Techland announces plans for a free content update for Dying Light, saying this
will add a new Hard Mode to the zombie game along with other changes. They don't
specify when this will be released, but say it will be the first of several free
content updates. Here's word: As a part of its long-term support program
for Dying Light, Techland today revealed the first details about upcoming new
content for the game. Several free content updates will be released in the
coming months to ensure that all Dying Light players can find new experiences to
enjoy. The core highlight of the first update will be the frequently requested
Hard Mode.
"A few gamers have already finished Dying Light and are asking for more. So
we’re going to give our community a new challenge that will put everything they
learnt in the game to the test. Hard Mode is exactly that. We’re aiming to have
it out around the start of March, if not sooner. Depends on how brutal we wanna
make this on people" – Tymon SmektaBa, Producer.
Hard mode will feature various changes to the gameplay, including: ramped up
nighttime difficulty, deadlier and more vicious foes, increased need for stealth
and silence, scarce resources and supplies, & plenty of other additions. The
first content update will also bring many
improvements to the gameplay and a number of new character outfits. The update
will be available on all platforms in the near future.
Kotaku has word of layoffs at Daybreak Game Company, the developer known as
Sony Online Studios before the unit was sold last
week, saying these include David Georgeson, the face of the EverQuest
franchise. This was first posted as a rumor, but they subsequently received the
following statement from Daybreak confirming the cuts: As part of a
strategic decision to rationalize the business, Daybreak Game Company announced
today that it will eliminate positions in both its San Diego and Austin studios.
This alignment of resources better positions the newly independent studio for
future growth opportunities and developments, including delivering on its legacy
of making top online games and establishing a solid foundation for future
multi-platform success. These reductions will not affect the operation of
current games and the company will continue on its mission to partner with its
player community to drive the future and push the boundaries of online
gaming.

on Steam shows a little
over $60.00 worth of skins are offered for the Windows edition. Thanks nin.

GOG.com puts out the call for help in stress-testing their new Galaxy
multiplayer system starting tomorrow. Here's word: Our venture into GOG Galaxy started not too long ago, so far our infrastructure
supports online multiplayer for
Aliens vs
Predator Classic 2000,
Double Dragon Trilogy
and of course The
Witcher Adventure Game. It's been pretty smooth sailing, but there is still
so much ahead of us. We want to learn everything we can about our infrastructure
under a lot of stress, how much we can handle before weird stuff starts to
happen. That means plenty of people doing all kinds of things at once - rolling
dice, beating up baddies, killing aliens.
We're going to be hanging out in-game, and we'd like you to join us in trying to
break our servers.
-We want to throw everything we can at our infrastructure. We'd like you to help
us break it on Thursday, February 12 starting at 4:00 PM GMT. No worries if
you're late, we'll be at it for a while.
You can check your local time right here!
-Simply launch your GOG.com copy of Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000, Double
Dragon Trilogy, The Witcher Adventure Game, join an existing multiplayer game or
create your own, and have a good time! We'll be there too.
Once you've had a chance to play, let us know how your online experience went,
and what we can do to improve it (keep in mind we're not testing the games
themselves, but the online infrastructure). You can vent, praise, and anything
in between, right here in this forum thread. We'll be watching!

