A tweet
from Alex Hutchinson has a little perspective from the Ubisoft Montreal
creative director on complaints about Far Cry 4 which turn out to be from
pirates (thanks nin via
Joystiq). Here's word: PC players! If you're online complaining about
the lack of FOV control ... You pirated the game.
A
new Kickstarter is now underway for Thimbleweed Park, a new adventure game from Ron Gilbert
and Gary Winnick, once mainstays at LucasArts where they co-designed Maniac
Mansion.
This trailer helps introduce the plan. The first goal of their fundraiser is
$375,000, and here is word on what they plan to do with the money: Ever
wonder what it would be like to play a classic adventure game the day it came
out and experience all the surprise and charm for the very first
time? Wonder no more!
Twenty-five years ago, Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick created the
game that introduced the world to 2D point & click adventure games.
Maniac Mansion
took the computer game world by storm with its compelling story, complex
puzzles, cutting edge humor, engaging game play, and provided an entire
generation with a new idea of what an adventure game could be. Blah blah blah...
And now they are back together with an all new 2D point & click
adventure game! Ron is skinny again and Gary had that rash looked at — and
they're here (finally!) to create the true spiritual successor to
Maniac Mansion and
Monkey
Island.
Thimbleweed Park is a new game that cuts to the core of what made classic
point & click adventure games so special, and done by the actual people who
spawned the genre.
It's deep, it's challenging, it's funny, it's everything you loved about
adventure games.
Holy crap is this going to be fun! And you can be part of it - right here and
right now for $20 bucks which is like $1.52 in 1987 dollars. Continue here to read the full story.
A Message from
J. Allen Brack has word for World of Warcraft subscribers that they will b
receiving five days of free time to compensate them for downtime surrounding the
launch of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Here's the heart of the message: To
help address this, we’ve expanded the new instancing tech we used to improve
queues on Saturday and we’re continuing the process of applying that to raise
the capacity of all realms again. This will result in approximately double the
prelaunch capacity on each realm, which should greatly reduce queue times for
most realms if not eliminate queues altogether.
In recognition of the difficulties so many of you ran into when trying to play
over the first few days, we're adding five days’ worth of extra time to every
subscription in the Americas, Oceania, and Europe that was active as of Friday,
November 14. Things are already in a much better place than they were going into
the weekend, so I hope you’ll now be able to focus on having a ton of fun with
this expansion.
I also hope you'll accept my apology and keep your faith in us. The support
voiced by many of you as we worked through the challenges was immensely
appreciated. We're extremely grateful to be part of such a passionate community.
We love World of Warcraft, and we're very proud of this expansion, so stumbling
out of the gates like this was very disappointing for all of us.

"Now available on Steam" edition:
Game Informer's Just Cause 3 announcement coverage continues with word that
Just Cause 3 will not ship with multiplayer, and any multiplayer support
the sandbox action sequel receives will come after release, similar to Just
Cause 2, which has a multiplayer mod created with Avalanche's blessings.
Studio cofounder Christofer Sundberg remains guarded on the topic at this time,
saying, "Maybe sometime down the line, we’ll take Rico into the modern world of
multiplaying." The article also talks with the creators of the Just Cause 2
multiplayer mod, who remain cagy, raising suspicions they may have plans they
are not revealing at this time. Shinra Technologies vice president of business
Jacob Navok has the following to say: "We’re working on a possible future
collaboration with Avalanche Studios." Game Informer may have more game
information they are not sharing as well, as despite the vagueness of all the
official statements, they come away saying they'd bet "not a small amount" that
MP support will eventually come to the game.
A post on
CarGamingBlog says a listing appeared on Amazon France for a PC edition of
Forza Horizon 2, the recently released console racing sequel. No release
date was offered, but they report the game was listed for Windows 7 and Windows
8. The entry as since been removed, and there's no indication if this was
because the listing this was in
error, or if it was an unintended revelation of a still-secret plan.
NVIDIA now offers new version 344.75 WHQL-certified Windows drivers for NVIDIA
accelerators. The rollout seems to still be in progress, as the
32-bit driver is
available, while the
64-bit driver seems to be missing for the moment. Word is: "The latest
GeForce Game Ready driver, release 344.75 WHQL, provides support for Maxwell’s
new Multi-Frame Sampled Anti-Aliasing (MFAA) mode. In addition, this Game Ready
WHQL driver ensures you'll have the best possible gaming experience for Far Cry
4, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Crew, and World of Warcraft: Warlords of
Draenor."
AMD support now offers a new Catalyst version 14.11.2 beta driver for
Windows, saying this will provide users with the best experience playing Far
Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Despite that recommendation, they
also warn that this is an unsupported release.
BioWare announces the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition for Windows and
consoles, providing a new installment in the action/RPG series. They note with
pride that the game "launches as one of the highest rated games for the new
generation of consoles," and show things off with a new
launch trailer. "Our
goal with Dragon Age: Inquisition was to bring players into the next-generation
of role playing games with an experience that is truly your own, all in an
immersive, visually stunning world," said Mark Darrah, Executive Producer. "It’s
the biggest story you can play this year, and finally all our years of hard work
is in the hands of players around the world." Nobody expects the Dragon Age
inquisition... it's three main weapons are: Dragon Age: Inquisition is
set in an epic, dark fantasy world where players are empowered to shape and
drive their experience. The game combines the storytelling legacy BioWare is
known for, with deep RPG gameplay, all on a brand new RPG game engine
underpinned by EA's cutting edge Frostbite™ 3 technology. Players will
experience the hallmarks BioWare is known for in Dragon Age: Inquisition
including a vast, overarching narrative that presents players with engrossing

A playable demo for Daedalus - No Escape is now available
on Steam, along with a
patch to update the game to version 1.0.7. This is a top-down shooter that
describes itself with the odd image of video games procreating: "If Quake 3
Arena and Alien Breed had a baby ... it would be named Daedalus - No Escape."
This post has details on the new patch as well as this rundown on what to
expect from the demo: Until now the demo of Daedalus - No Escape was
available only on the official website, and the issue was that a lot of players
were not aware of its existence. This is now fixed, the demo is available
directly on steam! Try it if you want to see the game in action before spending
your money on it ;)

Had a super-unexciting adventure yesterday with a car breakdown. It was very
close to home, but the car ceased to go into any gear, making a grinding noise
when I put it in park. This raised fears that it was the transmission, which
would be a death sentence for what is in essence a beater. It turns out to be an
axle problem instead, which should be practical to fix, but we are still waiting
to see if there are any complications that will change that outlook. The crazy
part was needing to wait a couple of hours for roadside assistance, as we were
close enough to home that I could have pushed the car home myself in the time it
took a tow truck to arrive.
