A
post on the Accidental Scientist drops some accidental knowledge on us which
may or may not be actual science. This delves into what now seems like an
age-old question of frame-rates in video games and movies and another go at
figuring out what makes some moving images seem smoother than others. They take
the concept of
ocular microtremors to formulate a hypothesis that a certain framerate must
be achieved for artificial images to take advantage of the way the eye works.
Even if this turns out to be off-base, as a result of the article
going viral, a bunch of links have been appended to it with all sorts of
research on the topic. Thanks
Ant.
Happy Christmas to all who are celebrating. The weather around here remains
warm, but there's a little cold to be found, as I seem to have caught one along
the way. As I say, so far it's a little cold, and it hasn't really prevented any
celebrating yet. Yesterday was a holiday movie day, which ran the gamut from
traditional (
White Christmas) to subversive (
Bad Santa) with a
stop in-between (
Scrooged) for good measure. Hopefully I'll keep on
trucking along, and hopefully you will as well, while staying safe and warm.