A new Playtonic Games website
introduces this newly formed studio composed of former employees of Rare. Though things are at an early stage,
they reveal
development of a game codenamed Project Ukulele, which
CVG says is coming to PCs. Playtonic calls this a
"worthy spiritual successor to those fondly remembered platforming adventures we
built in the past,"
with a tweet
indicating this is a Banjo-Kazooie successor. Here's word: Ahem.
Currently we’re a sextet of artists, programmers and designers – sort of like
The Pussycat Dolls with computer science degress – with one thing in common; we
were all once core member of famous UK studio Rare, where we helmed franchises
such as Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong Country and Viva Piñata.
We’ve got the bloke who programmed Donkey Kong Country, the character designer
behind Banjo and Kazooie, and the artist who made your console fit to burst with
lavish environments across a decade’s worth of adventure games.
Together, our all-star ensemble is aiming to build its debut game, ‘Project
Ukulele’, into a worthy spiritual successor to those fondly remembered
platforming adventures we built in the past.
By now, you might be thinking, ‘hold on mate, didn’t you make similar claims
after drinking too many shandies in the pub in 2012, you muppet?’ Perhaps. But
this time it’s real! We’re making a real, proper, actual game. Look: we even
managed to trick convince Edge magazine to do us some pages!
You can read all about our venture and see the first artwork for our game in
Edge issue 277,
which is on sale from February 12.
The Keen Software House
forum announces that they are now offering extra-early access to Medieval
Engineers for 24 hours before the game enters actual early access via
Steam. They are offering this in two forms on the
Keen E-shop, the basic game or a deluxe
edition which includes the soundtrack, and though they say they will also sell
Space Engineers/Medieval Engineers bundles and four-packs, but neither is
available yet. They also offer a discount for Space Engineers owners: "Important
note: Medieval Engineers will come with 25% two-week discount period for
everyone who owns Space Engineers. However, during the 24-hour pre-launch window
the discount will apply only for those who purchased Space Engineers through our
eshop (we would love to be more helpful here, but unfortunately our eshop has no
information about your Steam purchases)." Thanks Wastey.
Matrix Games announces March 5th is the release date for Vietnam '65,
the upcoming strategy game which takes players into the Vietnam War before it
jumped the shark. They plan to celebrate the news today with a livestream on the
Slitherine Twitch channel at
1:00 pm EST. Word is the game is now in the late beta testing phase:
Early 1965 – the Cold War turned hot in Southeast Asia. The US Army
dispatches men and military equipment to prevent Vietnam falling under communist
dominance. It was the beginning of an unconventional conflict in which
technology and resources were not enough to ensure victory. By mastering the
jungle terrain and conducting guerrilla operations such as ambushes and raids,
the Viet Cong managed to disrupt US plans and resist this giant superpower!
Vietnam ’65, the new counter-insurgency strategy game by Every Single Soldier,
aims to capture the essence of the Vietnam War. At the head of the US forces,
the player will have to forget what they have learnt from other strategy games
and think differently to achieve victory. Building a safe logistics chain,
gathering intelligence from the local villagers, calling in air support on time,
revealing the Ho Chi Minh trail, and minimizing casualties will be crucial to
securing political support and eliminating the invisible Viet Cong threat!
Thanks to fruitful weeks of in-depth testing, the game has now entered its late
beta phase. So the time for traditional war will come to an end on March 05th,
the official release date of Vietnam ’65!
A
post to Battle.net has word that Blizzard has found The Lost
Vikings, and they will serve as units in Heroes of the Storm, their sort-of MOBA
(thanks
Polygon). A
new trailer shows them
off in the game, and here's the explanation: The Lost Vikings are back!
While they briefly considered retirement after defeating the emperor Tomator,
there were only so many polar bears they could wrestle before falling into a
Nexus portal seemed like a solid life decision.
The Lost Vikings are an iconic triad from the early days of Blizzard’s history,
and in Heroes of the Storm, they are three specialists in one, who each have
their own unique strengths and abilities. This triple trouble trio is a just the
rowdy bunch you’ll want by your side when you take it to your foes in the Nexus!
For an even more in-depth look into these iconic Blizzard Heroes and their
abilities, make sure to check out
the Lost
Vikings’ Hero Page! Continue here to read the full story.
It's crazy cold out there, and my back is still a little sore from shoveling
snow yesterday (which managed to throw off my whole day), but I've got spring
fever after noticing that there was still some daylight as it approached 6:00
pm. The official sundown time is listed a closer to 5:30, but this is in stark
contrast to just a few weeks ago when it was almost pitch black out there at
4:30, which is a bummer. It's amazing what a little serotonin can do.
