TopWare Interactive announces a setback for Raven's Cry, saying their
seafaring RPG is now expected to pull into port digitally on January 26th, with
a boxed retail version to follow on the 28th. The game was previously due before
Christmas, but they say they are not going to rush it out before its ready just
to beat that deadline: The release date for Raven’s Cry is being postponed
until January 28, 2015. We had hoped our dark pirate epic would be ready in time
for the Holidays, so those of you who buy it could put it under the Christmas
tree. But we’re not willing to rush things make any compromises with this
project, so we decided to give this complex RPG adventure a little bit more time
to make sure all the blades are nice and sharp, so to speak. After all, we owe
it to our fans, who have been waiting a long time for a such an exciting pirate
experience.
In addition, we’re going to be releasing some gameplay material from our dark
pirate adventure very soon, and even all the landlubbers will see that
Christopher Raven will soon be launching his quest for revenge on their hard
drives.
Hey! What did our hard drives ever do to Christopher Raven?
A huge PvP update is now live in an action/RPG as promised by its
developers, as
Path of Exile
is adding all sorts of PvP content (as opposed to Diablo III, which
failed to deliver on
promised PvP features upon launch, and has
not substantially lived up to this commitment
since then). The update
brings the launch of the first PvP season in the game, featuring the chance to
earn prestige and prizes, but PvP is only one aspect of the new patch, which is
said to contain hundreds of fixes.
This page has
a rundown on all the newness, and complete version 1.3.0 patch notes can be
found in their
forums. Here's an overview of the new content and the first season: PvP
Season One
Competing in tournaments awards players with points that accumulate towards
Alternate Art Unique Item prizes. PvP Tournaments are grouped into Seasons that
consist of a month of themed events. Weekdays contain free-for-all and blitz
events, while the weekends have larger tournaments with Swiss pairings and
awesome prizes from Grinding Gear Games' sponsors (Razer and KARMA KOIN: The
Online Game Card), which include a variety of hardware and online gaming
currency. Top players are invited to a special event at the end of the season to
battle for more prestige and prizes.
PvP-Only Characters
Dueling with level 28 characters is very popular within the Path of Exile
community -- so much so that it will run as the primary event type in Path of
Exile's first PvP season. Because the fun of PvP is in creating builds,
perfecting items, and destroying opponents, Path of Exile will include the
option to create a blank level 28 character that is only able to play PvP
matches. These PvP-only characters won't impact regular gameplay, but will allow
players to shortcut the process of trying out level 28 PvP builds and creating
characters for tournaments. Players will still need to acquire their equipment
in the core PvE game.
The GameAgent Blog has a new update on the status of
the promised Linux
and OS X editions of Civilization: Beyond Earth (thanks Ant via
[Phoronix]).
Word is the Windows patch released earlier this
week broke cross-platform play with the OS X edition, but
a new patch for
Mac users is now available to restore this. They also offer good news for
Linux gamers, saying recent breakthroughs have cleared up a lot of the issues
standing in the way of releasing this to the public. Word is this may come as
soon as next week: We were also able to successfully implement the
aforementioned patch into the Linux version just in time for launch. And the
launch should be very soon. We have now submitted the Linux version of
Civilization: Beyond Earth to all parties for approval! Assuming all goes well,
Linux users will be colonizing new planets just in time for Christmas (possibly
as soon as next week).
Night Dive Studios announces
the Steam re-release of the original Strife, the 1996 FPS/RPG from Rogue
Entertainment, which they are now calling The Original Strife: Veteran
Edition, hoping to avoid confusion with S2 Games' upcoming MOBA
called Strife, though this would arguably be the
fault of S2. The Veteran edition supports OS X and Linux as well as Windows, and
the game carries a 25% launch discount. Here's a refresher: In The
Original Strife: Veteran Edition, you are cast into a dark future where a
religious brotherhood called The Order rules supreme. You must face an army of
cyborgs who convert humans to swell their ranks. As part of the rebel forces,
you must collect and assemble all the pieces of The Sigil, an artifact of great
power. With The Sigil, you must defeat the leaders of The Order, including The
Programmer, The Bishop, and The Loremaster. But will The Sigil prove powerful
enough to defeat the force behind The Order, the mysterious being known as The
Entity?
Originally developed for MS-DOS and based on the Doom Engine, the game has been
re-mastered with enhanced graphics and is fully compatible with current PC
operating systems, including Windows 8/8.1, Mac and Linux.
Someone was honking their horn outside to get someone's attention in their house
this morning, so I went out to explain that the horn is not a doorbell (a pet
peeve of mine), especially early on the weekend. It turns out this was the same
neighbor with whom I had a confrontation with years ago about being noisy
outside with his kids at the crack of dawn on the weekend. This actually made me
go easier than I would have, and I think my simple question of "was that your
horn?" got my point across, as he seemed suitably apologetic.
Hey, it's
12/13/14 in U.S. date notation! Sorry Europe, unless they add a 13th month real
fast, you're left out of this one.
