Devolver Digital announces a December 11th release date for The Talos
Principle for Windows, OS X, and Linux, saying the PS4 and Android editions
of this "mystical metaphysical parable" will follow in early 2015. They say
preorders will commence later today
on Steam, and will carry
a 10% discount and will also include a free copy of Serious Sam 3: BFE, which
will be giftable for those who already own a copy. Here's the quick pitch on The
Talos Principle: In The Talos Principle, players assume the role of a
sentient artificial intelligence placed within a simulation of humanity’s
greatest ruins and linked together through an arcane cathedral. Players are
tasked with solving a series of increasingly complex puzzles woven into a
metaphysical parable about intelligence and meaning in an inevitably doomed
world.
Ubisoft announces the participation of Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Cliff
Martinez in creation of the soundtrack for Far Cry 4, the first-person
shooter sequel. Word is the former Red Hot Chili Pepper and film soundtrack
composer will write the music in the game: Today, Ubisoft® announces that
it partnered with film composer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Cliff Martinez
to compose the original game soundtrack for its upcoming open-world,
first-person shooter Far Cry 4, the much-anticipated sequel to the #1 rated
shooter of 2012.* Cliff has a background in music as a former member of the
award-winning rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers and has composed scores for films
including “Traffic,” “Drive” and “Spring Breakers.”
Working with Ubisoft Montreal’s Far Cry 4’s Music Designer Jerome Angelot, Music
Supervisor Simon Landry and Audio Director Tony Gronick, Cliff created original
music specifically for Far Cry 4’s gameplay and helped bring to life the
gorgeous, yet ruthless environment and the unforgettable characters found in the
game.
“Bringing Cliff on board was a no-brainer. Collaborating with him was a dream.
He has the remarkable ability to portray compelling emotions and elevate the
mundane into extraordinary with his musical talent,” said Tony Gronick, Audio
Director for Far Cry 4, Ubisoft. “Cliff delivered everything I hoped for. I’m so
proud of the music in Far Cry 4 and am thankful for the opportunity to work with
him.”
“It was an honor to be asked to write the music for the Far Cry 4 game as my
first full-length video game soundtrack,” said Cliff Martinez. “It was exciting
for me to be asked to take my usual minimalistic cinematic approach to the
immersive game world. Any game where you can ride on a rampaging elephant is a
project you can't turn down!”

Activation announces the release of the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Day Zero Edition, a first version of the shooter sequel that has an
ephemeral 24 hour shelf life. This allows players to get into the military
shooter sequel and interact with a virtual Kevin Spacey one day before owners of
lowly not-Day Zero editions, but that's not all: "In addition to up to 24 hours
of early access, the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Day Zero Edition also gives
players access to two custom in-game weapons, the AK-12G assault rifle and
Crossbow-B2, a full day of double XP on November 3, and access to the Advanced
Arsenal. The Advanced Arsenal consists of an in-game custom Bullet Brass
exoskeleton and in-game custom EM1 Quantum weapon." Developer Sledgehammer Games refers to their new release as "the most
ambitious project of our careers" and Glen Schofield says calling it "a passion
project is an understatement." Here's more: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
also drops players into an adrenaline-filled multiplayer experience, allowing
fans to take the exoskeleton and its array of special abilities online. A first
for the franchise, the power of the exoskeleton introduces all-new ways to
maneuver combat situations on the ground and in the air, alongside an arsenal of
futuristic weapon technology that affords players more ways to take opponents
on, all while maintaining the signature breakneck Call of Duty multiplayer feel.
Fans have more options than ever when customizing their multiplayer soldier with
the new Create-an-Operator system, featuring gear and appearance personalization
from head to toe. Players and their tailor-made advanced soldiers will benefit
from the all-new Supply Drop system, unlocking weapons, gear and cosmetic items
through extended play. With 13 included maps out of the box and several new
modes, Advanced Warfare is the complete multiplayer package.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare also debuts Exo-Survival, a 1-4-player, new
cooperative experience. The new mode is a frenetic, cooperative battle to fight
off waves of unrelenting exoskeleton-suited enemies in a struggle to stay alive.
Players can upgrade their weapons, exo abilities, scorestreaks, perks and more
as they try to survive. Communication, teamwork and positioning are crucial
components for a successful strategy to handle the Exo-Survival swarm.

Things are operating properly here in the BlueTower today, which apparently
involves some luck, as high winds over the weekend have left a lot folks in the
area without electricity here in the land of overhead power lines. The wind
really was indeed pretty dramatic... and knowing it was even worse in New
England yesterday was enough to switch my pick away from the Broncos in their
game against the Patriots, so the wind was so heavy here, it helped pick the
outcome of a game
played more than 200 miles away.
