Exile forums has an update on Race Season 10 in the action/RPG along with
the announcement of the release of a new version 1.3.0k patch (thanks
Massively). They also call out some cheaters, saying as of today, 3912
players are getting a warning over the cheating software detected on their
systems. For some reason they are choosing to warn these users about bans,
rather than banning them outright. Here's word:
There will be no further warnings. All incidents that didn't result in bans
before this post have been treated as warnings, but from this point forward we
will close accounts that run cheating software.
Many people have asked us to clarify our stance on what people are allowed to
run. The list is pretty much this:
- Single-action hotkeys (like an alt+f4 macro)
- Tools that don't require the client to be running,
like Procurement
We don't want to hear "I was only running the tool for QOL improvements". If
you got the warning, you had the maphack turned on (or worse). Frequently
requested quality of life issues will be addressed, don't worry!

on Elemental Evil, the newest storyline Wizards of the Coast is
introducing to the role-playing series. This includes
a link

Neverwinter, the online version of the RPG, but for now the link leads to the
Neverwinter overview which contains nothing about the expansion. Their
announcement does provide some details on this, however, including word it will

stay alive.
Developer Robotoki has ceased
operations for the time being, and development of Human Element is "on hiatus,"
reports
Joystiq (thanks nin). Robotoki is a startup formed by Robert Bowling after
his departure from Infinity
Ward where he served as evangelist for the Call of Duty series. Human Element
is a zombie game meant to be their debut release, but the announcement
late last year that
Robotoki was breaking from publisher Nexon and that Human Element was no longer
planned as a free-to-play title have created the need for additional funding.
Here's the statement from Bowling: "This week we have ceased operations at
Robotoki and the development of Human Element is on hiatus," Bowling told us in
a statement. "We were actively negotiating a new publishing deal for the premium
version of Human Element but unfortunately I was unable to continue to self-fund
development until a deal was finalized." Update: The original version of this story repeatedly referred to Human Element as Almost Human. Apologies for the error and the sloppiness.

Paradox Interactive announces the chance for Europa Universalis IV to
travel the road to El Dorado next month, as they announce plans for an El
Dorado expansion for the grand strategy sequel (apologies for referring to it as
an RTS game), saying this will be released next month for
Windows, OS X, and Linux. As the title implies, this is loosely based on Spain's
obsession with gold in the new world, and their friendly ventures into Central
and South America to hunt for it while also teaching the native populations
European hospitality. The add-on will also introduce Nation Designer, a new tool
to allow the customization of your starting nation. There are screenshots on the
Europa Universalis IV website
along with an announcement
teaser trailer, though this doesn't offer much. Here's word: Legends
tell of a great city deep in the jungle. It is rich in all the pleasures of
mankind, and is so full of gold that the residents count this metal as nothing.
The daring explorer that finds this city will bring glory to his king – and
infinite riches to his pocket. Now Paradox Development Studio brings the
adventure and politics of the Spanish conquest to life with the El Dorado
expansion for Europa Universalis IV.
The centerpiece of El Dorado is the Nation Designer, a tool that let’s you
customize your starting nation in a campaign. Choose your starting capital and
neighboring provinces, modify your starting culture and leader and then lead
this new nation to new and original heights of glory. The infinite replayability
of EU4 has just gotten even more infinite, if that’s possible (the company
mathematician is still on holiday).
This expansion’s historical focus on the Central American and South American
theaters of exploration will challenge you with new decisions worthy of a king
or conqueror. As the Aztecs, subject the Mexican plain to your rule but make
sure you have enough vassal kings to sacrifice to your angry gods. As the
Europeans, push deeper into the jungles of the Amazon, following rumors of lost
cities and magical fountains. Defer to the Pope as he intervenes to divide the
New World among squabbling empires.
Features include:
- A deep Nation Designer gives you new starting
options for your games, including national ideas and custom monarchs
- Experience the new Nahuatl, Inti and Mayan
religions with blood sacrifices or Sun Worship
- Send your conquistadors to hunt for the Seven
Cities of Gold, or your explorer on exploration missions around the world
- Gold Fleets can traffic New World wealth back to
Europe, and be targeted by your privateer fleets
- Use your trade fleets to hunt dangerous pirates
- Maintain good relations with the Pope so you can
get a corner of the world to call your own in the Treaty of Tordesillas

