A post on the
Terraria Community Forums announces development of Terraria: Otherworld,
saying right off the bat that this is not Terraria 2, but rather what developer
Re-Logic calls "a novel take on the Terraria experience" in the works
for Windows and OS X (thanks
IncGamers). They offer a
very short teaser
trailer with a look at alpha gameplay, and say they will be showing this off
further next month at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. For now,
here's what they are revealing: Expanding upon the immensely popular
action-sandbox title Terraria, exploring what might have been, and approaching
gameplay in a new direction; Terraria: Otherworld represents a novel take on the
Terraria experience.
Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe, Terraria: Otherworld
places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world
– now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its
original splendor. Along with a rag-tag band of survivors, will you be able to
successfully harness the power of an array of weaponry, magic, defenses, and
even the world itself to thwart the designs of this unseen evil?
Combining the experience of sandbox gameplay with role-playing and strategy
elements, Terraria: Otherworld explores the Terraria experience in an innovative
and unique way - providing a fresh approach to the “open world” genre.
To further pique your interest, we put together a brief teaser trailer video
based on early Alpha footage.
Terraria: Otherworld is in development for PC & Mac platforms. We are
considering PS4 and Xbox One versions, but a final decision has not been made in
that regard. We have set up a "Coming Soon" page for Terraria: Otherworld where
everyone can stay abreast of the latest and greatest news as the project
progresses. We also plan to launch a full site and community for Terraria:
Otherworld at a future date/closer to launch. We will share details around that
both on the Terraria: Otherworld page as well as here on TCF. Continue here to read the full story.
An
interview with Giorgio Moroder on Clash Magazine is the unexpected source of
some gaming news, as the musician indicates he is collaborating on the
soundtrack for an unannounced Tron Game. Word is: "I'm going to meet
Skrillex next week when I'm back. I'm doing the music for a game for Disney's
'Tron'. We have about five themes, electronic stuff and let's see if he's
interested in remixing or re-working one of the songs." Thanks

SinisterDesign.net
announces a new April 16th release date for Telepath Tactics, a month
later than the latest planned release date for the turn-based RPG, which has
suffered a couple of delays along the way. Word on the newest release date is
that this is a transparent avoidance directly competing with a number of similar
games to be released in March. Here's word on the decision in the terms of the
game: If I may briefly analogize this situation to something we might see
in a strategy RPG: releasing Telepath Tactics in the midst of all the craziness
of March 2015 would be like sending my best front-line fighter into the middle
of a throng of 20 enemies on open ground. We all know what’s going to happen to
the fighter if I do that–she is going to die.
Releasing Telepath Tactics in March means that its arrival will be drowned out
by coverage of much higher-profile titles. The smarter move–the move I intend to
make–is to find more favorable terrain to engage on, terrain where I won’t be
swarmed by quite so much competition for attention. April is going to be very
quiet; that’s the point of engagement I want.

The Steam Game and Player
Statistics page show a couple of new user records for Valve's online
service. This shows that yesterday there were 8,665,266 concurrent users on
Steam, breaking the 8.5 million user record
set last month, though
the exact number may be revised, as we noticed the record reported last month
changed a couple of times after it was first posted. This also lists a peak user
count for Dota 2 of 1,060,082, which
Polygon says is a record for the service, though it pales in comparison to
League of Legends, as in 2012 the
rival MOBA reported a daily peak of three million users.
Evolve debuts at number two on the
GfK Chart-Track PC top 30 chart for the week ending February 14th, as it
couldn't dislodge Football Manager 2015 from the top spot. Turtle Rock's
new shooter does debut at number one on the
all platforms chart, where three of the top four games are new, with The
Legend of Zelda: Major's Mask 3D checking in at number two and Monster
Hunter 4 Ultimate enters the chart at number four. Here's
the write-up: The
All Formats chart receives a much needed boost with 2K/Take 2’s ‘Evolve’ leading
the pack of new debutants and taking the No1 crown.
Xbox One just edges the format share by a mere 1% with fewer than 400 sales
between the two Gen 8 versions, while PC accounts for just 3% of boxed units.
For Take 2 it’s their first chart topping title that’s not part of the Grand
Theft Auto franchise since ‘Bioshock Infinite’ back in March 2013. With the
release of new Nintendo 3DS & 3DS XL consoles giving a 57% boost to hardware
this week, it’s no surprise that two new 3DS titles debut in the Top 5. ‘The
Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D’ lands at No2 and is the biggest selling
single format title of the week. ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (+14%) is
forced down to third place despite promotions driving strong sales. The second
monster hunting title in the chart this week is the aptly named ‘Monster Hunter
4 Ultimate’, which makes its mark at No4. The title’s week 1 sales are an
impressive 95% up on predecessor ‘Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’ as the series
starts to gain real traction in the West. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-7%) and ‘FIFA
15’ (-1%) are both down 3 places to No5 and No6 respectively.
A colossal sales push driven by retailer promotions pushes Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 4’
(+128%) up two places to No7. Familiar face ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-13%) is
at No8 although ‘Minecraft: PlayStation Edition’ (-9%) slips to No11. Assassin’s
Creed: Unity’ (-16%) and ‘Destiny’ (+3%) round off the Top 10 at No9 and
No10.
Happy President's Day, as that is what today is here in the U.S., celebrated by
low, low prices. I have decided I have failed to properly observe this over the
years, as being El Presidente for life around here, I should be having a parade
for myself or something. Actually I have a good way to celebrate, as I picked up
some grass-fed ground beef yesterday to make some hamburgers. It's currently two
below zero here, so I think I'll probably do this inside, as Manstovia is a
frozen tundra.
