Today marks the launch of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, the new action game
set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings
trilogy, and the official
website can help find where to buy the game. Here's an official launch
trailer, and here's word on the release: Warner Bros. Interactive
Entertainment (WBIE) and Monolith Productions announce that Middle-earth: Shadow
of Mordor will be available today in stores throughout the US and Canada, on
digital console in the Americas, and on Steam worldwide. Middle-earth: Shadow of
Mordor is a third-person, open world action game that introduces players to the
next epic saga of Middle-earth as they embark on a dark journey through Mordor,
set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Featuring the
innovative Nemesis System, the game is available at retailers and via digital
download for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One all-in-one
games and entertainment system from Microsoft for the suggested retail pricing
of $59.99 and on Windows PC for $49.99.
In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor players become Talion, a Gondorian Ranger of
the Black Gate who is slain alongside his family on the night of Sauron’s return
to Mordor. Resurrected from death and inextricably linked to a Wraith Spirit,
Talion ventures on a quest of vengeance and discovery to unearth why he has been
denied the peace of death. Players uncover the mystery behind the Spirit that
compels him, discover the origins of the Rings of Power and confront their
ultimate Nemesis.
The game introduces the innovative Nemesis System, through which every enemy
encountered in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is procedurally generated and
unique to each player, from appearance, to personality type, to strengths and
weaknesses, to distinct enemy missions. Players will use Talion’s Wraith powers
to manipulate and corrupt the wills of enemy Uruks and gain power to raise their
own army in order to match Sauron’s forces on the field of battle. Continue here to read the full story.
The
World of Tanks website announces a new tank racing mode is now live
in Wargaming's free-to-play tankful MMOG. Word is: "Players around the world
will be able to race in a free custom- built M24 Chaffee Sport on a modified
version of the Port map through October 13th," though they do not specify how
the situation will change after that date. They will celebrate the news with a
livestream on Twitch today from
4:00-5:00 pm EDT where Wargaming will show off the game, answer questions, and
conduct giveaways. Here's more: The new race mode pits teams of three
against each other in mad dash to the finish line culminating in fierce battle
to capture a control point. The track itself is filled with obstacles, ramps and
explosions mixed with the onslaught of enemy fire challenging players to use
their skills to emerge victorious. The only vehicle available in Tank Rally, the
custom-built M24 Chaffee Sport tank, has been credited to all registered player
accounts for free.
Tank Rally will also offer a special in-game medal, “Racer 2014,” which is
awarded to each player on the winning team, along with a set of combat missions
allowing tankers to earn experience points and credits.
The promised "fall patch" for
Battlefield 4 is now automatically available for DICE's first-person
shooter sequel.
This lengthy forum post outlines everything the patch changes, along with an
addendum with a few additional changes specific to the Windows edition of the
game.
Congrats to the fans in Kansas City for
setting a new record for loudest stadium crowd, breaking the coveted
achievement by hitting 142.2 decibels last night. At least I guess it's coveted,
though I'm glad I wasn't there to experience it, as 142 dB is between a trillion
and a quadrillion times more powerful than the quietest sound the human ear can
detect, and more than loud enough to cause hearing damage... if you feel bad
that you missed out, you can recreate the experience by heading to the nearest
military airbase and standing nearby with no ear protection while one of the
jets takes off. Word is the Chiefs handed out 36,000 pairs of earplugs to the
game's 76,000 attendees, so apparently they only hate around half their fans.
