Archived News:
Survarium forums offer an insider word on what the
revived GSC Game World is up to, saying the Ukrainian developer is working on
Cossacks 3, a new installment in their real-time strategy series. This
will come as a disappointment for those hoping for a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game,
and while this is neither official nor confirmed, but it does come from Joe
Willburn of Vostok Games and formerly of GSC Game World, so it appears quite
credible. He says: "Don't get over excited. GSC is simply producing and
publishing a new Cossacks game. Cossacks 3. When asked how he knows this, he
simply replied: "Inside information." Thanks Rhialto.
Here's a new video
from Total War: ATTILA showing off the upcoming installment in Creative
Assembly's strategy series. Here's the scoop, hun: "A new spotlight video is
live now on the Total War YouTube Channel, in which Creative Assembly takes a
deeper look into Army Management systems in development for Total War: ATTILA.
With more depth and greater control over generals and military forces, TW ATTILA
allows players to craft the perfect war machine to complement their campaign
strategy. However, in dark times such as these, players would be wise to keep a
keen eye on the integrity of their armies, and if necessary consider extreme
measures to uphold it." Continue here to read the full story.
- Shadowrun Returns on
Kickstarter. "A Preview of Our New Setting: Coming to Kickstarter in
January 2015!"
The GeForce website

64-bit Windows and
32-bit Windows. The
newest "Game Ready" drivers are said to provide "the best possible gaming

A thread on NeoGAF
has an outraged reaction to the removal of DSfix from Dropbox due to a Digital
Millennium Copyright Act notification from BANDAI NAMCO Games Germany (it was actually BANDAI NAMCO Europe). Users are
up in arms over the idea that the publisher would quash a utility that overcomes
technical shortcomings in the Windows port of Dark Souls, especially
since it does not actually contain any infringing content that would justify a
DMCA takedown. This ends well, however, as it turns out the takedown was a
mistake from a company hired to wipe out illegal debug mode content for the
action/RPG that ended up pursuing this task a little overzealously, and the
program is to be once again be legally available to all. Thanks Jago.
The Team Fortress 2
blog has details on a new Smissmas update that's live in the teamplay
shooter. This includes "stocking stuffers," new "festive" weapons, new
cosmetic items, as well as an all new beta gameplay mode. Word is: "We've also
made a change to MvM loot drops. Specifically, in addition to the usual
Botkiller drops, there's now a chance to get Australium weapons (including the
incredibly rare Golden Frying Pan) to all advanced and expert MvM tours. The
tours affected by this loot drop change are Steel Trap, Mecha Engine and Gear
Grinder." A separate
update has details on the new beta Mannpower Mode, and Valve hedges their
bets by stressing how this is still in beta. This sounds a lot like QUAKE CTF,
as it entails grappling hooks and powerups. Here's a bit on what it involves
from the FAQ: What's Mannpower Mode?
It's an in-beta CTF-like game mode with grappling hooks and nine different types
of powerups. (A lot of this will change during this mode's development. We'll be
tweaking rules and adding/subtracting powerups as we go.) It's currently
playable in modified versions of Ctf_foundry and Ctf_gorge.
Mannpower alters a few game rules. For one, random critical hits have been
disabled. Additionally, teams won't be able to capture the enemy flag unless
your flag is at your base. (When your flag is away from your base, you can touch
it to instantly return it to base.)
What was that part about grappling hooks?
Right, that! There's a grappling hook available to all classes in Mannpower
Mode. You can equip it in your action slot and use it by switching to slot 6.
Press fire to shoot out a hook. As soon as it hits something, it’ll start to
reel you in. Release the fire button when you want to detach.
Interdimensional Games announces
CONSORTIUM: The Tower Prophecy, a sequel to CONSORTIUM, saying
both are part of what will ultimately be a trilogy of tower defense games. Like
the first CONSORTIUM, the sequel will be crowd-funded, as they say we should
expect a Kickstarter at some point after the new year. "We have taken all of the
awesome feedback we've received from CONSORTIUM players over the past year and
applying it directly to the design of the sequel", says iDGi founder Gregory
MacMartin. "The Tower Prophecy is designed to be a stand-alone experience that
will not require the first game to fully enjoy. However, for players that
finished CONSORTIUM, all of their universe statistics, decisions and inventory
will carry over and heavily influence how The Tower Prophecy plays out." Here's
word on the game: CONSORTIUM: The Tower Prophecy" takes place on December
21st, 2042 in the heart of downtown London. Civilian hostages have been taken by
terrorists with a dubious agenda in the Churchill Tower, a thousand meter high
skyscraper built over the River Thames. Bishop Six (the player) has been tasked
with skydiving in from the Consortium command vessel ZENLIL above the clouds and
rescuing the hostages. Players will soon begin to realize that nothing about the
mission or the situation is what it seems...

Happy Festivus! Here's a grievance to air... it struck me that someone out there
was probably (or definitely) selling Festivus poles. Sure enough, it was easy to
find them on Amazon, but in general these are from folks looking to charge
$50.00-$60.00 for itty-bitty "poles." The good news is that if you just search
for an aluminum pole without specifying Festivus, a world of options opens up,
including ski poles, tent poles, and most promising of all, flag poles. I got on
this too late for this year, but next year I might just have a real Festivus
pole. Or maybe not, as a year is a long time to rethink this.
