Forbes - The Catch 22 Of Video Game Journalism [Updated].
"Hype. It’s all about the hype. Many critics of game journalism have
complained that reviews are skewed by pressure from publishers or from
relationships between press and developers. I’ve been told off the record
that this pressure very much exists at many of the video game publications
out there, but each tries very diligently to maintain a barrier between
editorial and marketing. The larger the outlet, the less this sort of
pressure matters. The smaller, and the more specialized, the more this
pressure has an impact."
Steam now offers a
playable demo for Football Manager 2015, offering the chance to kick
around a sample of this association football/soccer sequel (thanks Frans). The
game is available for Windows, OS X, and Linux, but the "PC Demo" apparently
only covers Windows. The quesswork is due to lack of specifics about the demo,
so here's an overview of the game itself: Football Manager is the most
realistic, in-depth and immersive simulation of football management available,
putting you in the hot-seat of almost any club in more than 50 countries across
the world, including all of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Football Manager 2015 will allow you to live the life of a real football manager
– you decide who plays and who sits on the bench, you're in total control of
tactics, team-talks, substitutions and pitch-side instructions as you follow the
match live with the acclaimed 3D match engine.

A new
Assassin's Creed Unity Live Updates Blog is live, detailing the
action as Ubisoft scrambles to put the coat of polish on Assassin's Creed Unity
that few will argue should have come before the release of the stealth/action
sequel (thanks
Eurogamer.net). Conscious of the unhappiness over problems with the game,
they are making an unusual move of sharing their progress on fixing things.
Here's word: In this blog post, we wanted to touch on the fixes to the
game that we’re working on right now.
First, as a quick reminder, a Day 1 update has already been released which fixes
a number of issues. Make sure your console or PC is connected to the internet to
benefit from the update’s fixes.
We are currently working on our next update that will help address some of the
specific issues some players are having, including:
- Arno falling through the ground.
- Game crashing when joining a co-op session.
- Arno getting caught inside of hay carts.
- Delay in reaching the main menu screen at game
start.
In addition, we are already looking into many of the other issues you’ve told
us about and we have more updates planned. This list doesn’t capture everything,
but here are the most widely-reported problems we’ve heard about from you:
- Frame rate issues.
- Graphical and collision issues.
- Matchmaking co-op issues.
- Helix Credits issues.
We will be providing additional details in the coming days, so check back for
updates. In the meantime, please continue to send us your feedback, and leave a
comment if you have any questions for us.

Ars Technica - Breaking the lock- Why all game content should be unlocked
from the outset.
The idea of locked content, which has to be "unlocked" through some sort
of in-game achievement, is a peculiarity that games share with no other mass
consumer art form. Books don't require you to read the prologue and author's
note before diving in to Chapter 1. DVDs don't confirm that you fully
comprehended the first act before letting you jump to your favorite scene in
Act 2 (or make you suffer through the bad episodes of a TV show just to
watch the good ones). Music albums don't require that you listen to songs in
a certain order without the ability to skip around at will.
Forbes - Congratulations Ubisoft, You're The New EA. Thanks nin.
" On November 13, Felix
Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence. That request came
from his wife. Deep down, he knew she was right, but he also knew that some day
he would return to her. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his
friend, Oscar Madison. Several years earlier, Madison's wife had thrown HIM out,
requesting that HE never return. Can two divorced men share an apartment without
driving each other crazy?" Happy birthday Odd Couple executive producer