The BioWare Blog
offers notes for a version 1.03 patch in the works for the Windows edition
of Dragon Age: Inquisitions, their RPG sequel, saying "our primary focus
was on fixing bugs, particularly ones that blocked progression or hampered the
player experience." They don't specify when this will go live, but offer a
detailed description: "We targeted several issues in multiplayer, fixing the
case that caused keys to not drop, as well as fixing issues with the Reaver’s
rampage ability. There were also some balance changes, including tweaks to the
Demon Commander and the Strength of Spirits ability to make it more useful. We
added some much-requested features, including key binding that allows walking
for PC and push-to-talk functionality in the multiplayer end of match summary
and armor upgrade menus. We also added a new multiplayer Destruction route, and
players can now challenge themselves in the fiery Elven Ruins." Here are the
notes: From a development standpoint, Patch 3 was a small, bug-fix only
patch to address some high-frequency issues affecting the majority of our
players.
General
Added key binding that allows players to walk.
Added mouse cursor scaling.
Fixed issue that could result in the mouse getting stuck in mouse-look mode when
players alt-tabbed out of the game in full-screen mode.
Fixed display bars to correctly reflect items that alter maximum health.
Single-Player
Changed party banter system to be less random to prevent extra-long periods
where no conversations would occur.
Fixed issue that could result in one of Dorian’s conversations not being
available for some players. Continue here to read the full story.
The
Daily Dot presents the case that a professional Counter-Strike match
last summer was fixed, as elite American team iBUYPOWER lost what "should have been an easy match" against NetcodeGuides.com. They say that for
some reason this was revealed in advance by one of the participants to "a young
esports journalist," who shared screengrabs of the conversation, but they are
only reporting this information now after receiving "new corroborating details
from multiple sources that strongly indicate the game was fixed." There are
statements from various parties involved in the scene, and the site says that they
have verified that incriminating bets were placed on the match on behalf of
participants, as apparently betting on eSports is actually a thing, in spite of
the obvious potential for stories like this one. Thanks
MCV.
A new short virtual reality adventure game called InMind is now available
as a free download on Steam,
offering an experience specifically designed for Oculus Rift DK1/DK2, though a
VR unit is not mentioned in the system specs, which cover Windows, Linux, and OS
X. Though developer Nival VR (a new subsidiary of Nival Interactive) doesn't
mention Fantastic Voyage,
the game sounds like it is inspired by the 1966 sci-fi movie: "With the help of
nanotechnologies a surgical prototype bathyscaphe allows its operator to shrink
to a microlevel and travel inside the patient's body."
This video shows off
gameplay, and here's word: "This first demo allows players to experience the
journey into the patient's brain in search of neurons that cause mental
disorder. Submerge into the microworld and experience the miracles of the human
mind!" The accompanying quote from the developer stresses the educational
aspects of this: “Virtual reality opens new exciting opportunities for
the gaming industry,” said Sergey Orlovskiy, CEO and founder of Nival. “We have
long-term history as a developer and believe that games can be much more than
just entertainment. As well as education can also mean fun. Our aim is to
combine both – education and entertainment. Previous attempts of gamification
were not convincing enough. We invested our experience as a game developer and
our funds in the new concept. InMind is the first step in this direction. We
have already shown our results to the members of the academic community and are
excited to share our vision with the wide audience.”
GameBlast is a
gaming marathon slated for February 20-22 to raise money for gamers with
disabilities. Developer Jagex announces that this year their support of this
event will center around Block N Load, their action game currently in
beta on Steam. "The
Ace of Spades: Battle Builder community were really supportive during
GameBlast14, so we can’t wait to see how the burgeoning Block N Load player base
performs this year," says David Solari, vice president of Jagex. "We’re
currently in the beta phase of development, so the 24-hour GameBlast marathon
will really put the game through its paces ahead of its launch!"
There's a
postmortem on Gamasutra where design director Michael de Plater looks back
at Monolith's development of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, their
Tolkien-inspired action game. He discusses what went right, such as the Nemesis
System, core gameplay and controls, and usability, as well as what went wrong,
including the process of combining a couple of smaller development teams into a
larger one, though this turns out well, as he says: "We didn’t just make a game,
we also made a great team."

The Monday Night Mutants completed the Long Way To The Top mission from the
Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage DLC for Borderlands 2. I just have
this to say: Badassasaurus? Really? I won't expand on that comment to avoid
spoiling it for those who haven't played it yet, but those who have will know
why I express mystification about this boss battle.
