An update to the
Double Fine Action Forums fills us in on release plans for part two of
Broken Age, their adventure game that was broken into two parts during
development (thanks
GameSpot). Word is they hope to have then entire second act as a playable
alpha by the end of this year and release the game early next year, and they
hope to come back with a firmer release date soon:
The goal now is to get
all the finale work done so we can hit Alpha on all of Act 2 by the end of the
year. That means, as you may have guessed based on recent updates and
documentary episodes, the Act 2 ship that will deliver the complete adventure is
now looking like it will be early next year. The game is looking really good and
the team is working super fast, but we just gotta give the game the time it
needs to really deliver on everything we’re hoping it will be.
Now that we have all the writing and design finalized and VO recorded, the
remainder of development is much easier to estimate, so the production team is
currently working to nail down a new schedule for finaling the game that we can
use as a goal for the team and also share with you all.
Steam now offers a
Defense Grid 2 Demo, a sample of this tower defense sequel which was
released with little fanfare a few days ago (thanks Frans). Steam doesn't always
include demo descriptions, but there is one in this instance since the demo has
a separate listing:
This demo includes the first chapter of Defense Grid 2. Defense Grid 2,
DG2, is the highly-anticipated sequel to Hidden Path Entertainment’s 2008
Defense Grid: The Awakening. Setting the bar as the definitive tower defense
game, Defense Grid 2 introduces new worlds and threats to test your tower
placement strategies. With a bold new look, a compelling single-player campaign,
and the addition of new game modes, online player-versus-player and multiplayer
co-op, every play-through brings fun new opportunities and challenges.
The most recent
Letter from the Chairman on the Roberts Space Industries website was just
four days ago, celebrating that
Star Citizen had passed the $63 million
crowd-funding mark. A surge of funding since then has already propelled the
space game's funding past the $65 million plateau, and while they reveal pets as
the $64 million goal, they have not yet readied the revelation of what the $65
million milestone adds to the game's open-ended design. Here's what they had to
say about this: "For those looking ahead to $65 million, we have a major feature
we’re investigating as an option. Suffice it to say, we’ve heard a lot of your
feedback about modular ships and we want to expand our plan for how to do them…
so check back next letter for more information!"

Apologies to those in the football pool for not throwing out a reminder to make
picks on Thursday, as I was a little caught up in the Thanksgiving festivities.
I did remember to make picks myself, but you couldn't tell by how I got one out
of six choices (three games times two pools) correct, so I barely even managed
to keep pace with anyone who forgot altogether.
