Next Car Game Renamed Wreckfest; Multiplayer Introduced

The Next Car Game blog has word from Bugbear that Next Car Game has been renamed from its uninspired working title, and is now known as Wreckfest. The news is accompanied by the release of update #6 for the early access racing game, which implements the first pass at multiplayer support. Here's an excerpt that covers each bit of news:

The name reveal is certainly not all, for Wreckfest has also evolved to include 18 player multiplayer! The players can now challenge their friends to share the most visceral demolition racing mayhem in existence! With four different game modes, Racing, Demolition Derby, and the new Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, Wreckfest’s conjunction of purity of driving and the innate beauty of twisted metal creates massive amounts of emergent glee when punishing your friends and foes alike.

We’re pushing the limits to get the number of simultaneous players to 24, but optimizing the network code will take a bit longer. Because the code is not yet optimized, remember that the speed of your ISP has a tremendous impact on how the races will run. Check the Recommended Upstream figure when you host a game, and you’ll be fine.

Alien: Isolation Trailers

The Alien: Isolation website now offers the last few trailers in the #HowWillYouSurvive series of clips to promote the survival/horror shooter, which will sneak into stores next week. The latest clips are Crowd Control, Stomp, and Creating The Egg, which thankfully deals with practical effects, rather than alien reproduction. The game is due on October 7th, and here's what SEGA wants you to know about it: "Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror game capturing the fear and tension evoked by Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic film. Players find themselves in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as an unpredictable, ruthless Xenomorph is stalking and killing deep in the shadows. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive." The Evil Within Minimum Specs

The Bethesda Blog follows up on the recent post revealing system specifications for The Evil Within, which implied it was impossible to pin down a minimum spec for the upcoming survival/horror game. Now another trip to the testing labs has finally allowed them to commit to the lowest end system they will trust to run the game. Here's word on the specs and preorders:

Minimum requirements for The Evil Within can now be found below. You won’t be experiencing the game at 1080p and you’ll likely need to turn off some features, but you will still be able to have a great experience with the game.

  • Minimum Requirements
  • OS: windows 7/8.1
  • GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1 GB VRAM card
  • CPU: i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • HDD: 50 GB

If you meet the recommended specs, you’re in for the ideal experience. The game looks amazing with full-screen anti-aliasing, full shadow quality, motion blur, tessellation, SSAO, and 1080p visuals.

PC users can pre-order The Evil Within today on Steam — where we’ve updated the game page to account for both the minimum and recommended system requirements, or your favorite digital or physical reseller.

Out of the Blue

I want to once again thank all of you who have been making their Amazon purchases though this site, allowing us to collect affiliate commissions. We just completed our first month under the program, and I have to admit this was more successful than I anticipated. Existing on display advertising alone as a smallish indie unaffiliated with any of the players in the industry has become ever-more impractical, so this is a step in the right direction of trying to ensure sustainability here. Thanks again!
