2K Games announces the release of Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth,
a new sci-fi installment in the turn-based strategy series. Here's word on the
game: 2K and Firaxis Games today announced the award-winning* Sid Meier’s
Civilization®: Beyond Earth™ is available now worldwide for Windows PC. In
Civilization: Beyond Earth players lead an expedition from Earth to a new
frontier, enabling them to explore and successfully colonize an alien planet.
The game’s storyline ventures into uncharted territory for the franchise as the
game propels the evolution of human civilization into the future. Civilization:
Beyond Earth will also be available for players on Mac and Linux by Aspyr Media
this holiday season.
“The game challenges players to make interesting and fun decisions bringing
together future science, technologies and ideologies as you explore mankind’s
future on an alien planet.”
“Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction themed entry to the
critically-acclaimed Civilization series,” said Christoph Hartmann, President of
2K. “Civilization: Beyond Earth showcases Firaxis Games’ commitment to creating
high quality strategy games, and challenges players to colonize an alien planet
through an intellectually challenging and visually appealing gaming experience.”
“Unlike its predecessors, players are no longer bound by historical context in
Civilization: Beyond Earth,” said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at
Firaxis Games. “The game challenges players to make interesting and fun
decisions bringing together future science, technologies and ideologies as you
explore mankind’s future on an alien planet.”
In Civilization: Beyond Earth players lead factions divided by contrasting
cultures and philosophies, while simultaneously advancing their own leaders,
cities and units to reflect their personal choices and style of play. Through an
array of new gameplay systems, including nonlinear technological progression and
a new virtues tree, there are countless opportunities for players to change the
very identity of their faction and the world around them.
An
interview with developer Red Barrels on Bloody Disgusting reveals
development of Outlast 2, a sequel to their survival/horror game (thanks
CVG). Part of the conversation covers how the game's success came after the
console ports were released, but it's not stated whether this means they are
skipping the PC this time around. Here's the skinny: It’s important for us
to be passionate about whatever we’re working on, because we believe it’s the
only way to achieve quality.
After shipping the XB1 version of Outlast, we took some time to analyze our
situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us.
So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.
The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same
universe as Outlast, but it will have different characters and a different
setting. We might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have
new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up
something special.
We’re still a small indie studio (12 people), so we’ll need a little bit of time
to ship our next game, but hopefully it will be worth it.
Codemasters announces Toybox Turbos, a miniature car racing simulation coming to
Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on November 12th. There's a
Super Awesome Announce
Trailer on the game's official
website showing what to expect. Here's the scoop: Featuring gameplay
that reflects Codemasters’ fondly remembered miniature racing titles of the
‘90s, Toybox Turbos delivers a pick-up-and-play arcade racing extravaganza as
gamers take a nostalgic tour of 18 obstacle and short-cut filled circuits
inspired by childhood locations. Players will speed past spilt sticky jam on the
kitchen table, dodge flaming Bunsen burners as they take their opponents back to
school and zip past the runaway train in races around a railway set and more.
Gamers can see Toybox Turbos in action in a new gameplay video which is now
playing at www.toyboxturbos.com.
Bursting with classic retro racing fun, Toybox Turbos includes four-player local
and online multiplayer options, perfect for turning friends into foes with
one-more-go gaming sessions that race into the night. Whether playing locally or
online, or with a mix, Toybox Turbos brings alive the glory days of multiplayer
score-settling competition with rapid-fire rounds designed for all-action
racing.
Toybox Turbos features 35 vehicles to collect and customise, ranging from sports
cars and dragsters to emergency vehicles, taxis, ice cream vans, construction
vehicles, milk float, moon buggies and more! Each can be raced in six
super-charged game modes; players sprint for the line in Classic Races, set
their best time in Time Trial, pass as many turbocharged toys as possible in
Overtake, avoid getting wiped out by the tide in Escape, beat the clock in
Countdown and take down bosses in Elimination mode. To gain the advantage,
gamers can collect and use a range of power-ups spread liberally around each
circuit, including, but not limited to, machine guns, mines, electronic pulses
and, of course, giant hammers! Continue here to read the full story.

My problem installing the new drivers for my video card worked out easily
enough, as in my next attempt to get them going I chose the clean install option,
which took care of things nicely. I don't really have any settings I'm attached
to, so maybe I'll just always choose that option going forward.
Anyway, as you well know driver issues can be nightmarish, so I'm extremely
happy it didn't turn out to be one of those situations.
