Another Total War: WARHAMMER Clue?

15 Years of Total War is a trailer showing off the history of the series with glimpses of the many settings it has visited over the years, and concludes with a subtle tease for what seems to be the rumored upcoming Total War: WARHAMMER, which would be a logical outgrowth of Creative Assembly's partnership with Games Workshop.

Descent Reboot Kickstarter

This Kickstarter for Descent: Underground is hoping to raise at least $600,000 to develop a new Unreal 4 engine-powered reboot of the Descent series of 6DOF shooters. The résumés of studio president Eric "Wingman" Peterson and the game's other developers include a lot of familiar titles, but a noticeable common thread is Star Citizen, so it seems developer Descendent Studios is largely composed of descendants from Cloud Imperium. Here's a trailer and here's word:

Descendent Studios, Inc. announced today it will reboot the popular Descent® franchise with its upcoming first-person vehicle shooter, Descent: Underground coming to PC. A Kickstarter for the new project can be found at http://descendentstudios.com/ks

The unique six-degrees-of-freedom game play has all but vanished… until now! Descent: Underground will bring the frenetic and pulse-pounding gaming experience back and add upgraded gameplay and features including Voxel technology, customizable ships, team and individual play, changeable maps, special weapons and upgrades, and so much more!

Descent: Underground will offer a distinctive gameplay style that gives players the ability to pit their flying skills against players around the world. Imagine fighting with 10, 20, 30 or more people all battling and acquiring minerals to keep the people on earth alive for one more day!

The game is being spearheaded by Eric “Wingman” Peterson, who is well known by PC gamers for having worked on the Wing Commander franchise, as well as Starlancer, and more recently as the President of Production for Cloud Imperium Games, the company behind the crowdfunding juggernaut, Star Citizen. Peterson is also known for being the host of the hit Internet web series, “Wingman’s Hangar.”

“We are bringing back that sensational feeling of fighting with six degrees of freedom while playing Descent,” said Peterson, CEO of Descendent Studios. “But we aren’t stopping there, we aim to take it up a few notches, by allowing players to dynamically change the map & customize their ships, to play as a part of a team or simply battle it out rogue style all alone. In addition, players will be able to create items and maps for the universe and get their own creations into the game”

Descent: Underground is a six-degrees-of-freedom, first-person-vehicle shooter set in the asteroid fields between Mars and Jupiter around three-hundred years into the future. Giant corporations have replaced national governments and have taken to space in a gold rush of mining operations. The flight and combat skills of their pilots help dominate enemy companies and pilots become heroes as their battles are broadcast back to earth for fans to cheer on their favorites.

Project BlueStreak Footage

This teaser trailer offers a look at "pre-alpha" footage of Project BlueStreak, which is the codename for the upcoming free-to-play shooter from Cliff Bleszinski's Boss Key Productions. They have opted to use the Unreal 4 Engine for this, which is not surprising given CliffyB's history at Epic Games, and the video offers a first peek at what it will look like. "We considered several options regarding what technology we’d use to build ‘Project BlueStreak.’ Ultimately, we found ourselves coming full circle to my friends at Epic Games and the elegant solution for rapid and quality game development that is Unreal Engine 4," said Cliff Bleszinski, founder and CEO of Boss Key Productions. "We look forward to making a top-tier product through this partnership." Continue here to read the full story.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number Released

Developer Dennaton Games and publisher Devolver Digital announce the release of Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number for Windows, Linux, and OS X, with the various console editions of the "brutal conclusion to the gruesome saga" also appearing today or tomorrow, depending on systems and territory. Fans can purchase Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number and the Digital Special Edition that includes the exclusive Hotline Miami 2: Remix EP featuring six select music tracks remixed by M|O|O|N, Scattle and Carpenter Brut. The full 49-track official soundtrack is also available to purchase on Steam and includes high quality MP3 and FLAC versions of each song.

Op Ed

Kotaku - Steam Greenlight Is Still Broken.
Once upon a time, the point of Greenlight was to gauge people's interest in games, to democratize the process of Steam game selection. In practice, though, it never worked out that way. There were too many games, too many community members saying too many things, too few Valve employees to sift through it all. So Valve tore down their stoplight and tossed their traffic officer into a fire. They started approving games not in trickles, but in truckloads—in part, honestly, because that's what everyone thought they wanted at the time. But that didn't work either. As a result, these days the truth is that nobody knows what the exact point of Greenlight is—especially not Valve.

Out of the Blue

The Gunnar-man and I ran into his favorite girlfriend on one of our walks yesterday, as Elvis (yes, she's a girl) was out and about. She's a Woodle, which is a Poodle mixed with a Wheaton Terrier, though through most of the winter you could mistake them for twins, as they each had giant blown-out Dr. J-style afros. In a sign of the times, however, Elvis' big hair has left the building, as she has already gotten her spring haircut, and is more-or-less shaved all over. This is a reminder that I'll soon have to do the same for Gunnar, and saying farewell to his magnificent coat is about the only regret I'm feeling right now about the change in seasons.
