X-Wing & TIE Fighter on GOG.com?

A timer on GOG.com is counting down the seconds until 9:00 10:00 am tomorrow morning, saying a new game publisher will be joining their DRM-free marketplace at that time. This thread on their forums has speculation that this will be LucasArts, though the thread has been purged of all evidence supporting the theory. Running with that ball is Kotaku where they say enhanced versions of X-Wing and TIE Fighter are part of this, reporting versions of the beloved space combat games for updated for modern systems are coming. Word is that other LucasArts games are coming to GOG.com as well. Thanks nin.

PC Valkyria Chronicles Plans?

European ratings agency PEGI now offers ratings for a PC edition of Valkyria Chronicles, suggesting a PC edition of the console strategy game is in the works. According to their rating: "The content of this game is suitable for persons aged 16 years and over only. It contains: Realistic looking violence." Though this looks pretty concrete, there is an oddity in that they say this was released almost two weeks ago, which obviously didn't actually happen. Thanks All Games Beta.

Dungeon of the Endless has emerged from early access and is now available as a full release on Steam for Windows, Linux, and OS X. "For nearly a year we have been listening to our community’s feedback on Steam and the relationship of creative support has been fascinating, challenging, and enlightening. The release is just a new milestone in this process," said Romain de Waubert de Genlis, Creative Director at Amplitude Studios. "Dungeon is a totally different game for us, one that defies the definition of a standard rogue-like, and to a certain extent, categorization altogether. It’s equal parts rogue-like, RPG, tower-defense, and strategy game." More of what this is about is shown off in this launch trailer and outlined in this description:

Dungeon of the Endless is a Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense game, in which the player and their team of heroes must protect the generator of their crashed ship while exploring an ever-expanding dungeon, all while facing waves of monsters and special events as they try to find their way out...

Evolve Alpha Details

This post on the Evolve website has PC specs for the planned alpha testing of Evolve, Turtle Rock's upcoming shooter, noting that these do not apply to the game itself, saying: "One thing to bear in mind: These are NOT the final system specs for when the game launches. What you’re seeing here are the current minimum and recommended spec levels for the Big Alpha build of the game. There is still lots of optimizing to be done before Evolve ships in February." They also offer a preview of the game's Progression System as well as a FAQ on the alpha discussing how to try and get invited and what to expect from the testing. Thanks GameSpot.

U.K. Sales Charts

GfK Chart-Track offers their usual accounting of game sales in the U.K. for the previous week. The list of the 30 bestselling PC games for the week ending October 25th shows Civilization: Beyond Earth debuting at number one, knocking The Evil Within down to the fourth spot. On the all platforms chart the new Civ game checks in at number 18 while FIFA 15 retains the top spot. Here's their summary of the week's activity:

‘FIFA 15’ (-7%) holds on to No1 for a 5th consecutive week, the most of any title so far this year.

EA titles have been at No1 for 18 out of the 43 weeks so far in 2014, while for the whole of last year they only managed a total of 10 weeks. Sales of ‘Minecraft: Playstation Edition’ jump an impressive 82%, boosted by strong sales of the PS4 version, pushing it from No9 to No2. As a result, ‘The Evil Within’ (-64%) slips one place to No3, ahead of ‘Destiny’ which moves up 3 places to No4, sales only down by 9%. ‘Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor’ (-30%) drops one place to No5 ahead of ‘Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!’ which suffers a 62% fall in sales after its second week on release.

There are four new Top 40 titles this week, but only one makes the Top 10; Nintendo’s Wii U exclusive ‘Bayonetta 2’, debuting at No7. The latest in 2K Games and Firaxis’ pioneering PC gaming series ‘Civilization: Beyond Earth’ is the next highest new entry at No18, one spot ahead of another newcomer, Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2015’ which was released across 6 formats with the original Wii version taking a 55% share. Sony’s flagship music title can’t top Ubisoft’s latest dancing one, with ‘Singstar: Ultimate Party’ making an appearance on PS4 and PS3 at No32.

Out of the Blue

The finale of Boardwalk Empire brings mixed feelings, as the series was great throughout, and the final season took it to a new level with its exploration of Nucky's past, so it's sad to see it go. But I think they hit the pacing right on the head with a five-season run where they were never treading water and always pushing things forward. This kept things fresh and compelling to the very end, so more may not have been better, though I would have preferred a full 12 episode final season. The poignant finale was not perfect, but it was filled with greatness, and for me, the series easily lands in a pantheon of the finest television shows of all time.
