Today's (presumably intentionally) controversial game news is the release of
Fist of Jesus on Steam
for Windows, OS X, and Linux, a beat-em-up based on a short film of the same
name. Here's a description of the game, which we're pretty sure is 100%
historically accurate: Fist of Jesus is a hilarious gore beat’em up
classic style arcade game with RPG depth.
Life of Brian meets gore and humor, in the game based on the epic award-winner
short-film Fist of Jesus.
Fist of Jesus tells the adventures of Jesus and Judas, where the world is now
full of Zombies caused by Lazarus’ resurrection. Cowboys, the Roman Army,
Mythological Creatures and Steampunk technology in the 80's style, all packed
with lots of fun.
Slightly Mad Studios and BANDAI NAMCO announce a new March 17th release date for
Project CARS for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This represents a
delay for the racing game, which they admit is as much to avoid competing with a
bunch of higher-profile releases as it is to add more polish to the game. "Our
goal has always been to deliver a landmark title that encompasses the wishes and
desires of racing fans from all around the world; something with features and
content powered by the community that provide a truly unforgettable and
pioneering experience," said Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios.
"Whilst a tough decision to make, the change in release date allows the game the
greatest chance of success and visibility, and the opportunity to polish the
game even further to the high standards that both ourselves and our community
demand and expect. We’re eager for you all to see what we’ve been working on in
just a few months." Here's more: Slightly Mad Studios and BANDAI NAMCO
Games America Inc. today announced they will be moving the release of Project
CARS for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC to March 17, 2015.
The move positions the title away from the competitive holiday scene dominated
by household names while affording the team at Slightly Mad Studios additional
time to extend and polish their ground-breaking and accomplished next-gen racing
experience that’s been created alongside a community of over 85,000 racing fans
and real-life professional drivers.
Some aspects of Battlefield Hardline are being changed based on feedback
from beta testers, DICE's Steve Papoutsis
tells VG247 in a discussion of plans for the police-themed shooter. Here's
his outline of major alterations: There’s a handful that really stand
out. The first one is something the community asked for, and that’s having
faction-specific weapons. In the beta everyone used all the same weapons. We
wondered if people would like it if they were invested in their P90, but when
they were on the other faction they couldn’t use it? Previous Battlefield games
have had faction-specific weapons. After the feedback from the beta we’ve
decided to make them faction-specific. There’s some weapons you’ll only get when
you’re a criminal and vice-versa. It’s an easy one but it was surprising to us.
The other big change is more around explosives and some of the heavy duty
weapons. Obviously with Battlefield you have this really solid foundation of
rock, paper, scissors gameplay. The heavy weapons counter the vehicles, etc.
There’s a great balance that the team has created over the years. We wanted to
include RPGs and mines – and we did – but people felt that it took them out of
the fiction a little bit; that you could just load up a character and equip an
RPG. So that wasn’t an easy thing to get rid of because it’s part of the
balance.
The design team came up with a cool ideas based on that feedback. One is to have
some of those more powerful weapons be pick-ups so it creates a secondary
objective. Some of the modes, like in Hotwire, the RPG cache is one of the
objectives. If you control that cache your team has access to the RPG. And that
creates more interesting gameplay. We also came up with the notion of ‘junk in
the trunk’ – what if we allowed players to equip special items to their vehicle
instead of their inventory loadout. It goes back to movies where bad guys pop
open the trunk to grab something big. When you play the game, if you set up your
vehicle loadout to have a specific weapon in the trunk and you control the
vehicle you can use that item. So now you want to get a vehicle to get access to
a specific weapon, which also fits the fiction better.
Matrix Games now offers Pike & Shot, a new historical strategy game
covering three major European conflicts, The Great Italian Wars, The Thirty
Years' War, and The English Civil Wars. The
game's official product
section has more details as well as links to purchase the game, which
carries a 10% launch discount for the coming week. For a look at the game, you
can check out a live presentation recorded a couple of weeks ago
on their Twitch channel.
Here's word: In the age of Pike and Shot, mighty struggles erupted across
Europe for religious, political or dynastic causes. The greatest powers of that
period were regularly involved in conflicts and struggles to increase their
dominance over the continent. Some countries have also to deal with inner
tensions and are torn apart between factions. War is in the air. But war has
changed. Due to the development of new technologies, traditional medieval
tactics have been substituted with a totally different approach to effectively
utilise the new formations and weapons.
In these troubled times musketeers “gave fire” in a duel to the death, pikemen
held stolidly against enemy assaults, and cavalry charged to glory or defeat.
Players can march in the footsteps of the great leaders of The Thirty Years War,
Italian Wars and the English Civil War and refight some of the greatest battles
of the Renaissance. With its 30 full-sized historical battles, its random map
and scenario generator, its easy-to-use PBEM++ multiplayer system and its
gameplay simulating accurately the tactics of the period, Pike & Shot will
thrill any history buff and fans of tactical challenges!

Kickstarter, saying: "Hey all, I'll keep the post short because you'll hear
me talking plenty more in the video! I've embedded it below, but make sure to
watch in HD so that the art and text aren't garbled by whatever
Kickstarter/YouTube defaults to." Thanks Ainamacar. Continue here to read the full story.

Very sad to hear
the Fantastic Four comic is being cancelled (thanks Ant), though that
would seem less ridiculous to say if I actually owned an issue that hadn't long
ago yellowed with age. But this still makes the comic fan in me unhappy, as while
Spider-Man was always my favorite, I always felt the FF was the most important
(for lack of a better word) comic, and was always Marvel's main artery to the
cool cosmic encounter side of their universe. If I get hold of whoever made this
decision it's clobbern' time!
