Steam now offers a
playable demo for Trials Fusion, the stunt motorcycle game from RedLynx
(thanks Frans). Here's word on what this offers: Players have access to four tracks from the single-player campaign, along with
the first two tutorial levels. They also have access to the Editor for track
creation and to the lower level rider gear.
GameSpot spoke at CES with Kevin Wasielewski, CEO of PC maker Origin PC, learning that
after several revisions, the design for Valve's Steam controller has been
finalized. He tells them the controller is off to production, and that Valve will make more
announcements about this at the upcoming Game Developers Conference. He also
tells them that he thinks the term "Steam Machine" is falling out of favor. "I
think that's kind of pretty much dead," he said of the term Steam Machine. "It's
like a living room PC--is now the new term. Living room PCs have been around
forever. That's not anything new either. But it seems like there's a legitimate
demand and push for living room PCs."
Steam is once again offering sales of
Aliens vs. Predator [2010]
and Aliens: Colonial
Marines following about a week when
neither
game was sold on the service (thanks
GameInformer). Neither SEGA nor Valve commented on the removal of the games,
and likewise there is no explanation about their return.
A tweet from
Rick Pasqualone has a hint that news may be coming soon about the Mafia
franchise, possibly word about plans for Mafia III. Pasqualone is the
actor who voiced Vito Scaletta and Giuseppe in Mafia II, and when
asked
about his Christmas he
replied,
"very nice. Thanks. Might have some Mafia news very soon!" A
more
recent tweet says simply "make mafia 3," and to that
he
replied, "might have exciting news very soon." A third installment in the
organized crime series has not been announced, though it has been rumored to be
in development. About a year ago 2K Games
confirmed a restructuring at 2K Czech, rumored to be the Mafia 3 developer.
Thanks
All Games Beta.
A forum
post from the Community Manager of Suba informs us that the publisher has
heard
the
requests for someone to step in and revive Wizardry Online, and is
exploring the possibility of doing so (thanks
Massively). Sony Online Entertainment was operating this MMORPG based on the
Sir-Tech RPG series, but about a year ago
announced it was shutting it down along with a few other MMOGs. Here's the
post, which came around three weeks ago: Afternoon everyone, it's always
great to see people passionate enough to pool together and try to have their
voices heard. In this case i want to let you know you all have been heard and
Suba is interested in reviving this game. They have actually made contact with
the developer but have yet to conclude an outcome with them yet.
That is all the news i am able to offer at this point in time. I also want you
all to know each suggestion brought to Subagames is considered and thought about
respectively. Feel free to continue bringing game suggestions to Suba, whether
it's to revive a game or for Subagames to simply acquire for themselves to
publish.

Nordic Games announces they will publish a physical retail edition of
Broken Age this spring for
Windows; OS X; and Linux, coinciding with the digital release of the second part
of Double Fine's point-and-click adventure game. Word is this will include new
localized content for their native Germany: "After releasing Costume Quest,
Psychonauts and Stacking for retail in 2014, this marks another important step
in our almost heist-free cooperation”," said Reinhard Pollice of Nordic Games.
"With Broken Age, 2015 starts off great for aficionados of the adventure game
genre. Our intel also suggests that Germany is a veritable stronghold when it
comes to pointing and clicking, hence the new German voice-overs for Broken Age
make us very happy."
Daedalic Entertainment announces plans to publish "multiple new games in the
future" from developer Funatics, the studio behind the Cultures series,
Panzer General Online, and UFO Online. Their first project is a
strategy game that's expected this year, and Daedalic says more details
including the game's title should be revealed soon. "Funatics is a big constant
in the German developer scene. Since 1998 the team already produced a lot of
well-known games and Thomas was just placed in the Hall of Fame at last
December’s Deutscher Entwicklerpreis 2014," says Carsten Fichtelmann, founder
and CEO of Daedalic Entertainment. "We are very happy that we can realize their
next projects and distribute them globally. Funatics proved more than once that
they produce fabulous simulations and the new title will be another great
addition to its genre as well as to our portfolio."
WIRED has details
on Razer's new Forge TV units, a set-top box that can natively play Android
games and also stream games wirelessly over your home network. This coincides
with the launch of Razer
Cortex: Stream, new software to allow streaming to an Android TV. They say
this will support all DirectX 9 games, and that they have a proprietary game
streaming codec which provides "ultra low latency." Here are the
particulars: Bring all your PC Games to your Living Room
Play your favorite PC titles while lounging on your couch, without the need for
an entire PC rig near your TV. Razer Cortex: Stream is connected to Razer Cortex
on your PC, and streams your entire library directly onto your Android TV
console, so you’ll be able to enjoy fully functional responsive controls as you
game in your living room.
Ultra-Low Latency due to Proprietary Encoding
Developed specifically for streaming and remote gameplay, Razer Cortex: Stream
uses a proprietary encoding technology to bring you the lowest latency possible.
Now, you no longer need to be frustrated by rubber-banding or screen freezes as
you enjoy the most reactive gameplay possible.
Crystal-Clear Resolution - Play in 1080p
Dominate in phenomenal clarity as Razer Cortex: Stream streams your game in up
to 1080p at 60 frames per second. With a router that supports up to 6 MBs, Razer
Cortex: Stream allows you to game in full-HD, and by intelligently adjusting the
resolution according to your current bandwidth, you can be sure you’ll have
nothing short of peak performance every time.
Today will be the first real test for my long undies and other cold weather
gear, as it's below 20°F out there, and the wind chill is at 5°F. A better test
still would come tonight, as they are forecasting the wind chill to be as low as
-15°F, but I'll probably forego that opportunity. Hopefully the cold weather
won't daunt the cable guy, as I have an appointment for him to come by today and
see if he can figure out what's causing me to suffer these little bitty outages
that cause glitches in games and buffering in streaming video. These are very
annoying, but also very intermittent, which hopefully will not overcomplicate
getting to the root of the problem.
