The Rebel Galaxy website now
announces
Rebel Galaxy, a "swashbuckling space adventure" coming to Windows and a
console or two next year from
Double Damage
Games, the startup from Runic Games ( Torchlight) cofounders Travis
Baldree and Erich Schaefer, who also have Diablo I & II and Hellgate:
London on their resumes. Here's the
announcement trailer
and word: Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with
action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the
outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.
As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates,
explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids,
and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty
space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger
and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a
variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and
secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure,
exploration, and combat.
The edge of the universe is a pretty dangerous place, so watch your back.
Coming to Steam, PS4 and (maybe) XBox One in 2015. Continue here to read the full story.
The Charlemagne expansion for Crusader Kings II is now available
worldwide for Windows, OS X, and Linux, offering additional content for Paradox
Interactive's strategy sequel. This
brief trailer
celebrates the news, and word is the base game is currently on sale through most
digital outlets. Here's the pitch: As usual, the expansion will be
accompanied by a host of free changes to the core Crusader Kings II experience,
available in a major update that can be downloaded today. This free content
includes a major overhaul to the nomadic tribes of Europe – now they are even
more distinct from their neighbors hiding behind castle walls.
"Charlemagne" will introduce Crusader Kings II players to the man who became the
“Father of Europe,” uniting much of the continent for the first time since the
since the fall of Rome and founding the Holy Roman Empire. Including the ability
to start a dynasty as far back as 769 AD, the expansion will include a series of
story events surrounding the rise of Charlemagne. The expansion also features
game options to allow players to chart their own places in history – such as a
new in-game “Chronicle” that highlights a dynasty’s conquests, marriages, and
labors for the faith.
A new Drag Pack expansion is available today in the Americas for GRID Autosport, offering the chance to test your driving skill a quarter mile at a
time in Codemasters' racing game, no high heels required. Here's
a trailer showing off
the pack, and here's a quick rundown, drag race style: The Drag Pack features three custom drag strips at the Hockenheimring, the
Autosport Raceway and Detroit, each featuring routes of up to a mile. Players
will also receive three blisteringly fast drag cars to master, nine new Single
Player Championships (including practice, qualifying and knockout races) and an
online multiplayer mode. In addition to racing the new cars in the pack – a Hot
Rod and two Funny Cars which will reach speeds of over 300 m.p.h. - players can
also race the vast majority of the cars featured in GRID Autosport, including
the game’s Hypercars and Supercars.
Each vehicle that takes part in the Drag Racing mode can be custom tuned
prior to the race, for example, gear ratios can be tweaked for optimal
acceleration or a higher top speed. Gamers then complete an authentic staging
process as they go head-to-head with an opponent. Fast reactions are critical to
get the best possible start. Once underway, players must then time their gear
changes carefully to achieve peak acceleration. In addition to timing gear
changes, players will also have to contend with torque steer, which requires
counter steering to correct it. Each race is a tense and thrilling contest where
timing, technique and nerves of steel are rewarded. Continue here to read the full story.
UbiBlog
provides a lesson on how to "Survive Kyrat" in a
new trailer from
Far Cry 4, their first-person shooter sequel. Word is: "Step inside the vast
world of Far Cry 4 where you’ll witness majestic snow-capped mountains and
serene waters. But, behind the beautiful landscape, unforeseen danger is
waiting. Take in the destruction, chaos and violence in this latest trailer and
experience the many perils you’ll need to overcome to survive in Kyrat, where
every second is a story." Ubisoft also offers
a new blog post
answering the question "Why Far Cry 4 isn't just 'Far Cry 3.5'." Point five
releases aren't really a thing, and what they really explain is how they ended
up in a new setting with new features rather than exploring the same locale and
characters from Far Cry 3. Finally, a few gameplay trailers shot using the PS4
edition of the game are online, showing
co-op,
the Arena, and
the full Shangri La
mission.
A new
cinematic trailer from Dragon Age: Inquisition introduces "The Hero of Thedas" from BioWare's upcoming action/RPG sequel. They say: "Demons plague the
world and terrorize the people of Thedas. The faithful cling to their belief in
the Inquisitor, who must lead a team of legendary warriors into battle and bring
the conflict to an end before it’s too late. Every war has its heroes. It’s up
to the players to decide what kind of leader they will be." Continue here to read the full story.
A new video developer
diary features some of the folks from Obsidian and My.com outlining Orders of Aelion,
from Skyforge, "a unique gameplay system which allows players to become a powerful god"
in the upcoming MMORPG. Here's
the deal: "The developer diary describes how each immortal dweller of Aelion has
their own personal order made up of the mortals that worship them for their
deeds. Orders are not just for looks, they provide a third of a character’s
might, with characters dealing more damage the larger their order. The size of
an order, which can grow to be millions of followers large, is reflected in the
amount of statues and churches erected in a player’s honor. Some believers
called adepts will even do extraordinary deeds in the name of the player such as
curing plagues, protecting their realm during invasions by other gods or serving
as missionaries of the player’s glory in other realms." Continue here to read the full story.

GOG.com announces the Linux selection on their DRM-free marketplace now
boasts more than 100 titles, including titles never before available for the
platform, including
Baldur's Gate:
The Original Saga,
Planescape Torment,
F-117
Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0, and
Silent Service 1 + 2.
Here's word: Not even two months ago we've rolled out a feature that you,
dear GOGgers, have requested almost since day one of our service: support for
Linux games. It took us some time to do it the GOG-way, but we managed to unite
our ideals of how DRM-free gaming should be, with the idea of the truly free OS,
so passionately loved by many. We've kick-started our Linux games catalog with a
selection of 50 titles, old and new, many of them available officially for that
OS for the very first time! Doing that, we've mentioned our plans to expand this
offer to over 100 titles in the coming months. Well, the day has come. With
today's 15 additions we've passed the 100-title. And, boy, what great additions
these are!
Civil War: Robert Downey Jr. Joins ‘Captain America 3′... That sounds pretty
cool! It seems hard to avoid jumping the shark with superhero movies, but they
seem to be defying that gravity as well as anyone could hope.
