Battle.net announces StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, a reminder
that StarCraft II is a three-part release in case we've forgotten in the
four-plus years since the release of the first part of the real-time strategy
sequel. This still does not carry a release date, but the
Legacy of the
Void website says it is "coming soon" to Windows and OS X, offering
screenshots and videos in the meantime, along with sign ups to participate in
beta testing. Here's word: You are Hierarch Artanis, leader of the mighty
protoss race. Years ago, your homeworld of Aiur fell to the merciless zerg
Swarm. Now, at long last, you have raised a powerful fleet of warships known as
the Golden Armada, and are poised to reclaim your world. But an ancient evil—Amon—threatens
this destiny and the fate of the entire galaxy. Only you can reunite the protoss
factions and defeat the coming darkness before it consumes all life in the
sector.
Blizzard Entertainment announces a new Goblins vs Gnomes expansion that's
coming next month to Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, bringing more than 120 new
cards to the game. Here's the deal: Goblins vs Gnomes immerses
Hearthstone players in an epic rivalry between goblin engineers and their
gnomish counterparts. Though wildly brilliant, these pint-size tinkerers don’t
always have the upper hand on the mechanical contraptions they create, and the
results can be wonderfully unpredictable. The new cards coming in the expansion
are filled with wild and wacky inventions as well as some faces that will be
familiar to World of Warcraft® and Hearthstone players.
“Goblins vs Gnomes is going to turn Hearthstone on its head,” said Mike
Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “It introduces a ton of
new cards with all-new options for decks and strategies, and we can’t wait to
see all the crazy combinations players come up with.”
Coming this December to PC and iPad®, Goblins vs Gnomes card packs will be
winnable in the game’s Arena mode and purchasable with in-game gold or
real-money at the same price as standard card packs. Specific details on launch
timing will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Blizzard has opened up BlizzCon 2014 with
the announcement of Overwatch, a "supercharged team-based shooter" which will
begin beta testing next year (the trademark for this was discovered
in April). Signups for the beta are
underway right now on the brand-new
Overwatch website where they offer a
cinematic trailer and
a gameplay trailer.
Here's more: The action of Overwatch takes place in a technologically
advanced, highly stylized future earth. In a time of global crisis, an
international task force of soldiers, scientists, adventurers, and oddities
known as Overwatch had come together to restore peace to a war-torn world. After
many years, the group’s influence waned, and it was eventually disbanded.
Overwatch might be gone now . . . but the world still needs heroes.
With an emphasis on accessibility and pure fun, Overwatch brings Blizzard’s
signature easy-to-learn, hard-to-master gameplay to the FPS genre. Harnessing
the power of their hero of choice, players will join forces in teams of six and
battle each other across a range of futuristic global locations, from the
hologram-lit streets of London to a bazaar in the shadows of a high-tech
Egyptian pyramid. Every battlefield is iconic and built to highlight each
character’s unique abilities, and fights can shift from streets to rooftops to
open skies within the span of a breath.
“Overwatch is our take on a vibrant, near-future universe with amped-up
characters and action-packed team-based gameplay,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and
cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With every new Blizzard game, we look at
our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things. Our goal with
Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS experience that’s more accessible to a
much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans
love.” Continue here to read the full story.
Frontier Developments announces December 16th is the official release date for
Elite: Dangerous, the long-awaited upcoming continuation of the seminal
space combat series. The game is currently available
for
preorder as a special Mercenary Edition, and for those who still want
in on the beta, this can be had for a premium over the cost of the Mercenary
Edition. Here's a bit on the game: Starting with a few credits and a basic
starship, carve your own path through the richest, largest gaming sandbox ever
created, set against a backdrop of raw anarchy, galactic powerplays and
intrigue. Do whatever it takes to upgrade your ship’s hull, engines, weapons,
defences, cargo hold; even the ship itself, constantly improve your capabilities
and influence on your journey towards the most coveted rank in the history of
gaming - ‘Elite’.
Fight, trade, hunt your way across a giant galaxy of 100 billion star systems,
starting with a basic starship and a few credits. You can make money from
trading goods between the many star systems, by destroying pirate ships (and
collecting bounty), or even by attacking traders and collecting their cargo
(which in turn will get a bounty on your head!). There are missions too, and
exploration. Most people will do some combination of these things. Upgrade your
ship and specialise in one activity - have a trader with a huge cargo bay, or
use the space for weapons and manoeuvrability.
Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg has taken
to Twitter to respond to concerns
that Just Cause 3 will include microtransactions based on
leaked
screenshots from the open-world action sequel (thanks
GameSpot). A
tweet from
yesterday explains they only have one free-to-play game: "We currently have
ONE F2P game and it's been out since 2009. I hope that helps you guys getting
some sleep. Doesn't change my opinion though." What opinion remains unchanged is
not clear, nor is it clear why he thinks this should be reassuring since he does
not actually say anything specific, but his
following
tweet just drops the mic and walks off the stage: "Thank you everyone for
your patience. Enjoy the silence for a couple of days now. You have nothing to
worry about. Promise. :)"
Following the disappearance of Ubisoft's upcoming games from Steam in the U.K.
reported yesterday, the publisher's upcoming titles have now
been removed from Steam in North America, as well, so they no longer offer
Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, or The Crew. This seems
like it may just be an attempt to
create more interest in their own digital distributor based on Ubisoft UK's
statement on the topic. "We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s
Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the
UK," Ubisoft explains to
PCGamesN. "In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game
digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other
digital distributors." Thanks nin via

Paradox Interactive now offers Haunted Fall, a new expansion for
Knights of Pen and Paper,
their tabletop-inspired retro RPG. The add-on is available from various digital
distributors, and you can take a look at what it offers
in this new trailer.
The description explains how whatever Halloween theme this features should still
be considered timely: Paradox, while announcing this update with a
perfectly straight face, insisted that every day of the year (not just
Halloween) is a good time for ghosts, and reminded the world that there's
another pumpkin-related holiday right around the corner. Haunted Fall brings
enough content to Knights of Pen & Paper to overload a festive candy bucket,
including new monsters, items, areas, skills, and jokes.
To continue to appreciate this year's Halloween, which of course is still
completely relevant and has by no means passed by already, players can enjoy
this trailer while overindulging in cheap, discounted candy:
New to the seasonally appropriate expansion, players can now adventure as the
new Witch class, a supportive sorceress who can heal party members, weaken foes,
and cackle with the best of them. The new adventure also introduces new
dungeons, including a terrifying Corn Field Maze, and the Abandoned Dwarven Mall
– where the prices are as low as the window display heights. The expansion also
includes lots of new items, monsters, NPCs, and meta-gaming humor. Continue here to read the full story.
ATLUS reveals another delay to Citizens of Earth, announcing the
retro-styled role-playing game is now due on January 20th, after last being
expected this month following another one month delay
announced over the summer. Here's word
on the setback to the game which fulfils every child's dream of being vice
president: People love the new Vice President of the World, but he won't
be taking office until Jan. 20, 2015. The retro-inspired RPG from Atlus U.S.A.,
Inc. and Eden Industries will be releasing in early 2015 for the PC, PlayStation
4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The Vice President of the World
would like to strongly denounce the nefarious political forces that are
preventing him from taking office in the originally planned month of November,
while simultaneously applauding the voters and party constituencies who have
supported him and his $14.99/€11.99 political pric...er, platform. See you all
in 2015!
Citizens of Earth pits players as the second-highest-paid bureaucrat in the
land. The game begins just after winning a long, drawn-out candidacy, and the VP
returns to his hometown for some taxpayer-funded rest and relaxation. But after
just one night passes, the VP awakens to find the world gone berserk! As elected
official he has two responsibilities: investigate what's caused people to go
crazy... and delegate as much of the dirty work as possible. Citizens of Earth
has 40 wacky citizens the VP can recruit to form a party and send into battle in
his place.
Citizens of Earth will be available for $14.99/€11.99 in North America and
Europe beginning on Jan. 20, 2015 as a download-only title for the PS4, PS Vita,
3DS, Wii U and PC. Developed by Eden Industries and published by ATLUS, check
out the official website for more information:

Went to see a friend perform in a small independent play last night, an
experimental noir retelling of Oedipus Rex, which was weird and interesting.
Obviously this was in an intimate setting, with an audience of about 25. So how
crazy is this. Someone got audible notifications from their mobile phone no
fewer than three times during the performance. I don't understand how this
happens so often in larger theaters, but in this setting it was impossible to
fathom how this could happen more than once. People, am I right?
