Hatred Gets Steam Redlight

Steam Greenlight Campaign for Hatred mentioned earlier today is no longer active, as visiting the page for the campaign now returns the error. Assassin's Creed Unity Patch 4 "on Hold"

A status report on Assassin's Creed Unity has word that a fourth patch for Ubisoft's stealth/action sequel that was expected today is "on hold." The Live Update Team explains:

Rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us, and your feedback over these past weeks has indicated that it is important to you as well.

As stated last week, we’d expected to release the patch today (and we know that many are anticipating its release), but we are choosing to hold off until we can give you the improvements we’ve promised. We are committed to delivering major performance improvements, which requires that we refurbish the Paris map and that will take a few more days to hit the high level of quality our players deserve.

Thank you very much for your understanding and continued patience.

Leaked Win10 Reveals Xbox App

The Verge is engaging in a little piracy-fuelled journalism, reporting the discovery of an Xbox app in a leaked build of Windows 10, also noting Cortana is integrated into the upcoming operating system that was never known as Windows 9. However, it sounds like while this will offer access to Xbox dashboard functions, it will not include the ability to play games:

Elsewhere there’s also a new Xbox app. It appears to act as a gateway to the entire Xbox ecosystem, including access to achievements, friends lists, activity feeds, and the Store. Microsoft notes that it’s an early preview of the app, so it may well include SmartGlass integration in future. It’s also a first glimpse at how the software maker is designing its native Windows 10 apps, and the calculator app has been updated in a similar way.

Warhammer Quest Announced

Independent publisher Chilled Mouse announces Warhammer Quest, a turn-based strategy game coming on January 7th to Windows, OS X, and Linux via Steam, where it is now available for pre-purchase. From all appearances this is a desktop version of a game based on Games Workshop's fantasy series that is already available for iPhone and iPad. Here's word:

Independent publisher Chilled Mouse today announced a partnership with Games Workshop and Rodeo Games to bring Warhammer Quest to Windows PC, Mac and Linux via digital distribution service Steam on January 7th, 2015. Based on the classic Games Workshop board game, and set in the Warhammer Fantasy world, the turn based strategy game allows players to control a team of heroes and explore hidden dungeons around the borders of the Empire in a mix of adventure, strategy and role-playing.

“As massive fans of the Warhammer universe, we have spent our development time working with Rodeo Games and focusing on what made Warhammer Quest such a great table top game,” said Ian Baverstock, Director of Chilled Mouse. “With truly unique hero characters, epic role-playing action, awesome loot and randomly generated dungeons, Warhammer Quest is a true digital incarnation of its namesake”.

Lead a party of brave adventurers through the dangerous winding dungeons of the Warhammer world in the search for wealth and glory, as players uncover and explore new settlements. In their quest for legendary weapons, players encounter enemies including evil Night Goblins, dangerous Orcs, gigantic River Trolls and hordes of the evil Skaven, hellbent on destroying the band of adventurers.

Through encounters and exploration, heroes level up their skills and quickly gain new abilities, spells and blessings as they battle it out to become one of the Heroes of Legend and fight such devilish foes playing as the Marauder, Wood Elf Waywatcher, Dwarf IronBreaker and the Grey Wizard.

Approaching Infinity & Demo Arrive

Shrapnel Games announces the release of Approaching Infinity, a roguelike-like space adventure for Windows and OS X. The game is on sale in their online store, where there is also a playable demo to check out. Here's the deal:

Galactic Gamers everywhere are vigorously rubbing their hands together and excitedly cracking their knuckles. The anticipation is over! With great fanfare, Shrapnel Games is pleased to announce the release of Approaching Infinity from developer Ibology

Approaching Infinity is a single-player, turn based graphical sci-fi rogue-like game set in a unique and truly infinite universe. With rich retro-graphics provided by David Gervais and a full original soundtrack by ectogemia, Approaching Infinity immerses the gamer in an intergalactic drama of exploration and adventure. This is a game of planetary investigation, starship battles, diplomacy, crafting, commodity trading, bunny petting and so much more.

The amount of adventures one can have is limited only by the player's desire. Within space itself asteroids can be mined, pirates evaded or destroyed, SOS beacons discovered, and so much more. Your starship will encounter planets, drifting derelict starships, and alien embassies. Planets can hold treasure or death (or both). Away teams can discover ancient artifacts, explorable caves, or zombies in the darkened corridors of a floating hulk. There are twelve alien races to interact with, each with their own histories and quests.

Full modding support means that Approaching Infinity is really Approaching Infinity Plus. Enjoy creating your own favorite sci-fi franchise, all without the need of coding experience. A Modding Guide is now available on the Official Approaching Infinity Product Page.

SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition Early Access

SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition is now available for early access on Steam, offering a throwback RPG for Windows. And while some developers mean 8-bit or even 16-bit graphics when they say throwback, Black Shell Games takes that a step farther, as this game is presented entirely in ASCII. The game is 37% off during early access, and here's more on what to expect:

As the world's first fully-ASCII game to grace the Steam platform, SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition is a humorous and strategic turn-based dungeon crawling adventure. Drawing heavy inspiration from both Roguelikes and Japanese RPGs, the game was meticulously designed to offer a truly compelling role-playing experience complete with a robust action-rpg inspired combat system.

Black Edition builds upon the classic SanctuaryRPG formula with all new procedurally generated artwork, as well as a plethora of areas to explore, races to experiment with, skills to master, and loot to collect. Whether you're a valiant hero or a dastardly villain, the fate of Sanctuary is in your hands.

Out of the Blue

London Calling, yeah I was there too. And you know what they said? Well some of it was true!

Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of the release of London Calling, the Clash's masterpiece album. For perspective, the noteworthy album 35 years before London Calling was released in 1979 was, well, nothing, because the first LP record didn't even appear until 1948. And the album was prescient, as phony Beatlemania has indeed bitten the dust, though we certainly have enough other phony stuff to take its place.
