AMD now offers a new
Catalyst version 14.9.2 Windows beta driver for AMD/ATI graphics cards, indicating
this is recommended to play
Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, the
just-released strategy sequel (thanks
AnandTech). Word is: "This driver enables AMD Radeon™ GPUs with the Graphics
Core Next architecture to take advantage of the ultra-efficient Mantle API
support featured in Sid Meier's Civilization®: Beyond Earth™!" That said, this
is still a beta, and are explicitly offered "as is."
This post announces the release of
Ziggurat
on Steam,
a dungeon-crawling first-person shooter that's now officially out of early
access and available for Windows, OS X, and Linux (if the name is somewhat
familiar, you are probably
a
historian or an
old school QUAKE player). Here's the news:
Ziggurat has finished its
Early Access period and can be purchased at a discounted price for the next
week.
It's also available on the Humble Store, in case you prefer it that way.
We're working into giving players who purchased the game in Early Access a gift
for your support, in the form of a free game.
Don't forget to comment on the forums your impressions, as we plan on adding
more content and updates to the game in the near future :)
Steam now offers a
playable demo for
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary
Edition, the recently released remake of Jane Jensen's classic adventure
game (thanks Frans). Demo releases on Steam traditionally come with no details,
and this one is no exception, so here's the overview of the entire game:
Experience
one of adventure gaming’s most stunning masterpieces all over again in this
blockbuster retelling of the award-winning 1993 murder-mystery, which adds
all-new puzzles, scenes, and HD graphics!
Blending the best of yesterday and today, it re-imagines the 1993 original,
voted one of the greatest games of all time, for an entirely new generation of
fans. As struggling author and bookstore owner Gabriel Knight, players will
investigate a series of savage ritual killings in New Orleans and their
connection to voodoo’s sinister mysteries.
A
Steam Greenlight campaign is now underway for
Candlelight, a
puzzle/platformer from Pixel Maverick Games. To help gamers decide whether to
throw their support behind this project they have also released a
playable demo
which uses the Unity web player as well as
a new video showing
off gameplay. Word is: "After a mysterious force extinguishes all light, a lone surviving
candle sets out on a most important adventure to bring light back to the land.
Candlelight is a 2D platform/puzzle game that puts you in control of the last
source of light in the land... a lone, scared, but brave candle. Guide the last
surviving candle on a journey to restore light in a land that is filled with
many natural and unnatural dangers."

This trailer shows
off
Mythos: The Beginning, an upcoming survival/horror game with a
Lovecraftian 1930s pulp setting. Flagship Studios was working on an MMOG named
Mythos when they closed, which lead to Runic's Torchlight series as well as a
game called Mythos released by Korean publisher HanbitSoft, but this seems to
have no association with that property, and at this time there's no sign of a
dispute over the title. They announce the game is now available, but they are a
bit ahead of themselves, as
Steam indicates this will be released on Monday. Here's word:
Mythos:
The Beginning is a survival horror/adventure role playing game based on the
pulp-horror and monster movies of the 1930s. Set in London in 1934, Mythos tasks
you with creating your own paranormal investigator from scratch and guiding them
through a frightening exploration of the infamous Harborough Asylum. Three young
university students have vanished while attempting to conduct a scientific
survey of this dreaded place, and it's up to you to find them! Throughout the
night you'll discover that Harborough Asylum's reputation is more than an urban
legend, and you'll have to fight for your life against otherworldly Lovecraftian
foes.

It's pretty nice around here after a cold rainy week. With winter on the way I
definitely want to enjoy some of this, and the flag will remain flying high over
Manstovia for another weekend at the very least.
