
Twitch.TV main stage. We had a great time showing off the content, and as you’ll
see, it was a pretty good idea that I input a debug code for a little extra
'health insurance.' Wolfenstein: The Old Blood releases digitally on Tuesday,
May 5th on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more content updates — including
the debut of new concept art for weapons be sure to check out the game’s
Facebook and
Twitter pages." Continue here to read the full story.
A third video developer
diary for Killing Floor 2 offers more on development of Tripwire
Interactive's upcoming first-person shooter sequel. The clip includes alpha
gameplay footage, and they note that all of this is taken from the Windows PC
edition. Here's a description of the clip: Today, Tripwire Interactive
returns with the release of the latest installment in its multi-part developer
diary series for the highly anticipated PC and PlayStation®4 title, KILLING
FLOOR 2. In a continuation of Weapons and Perks: Part 1, the newest video,
Weapons and Perks: Part 2 takes aim at what KILLING FLOOR 2 has in store in its
heavy arsenal. For starters, the team pairs each perk with a specialized base
weapon and grenade. Players can then customize their specific perk skills as
they progress in the game to suit their Zed-slaying style. With Tripwire
Interactive’s superb track record of creating realistic, fast-paced action
weapons, they’ve worked hard to perfect the art of gratifying weaponry in
KILLING FLOOR 2.
Blending functionality and realism with high-frame rate animations, KILLING
FLOOR 2 features weapon animations that clock in blazing fast at over 200
frames-per-second compared to the average of 30 FPS found in most First Person
Shooters. With the return of Zed Time, which has been enhanced for KILLING FLOOR
2, players will be seeing nothing but red! Continue here to read the full story.
A new video shows off
"pre-alpha" footage from Act of Aggression, offering the first look at
gameplay the upcoming real-time strategy game from Eugen Systems. Here's word on
the clip: Act of Aggression - from Eugen Systems, developers of the
million selling Wargame series - aims to mark itself as the return to the Golden
Era of RTS with its smart mix of classical values and modernization; base
building, resource management, and mass unit production are just some of the
gameplay features you’ll see in the first, bombastic pre-alpha gameplay trailer.
See how the foundations of one of the three factions’ bases are developed, and
notice the differences in resource management. The Cartel make use of high-speed
helicopters for resource transportation, whilst the US rely on trucks which can
be upgraded to feature weaponry to protect themselves.
You’ll also get a taste of how each of the three factions differ in combat, and
an extended look at the techno-thriller inspired GUI and digital effects unique
to Act of Aggression. Continue here to read the full story.
Deep Silver announces a 2016 release window for Homefront: The Revolution,
the next installment in the Homefront series they acquired
last year from Crytek.
Troubles at Crytek
impacted this
project, but now they say it's on track to come out next year, saying
Dambuster Studios is up to 126 staff to support the effort, noting "the vast
majority" of them are veterans of Crytek UK (previously Free Radical Design).
Word is: "Development on Homefront: The Revolution continues at full speed, with
the game now scheduled for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac, as well as
Windows and Linux PC in 2016."
Firefly Studios announces Space Colony: Steam Edition, calling the third version of
their sci-fi base builder the "ultimate version" of the game. The original Space
Colony was first
released in 2003 and the game got an HD remake a
couple of years ago. The new version will be released
on Steam (duh) this
spring, and they offer
this trailer to show off what's changed this time around, which includes new
content as well as visual upgrades. Here's word: Fans of base builders,
management sims and the closely-related Stronghold series can soon return to the
world of Space Colony in HD. Faithful to the original game Space Colony: Steam
Edition includes military and civilian campaigns with more than 80 missions in
total, including brand new single player content. Steam Workshop functionality
also has been added to the game’s map editor, allowing players to share custom
maps with the Steam community. Fans can discover old favourites, upload new
creations and even download whole new campaigns designed by the Space Colony
community.
“As an indie dev self-publishing on Steam we’re in total control. That’s a
daunting prospect but without Steam’s help, empowering developers like Firefly,
this new release wouldn’t be happening.”, said Simon Bradbury, Creative Director
of Firefly Studios. “Many of the original Space Colony team still work at
Firefly and we’re all thrilled to see the game finally getting the exposure it
deserves! I really hope players enjoy the new single player content and cool
Steam features.”
Nearly twelve years after release, Space Colony: Steam Edition is more feature
rich and visually enhanced than ever before. Created exclusively for Steam, this
new remastered version will include Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Steam
Workshop support and Steam Cloud for saved games. Space Colony: Steam Edition is
the definitive version for fans of the original and the Stronghold series, with
which it shares DNA in both gameplay and an irreverent sense of humour. Also
supported are new high resolution graphics settings, allowing players to view
their entire colony while playing on a single screen. Continue here to read the full story.
A
thread on Reddit has details on new regional restrictions Valve is
apparently imposing on games gifted through Steam (thanks
VG247). This is another attempt to control the ability to buy games cheaply
on the service by taking advantage of regional pricing differences, and
this post shows an example of the type of message this policy produces:
This is a restricted gift which can only be redeemed in these countries:
Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand
In addition, if you decide to redeem this restricted gift, you can only play it
within the countries listed above.
Note that using an IP proxy or other methods to disguise the place of your
residence to activate this gift is a violation of the Steam Subscriber Agreement
and may result in restrictions on this Steam account.
As a wise man once wrote, "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how
vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is." This may help explain the
post on the RSI community forums by Cloud Imperium's Jeremy Masker, who
explains that the client for Star Citizen is going to be extremely large,
and the game's patches are likely to be bigger than most games (thanks
DSOGaming). For those looking for more on the game, you now can view its
PAX East presentation online. Here's word on what to expect when it comes to
file sizes in the upcoming space combat game, correcting speculation that the
client and patches would be considerably smaller: As I have already said,
I would not count on this. The game compression and asset removal is unlikely to
yield such high gains that we will be able to reduce our client size to 30-40gb.
The size and number of assets that are left to deliver means that our client
size is much more likely to be 100gb.
Also, yes we are optimizing game patching for speed and to only deliver diffs,
but this is unlikely to reduce actual patch size. Again, each patch has 100s of
assets, each of these assets are at times 200mb, this leads to 2-6gb patches,
and if we end up doing a file type re-factor and have to re-download 30-40% of
the assets on the hard-drive, then the patch will be 14-20gb. Continue here to read the full story.
Okay, the term "hashtag" has now
jumped every shark in the ocean, and the term is no longer to be used ever
again.
